Another Marine Unit Rescue
With boating season underway, these guys are all over the news lately (in a good way):
- Chicago police officers rescued nine people from a boat taking on water near Diversey Harbor, officials said.
Police Marine Unit officers responded to a flare from a boat about a half-mile east of Diversey Harbor at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Nine people and a dog were taken to Belmont Harbor, where they declined treatment, according to fire media.
Nice job Marine Unit. Keep up the good work.

yay!! good work guys and gals, a salute to the marine unit.
Glad everyone is ok, especially man's best friend.
Chicago needs the Marine Unit, particularly now that the Coast Guard has moved their air ops to Traverse City.
With the amount of boating traffic here, especially during the season, it'd be ludicrous to close them down.
Heard the whole thing unfold on the scanner great job by CPD!
Did the boat operator get DUI'd? Or did no one fess up as to who it was? I'm guessing the dreaded alcohol was a big reason they all declined medical attention. The best part is, no one from CPD got injured and the dog was ok. But at least their boat sank...
Usually the dog rescue would make news, the 9 people is no big deal.
Untrue CFD and Coast Guard rescued the people oh that's what CFD told the media . Great job ! Marine Unit
Thank you to all First Responders who are there when people are in trouble.
One of the news channels reported that it was the fire dept that rescued them
That's funny the News Reporter related that the CFD Scuba team rescued them. Did the FD steal CPD recognition again? Those fuckers...
Coast Guard gone,
now the mayor wants to cut back the marine unit too.
Too bad all those wealthy people voted for him. I hope they can swim
Marine unit? I thought they were cut since we have the U.S. Coast guard on the lake. Oh, and aren't flare guns illegal in Chicago?
Any word on the size of the boat? Undoubtedly alcohol and stupidity was a factor. Least the dog's alright. The dog probably was the only one with the common sense not to be out there if he had a say in the matter.
Good work on everyone involved. I was surprised that flares actually worked and no one wrote it off as dumb kids with fireworks. Kudos on the professionalism.
Fuckin CFD Lt. Rondoornobber initially says Cfd and Coast Guard rescue sinkin boat. What a stroke. Neither were anywhere near. Like CFD doesn't get enough good PR. Cfd jockeying for the big Rahm public safety plan with lies. Keep fabricating your importance. What a fuckin shame. Divide and Conquer. Picked up right were Daley left off.
The dog declined treatment ?
These guys are kicking ass and taking names!!! Goodwork
Was that in the Marin unit violent zone?
Good job guys!
Why does the Fire Dept Have a boat?
They are always last to arrive and their helicpter is the one that responsds to water rescues.
Where were the CFD heros? The certain white shirt who battered a P.O.? Prob drunk on furlo? Oh well, good work CPD.

And I suppose the City of Chicago has never done anything stupid or ludicrous.
Got a kid off a floating pier today, too. Just keeps on comin'. Yup, with the lake and the rivers, we have to have a Marine Unit.

Wow, I was the beat cop on scene and it was all CPD marine unit that did the great rescue of the over turned and sinking boat, then I go home and read the news and Fire dept is saying they rescued the folks in the boat, this is a blatant out and out lie! Fire dept was not even there's hey had fire trucks and ambulance but was all on land, how can they get away with that lie. makes me sick that they always have to be the hero and can't stand that CPD gets any good press. Fuck those guys!
This only goes to the firemen that doesn't do anything all day and not the ambulance guys the medics on the ambulance work for a living.
Seriously, are we crying over who gets the gold star on the chart? The CPD Marine Unit and CFD Air Sea Rescue/ Scuba Team both do a great job. The mix up in who did what usually stems from one of the media affairs brain surgeons giving misinformation to the press who sometimes misprint what actually occurred. Yes, the news isn't always correct believe it or not. Regardless, of who did what, it doesn't really matter except to those people who feel a need to justify their positions. The blue or light blue shirts are just doing their jobs. It's not a competition guys, blame the bosses, the media officers and the press, not the rank and file.
Way to go.
