Open Your Hearts

  • Occupy Chicago activists are looking for help finding fellow demonstrators find a place to stay during the NATO summit, so they’re asking Chicagoans to let them occupy their houses, apartments, back yards, or churches.

    Kyle, a housing staffer with Occupy Chicago, said the group is receiving notice from Occupy supporters around the nation who need a place to stay next week through the end of the Summit.

    “National Nurses United is sending in 800 people in buses that they’re paying for,” he said. “So that right there is 800. We also have contacts with various occupations saying, ‘Oh, hey, we’re sending up 100 people to you, we’re sending 50 people to you.”

    Kyle said Occupy Chicago is seeking space for 2,000 protestors, and says they’ll even accept space donations from Republicans or political conservatives, just so the protestors can avoid sleeping in parks, and avoid being arrested by police.

Well, gee whiz, we can't let these poor people sleep in the parks just so we can hassle them at all hours of the day and night. That wouldn't be sporting. And goodness forbid that they actually come to town with money to spend for hotel rooms, food and bail money - how is Rahm going to get that $128 million that Lori Healey says is going to miraculously turn up at the museums and restaurants downtown during the summit?

How about the Multi-Purpose Room at HQ?

These people are on another planet. What the f__k kind of guilt trip are they laying down? We don't want this garbage here in the first place. They don't care about the people of this city -- why on Earth would anyone care what happens to them?

heh-heh.. not that much different than the mayors plan to have foreign journalist be put up in residents homes though -- as the media tells it "so that they can get home cooked meals"

How are the hotels and restaurants suppose to cash in on this NATO windfall if all the tourist are in residents homes sleeping and eating there?

My company is having most of us work from home and they've rented office space in the burbs for some key personnel (and if it works out, there is talk of moving out there).

We won't be dining downtown. We won't be parking downtown. We won't be taking taxis or CTA.

Where will this $128 mil come from exactly?

Is it possible that the federal government will "stimulate" the Chicago economy by simply writing a check or two?

I mean, Obama's running again. He's gotta take Chicago/Illinois. He doesn't have Joe Kennedy for a father, how else can he buy his way into the White House again?

5/07/2012 10:46:00 PM

The Mayor could pay his respects by not having a District car follow him on his morning jogs. That's what his coat holders are for. He could also show his respect by not having a District car go get his morning cup of coffee.

"Occupy Chicago is seeking space for 2,000 protestors, and says they’ll even accept space donations from Republicans or political conservatives, just so the protestors can avoid sleeping in parks, and avoid being arrested by police."

I am floored by the utter megalomania of these people. "I have a right," and that is that.

In terms of the old fable of "The Ant and the Grasshopper," these are the grasshoppers.

"They do not sow, nor do they reap...no thought of the morrow," or however that goes.

We are here, therefore we matter to you. Our concerns are your concerns. What's yours is ours. It goes without saying that you will provide for our personal needs.

It's a flash mob. They txt msg everyone in their circle, and they all show up here. As SCC said, did they txt msg a hotel reservation first?

It's groupthink -- a mass delusion. They must actually think that everybody is in the loop with them, just by some weird default.

How convenient.

How wrong.

Life is not a smartphone commercial. Remember the really dippy production, with the girl sashaying down the street with her phone as flowers exploded from the manhole covers, amusing walruses dangled from the banana trees, etc? "All we care about is talking -- talking on the phone" went the song.

This is worse than the street garbage that constantly wants fifty cents, a dollar, fifty dollars, a bus card, hand lotion, Kleenex, a cigarette, a match to light it with.

"Lemme see yo' ink pin." Sure, I'll miss my appointment and stand here for twenty minutes while you work out some he-say-she-say mess.

I am not a dispenser -- but that's how they treat you. Same thing here.

They yank at the knob, and something is supposed to come down the chute for them.

This "No human being is illegal" attitude has really spread out -- like an oil spot.

What's even more unbelievable is that we've seen these people run wild, smash up building lobbies, attack police stations, and do milions of dollars of damage all over the country.

They've been posting constant threats on police web logs -- "Let us do whatever we want or we'll sue" (!), they've sabotaged emergency vehicles, and we have seen photographic proof of a crude biological agent being manufactured here -- and it's like butter wouldn't melt in their mouths. They expect, with a straight face, to be welcomed into the homes of complete strangers.

I think not.

