- Dress down for the NATO protests if you work downtown?
Both protesters and a security consultant for the NATO summit are laughing off suggestions that downtown office workers dress casually to avoid becoming targets of protesters.
The idea behind the suggestion is to blend in, and not dress in standard business attire.
Then they started interviewing the Occupy protestors:
Occupy Chicago’s Rachael Perotta echoed Heintze, telling WBBM Newsradio such memos and rumors are nothing but “classic fear mongering.”
[...] “We’re not here to disrupt ordinary Chicagoans’ lives,” she said. “We’re not here to target people.”Perotta said the Occupy protesters are committed to non-violence, adding, “I think that all threats to safety during the summits are going to come from the Chicago Police Department and the hired goons that Mayor one-percent has rounded up to patrol the streets of Chicago.”

Businesses downtown are boarding up, closing, sending their workers home because of the police.

How many marches against this or that are videoed from ground level and front view to hide the fact that there are about a dozen mopes, including some old, familiar faces in the "crowd". I work in the same building as Winston Strawn (though definitely not for them) and we were told yesterday that we all are to work from home the Monday of the summit. If the most connected law firm in the city doesn't think the building safe, what does that say about the rest of the loop?

What ever happened to the nice cozy "family event" Gary Schenkle spoke of a couple of months ago? Bring your kids and grandparents down for a nice picnic on the lakefront. Notice as we get closer to the event things have changed for the worse. Fact is the Racoon knew full well what was coming. But he is a busy guy. Down in Springfield destroying what is left of our pensions, handing out contracts with his new Infrastructure Trust, and of course finding someone to lease out Midway airport. We taxpayers will be paying for this mess for years to come. Just keep that in mind when you see the Racoon hobknobing all over town with Barack, Michelle, and world leaders. Lots of free dinners I might add. What do we get? Left over bones.

Sorry this is lengthy, but I just had to share this on here: Screw those protestors. I have a crazy cousin (daughter of two doctors, & grew up very wealthy) who was all-everything in high school, but went batshit butch lesbian crazy when she left home to go to Princeton for undergrad. She now lives in a bad part of Brooklyn, NY, is an interpretive artist, and is heavily involved in the "Occupy" movement.
I live in a high rise in Streeterville just above the river and just off the Grand Ave exit from Lakeshore Drive, and my wife & I are leaving town next Thursday night until after Memorial Day, to avoid this shitstorm.
Apparently my parents told my aunt & uncle that my wife & I won't be here, bc my cousin called & begged me to let her & her dirty friends stay in our condo and use our parking garage access pass, so they can "have a free place to stay" when they come to protest.
I told her to fuck off. The reason I live in a million dollar condo is that I'm an attorney who works for a major bank in the loop, that will likely be the target of her rage. In fact, people like me are her target, yet she has no problem bitching at me to let her use my place, as well as constantly hits up me for money (her parents wised up & cut her off a few years ago - but when you're 36, you should have been cut off for at least 15 years).
Basically, how our lives have diverged since HS (we went to the same school & are the same age) is a perfect example of this movement. She was a go-getter until 18, went to an elite school, and lost her mind once out from under her parent’s thumb; I lived at home & went to community college for two years, before finishing up at Western Michigan, hardly an elite school. She bummed around the country on her parent’s dime after graduation, trying to “find herself,” I got a job, worked my ass off, then went to law school at night for five years, while still working, in order to build a future for myself.
She begs her successful parents & cousins for money, yet refuses to even consider getting a real job, instead she & her friends film themselves dancing in parks & try to sell it online as “art.” Then when this happens, my wife & I planned to get out of town to avoid the trouble, while she decides it’s a perfect chance to take a vacation – and then hits up the very person she’s so vehemently protesting against, to fund her travels & provide her & a van full of socialist fucks a free place to stay.
it is not the Occupy Protesters I am worried about, their protests usually turn into drum circles and games of hacky sack. I am worried about the usual crop of Anarchists who show up at these events and disillusioned Chicagoans just looking for an excuse to loot and riot. If these elements cause the situation to get out of hand you can bet the Occupy Protesters will get blamed, rightly or wrongly.
If their gonna blame it on the Police then lets get our reputation back and whip their asses

You seem to understand the situation.
The vast majority of the protesters are non-violent and have no interest in hurting anyone.
There are a very few who piggy back these kind of things just to see how much trouble they can cause. So far in this country, they have not managed to do much more than annoy the public at large and break a few windows. Not much different than the riots that have become almost routine after teams win some sporting event.