--5/08/2012 05:20:00 AM

They tore it down twice.

First, busloads of free white liberal labor came in from out of town -- probably from Iowa churches -- to superficially pick at the thing. Someone had their little daughter in this dangerous demolition site with a broom, like it was going to do anything.

Everybody got a warm fuzzy feeling, and went away.

Talk about busywork.

Next, the paid-for bulldozer came, and the paid workers flattened the place and scooped it into trucks, like they always do.

What a joke.

Only about $20 million away from the rev having his own personal "Community Center" to absorb still more government grants.

It's a living.

LOOK LIKE A PROTESTER -- Chicago office workers encouraged to 'dress down' during NATO summit

"Workers at some Chicago office towers are being encouraged to dress down to avoid being targeted by protesters during the meeting of world leaders May 20 and 21. Safety procedures in some high-rises include the recommendation that employees set aside suits, ties and anything with corporate logos."

"heh-heh.. not that much different than the mayors plan to have foreign journalist be put up in residents homes though -- as the media tells it 'so that they can get home cooked meals'

How are the hotels and restaurants suppose to cash in on this NATO windfall if all the tourist are in residents homes sleeping and eating there?"

Well restaurants & grocery stores may see a slight uptick in business if the subjects of Chicago have to feed these people.

But don't worry, it's not gonna cost us a dime, "directly".

Here is your "National Nurses United" -- farther left than even Obama.

Nurses Launch Protest Web Site and Twitter

“I think there is mass discontent in America,” says Rose Ann DeMoro, executive director of National Nurses United. That’s why her union is introducing ProtestInTheUSA.com, a web site and Twitter feed that would be a “clearinghouse for left politics.” DeMoro agrees with Cornel West that President Obama “has domesticated the left.”

The Racoon went down to Springfield today to voice his opinion about our underfunded pensions. This is the opening salvo to make public employees look like greedy uncaring bastards. The Racoon hooked up with Speaker Madigan. Fuckhead Madigan should be in handcuffs going off to Federal jail for his part in destroying our pensions. But he isn't being blamed for anything. Neither is the Racoon's mentor Richie Daley. That little bastard never put a dime into the pensions all the time he was mayor. So the jagoffs who created this mess will now be the ones trying to salvage it. Good luck and fuck us.

Reconcile for us the following two paragraphs from the Tribune article --

"One restaurant owner who lives in the neighborhood even suggested [Occupy] might be good for business.

"Occupy Chicago is hosting about 2,000 protestors. The group says it needs free housing for 75 percent of them."

Emanuel to state lawmakers on pension costs: 'Day of reckoning has arrived'

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-rahm-emanuel-illinois-pensions,0,6926697.story

We promised you pensions and healthcare and all kinds of things that we can't afford and it's YOUR fault.

All those things YOU have to pay for because we spent the money. Our political friends got no-bid contracts and things and we made up for city shortfalls by shortchanging the pension contributions.

Freezing pension cost of living increases is just another way to chip away at these so-called 'benefits". By the time retirement comes around they will be pretty much worthless and the next generation will point their fingers at you asking why you did not save and plan and invest for yourself..ha..

Bend over people the mayor says your day of reckoning has arrived, not the lying, thieving politicians day of reckoning but yours.

Let me tell you something. Cost of living increases in place today don't even come anywhere close to the rate of increases in healthcare cost. Everyone is already behind the eight ball.

You know, that "National Nurses United" has over 100,000 members -- and it is certain that a lot of them joined for reasons other than to be part of a "clearing house for Left politics," as one of the officials calls it.

The situation reminds me of AARP -- a lot of people joined to get the insurance, prescription coverage, etc., not because of its radical anti-gun, pro-nanny agenda.

It is sad to see how these NGOs are co-opted and steered from the top, using the money of a broad base of members at the bottom.

Yeah, it has a "chilling effect" on us 99%. Suborned, pre-empted -- Soros and friends have all the exits covered.

Example of "arrangements" from which, to say the least, we do not benefit -- Mayor Bloomberg's worldwide "financial services" octopus is cleverly building a huge data hub in Dubai to get a slice of the Islamic world's "sharia finance." Ever wondered why -- as good as Al-Jazeera news is -- I've never once heard them even use the word "Israel?"

A lot of things go on -- a lot of "accomodations" and "understandings" are reached -- out on those country club golf courses, where you and I can't hear them.

...but we can see and understand the results in our daily lives.

Oh -- speaking of "huge data hubs" -- here, the NSA busily at work in the Age Of Obama.

Surprised it's not, "for the children"!

5/08/2012 12:54:00 PM
-------------------------------

No cost of living increases for the next ten years for city pensions!!!

A lot can happen in ten years.

For example:

A cost of living increase of 7% per year for ten years will almost double your money!

Compounded interest at 7% per year.

Year / ROI

0 = $1.00
1 = $1.07
2 = $1.14
3 = $1.22
4 = $1.31
5 = $1.40
6 = $1.50
7 = $1.60
8 = $1.71
9 = $1.83
10= $1.96

So when the mayor cuts your cost of living increases for ten years it could well mean that your pension benefits will be cut in half.

And needless to say, cost of living when it comes to healthcare is soaring above any of the current COL adjustments as it is. Enjoy your retirement in poverty. Broken promises and lies. Written contracts of not. We can ignore the US constitution, the Illinois constitution. Pick and choose what laws get enforced and on who and you think that you're special and your union contract will be different.

HA.

We're all just one layoff notice away from being in the Occupy crowd.

So what ordinance is being broken?

If the beach is so crowded that you can't even move for any of those events I never seen any ordinance violations being written...is that because corporate interest are benefiting therefore public safety doesn't matter? Politicians can pick and choose and make it up as they go and if you buy into that concept wait till you see how your union contract and pension benefits get shredded..

Meanwhile down in Springfield as the lawmakers have defeat handed to them on the Chicago ease-dropping ordinance in the Fed courts. No sooner than that constitutional challenge is knocked down -- the lawmakers are now busy preparing another law to replace it regarding the public photography of law enforcement officers during their duty.

Also more gun ordinances to challenge another constitutional amendment is on it's way.

Like we have money to burn on this nonsense.

It's effing ridiculous. A busted city, a busted state and the lawmakers focus is to create non-stop court battles challenging peoples constitutional rights...using public pension fund money to pay the lawyers and the law firms to do it.

I'l never forget that hot summer morning in 1966 when we sat and looked at the front page of the newspaper and didn't know what to say.

No one around us knew what to say either.

You are disgusting -- but in a very small sort of way.

I mean, this city has its own ordinances about sanitation facilities, fire codes, occupancy limits...

5/08/2012 01:36:00 PM

----------------------

Yeah but the city leaders are saying this is the same as the Taste of Chicago, the Air and Water Show, the 4th of July fireworks show, etc...

--5/08/2012 07:40:00 PM

No, the city leaders are NOT saying that packing hundreds of people into buildings not designed or zoned for human occupancy is the same as holding large outdoor events.

"So what ordinance is being broken?"

Probably a few dozen of the sort I just described.

Duh.

Come back when you learn to A. read and B. comprehend instead of overwriting everything with your standard frantic spittle and spew.

My wife is a nurse and is also apart of that union. I was the one who informed her about her union sending nurses to NATO. She said the funny thing is that they never notified anyone or took a vote about going. This was done behind there backs ( sound familiar ). So don't go rushing to judgement about nurses. My wife has called her union to complain along with most of her coworkers. if this comment sounds like I am taking your comments personally it is because I am. Almost every nurse I have meet is 100% pro police, they know and see the shit we have to deal with. They are just as pissed off at their union as I am.

"How many billions did short shanks funnel to his pals that should have kept our fund moving forward. This is criminal and should be pursued after. All of our unions should be demanding a federal investigation, loudly demanding. The real criminals occupy city hall and the capital."

If nothing else Daley should be held civilly liable. His mismanagement of the pension funds was clearly malfeasance. His actions and their effects were certainly foreseeable by a reasonable man.

Emanuel’s “roadmap to retirement security” go even further:

A five-year increase in the retirement age — raising it to 67 for most civilian workers and to 60 for police and fire department workers. The plan also doesn’t say whether the retirement age would be raised for current employees or just new hires, or some combination.

I seen a 20's-something female who looked like she needed a bath, walking down I55 with a backpack on today. Looked like an "Occupier"/Protestor. Wondering why she was out at I55 and Harlem. In the past I have seen several in that area just sitting in the grass at the bottom of the ramp in Forest View. I wonder if they have a flop house out in this area.....
