Nurse Parade Rerouted

Rahm's people playing fast and loose with the protestors:
  • The city of Chicago today yanked a permit for the first demonstration planned for the weekend of the NATO summit in a dispute over where the National Nurses United can hold its rally May 18.

The organization says it has begun talks with American Civil Liberties Union lawyers about a challenge to the city’s about-face. "If the nurses are a threat to Rahm Emanuel, then heaven help the U.S.," said RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of National Nurses United.

Chicago's Department of Transportation approved the march from the Sheraton Hotel in Streeterville to Daley Plaza months ago, but on Tuesday the California-based group received word the city had changed the terms, according to DeMoro.

In a letter to march organizers, city officials said they needed to move the ending rally of the march from Daley Plaza in the center of the Loop to the Petrillo Music Shell because the nurses' group had recently added rocker Tom Morello, formerly of Rage Against the Machine, as a speaker and performer.

Rahm is only doing this for their convenience, don't you know? There's going to be a musician there performing, so why not have it at the bandshell? That only makes sense. And seriously, who could object to having Rage Against the Machine in the park?

We can only hope he gives Thayer's chain a big yank in the coming days.

You're probably right. Intel coming in about the turnout expected has nothing to do with it right?

Nurses refused to surrender rooms they booked at Sheraton to Obama's crew. Therefore they had to be shown who is the boss.

I went to high school with Tom Morello, he was the only person the entire school hated with a passion (includes the teachers and staff)

My wife has been a nurse for Advocate Healthcare for almost 20 years and I'm pretty sure none of their nurses are union. She's not anyway. Where are all these union nurses working?

"Intel."

Please.

"Intel" has everything to do with it, Andy. The letter from the city said so -- as you know perfectly well.

The more demonstrators, the farther they get shunted off to minimize the damage they want to do -- to keep them out of the hair of the 99% as much as possible.

"Use Any Tactic," remember -- or do you people only say that on RT TV from Moscow, where I see you all the time?

"tom morello is another communist asshole."

This RoseAnn DeMoro calls her nurses' union "a clearinghouse for Left politics."

Birds of a feather...

Wait a second.

The City of Chicago GAVE Occupy use of the Petrillo Bandshell for FREE, and WAIVED THE INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS.

You could not ask for more "special treatment."

Andy Thayer actually said that they would "grudgingly accept" that which other people have to shell out good money for.

Now, these "nurses" ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING TO USE THE BANDSHELL -- and the police are being called "hired goons" and marked out as "violent."

How gracious of these uninvited visitors to our city.

...and it's still not enough. They want free housing while they're here smashing things -- as we have already seen happen all over the country.

Unbelievable.

A great story came out of the San Francisco "May Day" assault -- they tried to close down a restaurant, and the restaurant owners, workers, and patrons fought them off until police arrived.

The restaurant stayed open -- just the way the 99% wanted it.

Occupy constantly tries to split the "people" off from the "police." It didn't work there, did it?

Probably no one even noticed that Occupy's "May Day" production in Chicago drew virtually no comment whatsoever here. Just another inconsequential crowd control job that has been done many times before.

Don't get cocky just because you hear some grousing on the police web log about things that don't concern you; what is said over coffee and what is done on the job, on the street in an emergency, are two entirely different things.

The talk stops and the business gets taken care of.

"Fat" and "old" and "decrepit" and so forth are products of Andy Thayer's unpleasant imagination. Don't get hurt because of him.

You act up, and it is a simple fact that this city can -- and does routinely -- produce a sea of blue lights in moments. We're going to have a lot of help, too -- and there's plenty of room for you in the jailhouse.

This is a place in which the doors are steel, and there is no handle on your side. You will not like it.

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/07/18/us/18cook_01_600.jpg

Handcuffs are "one size fits all" and you will not like them either.

We would rather not have the hassle -- the 99% need police, fire, and paramedic services on a daily basis. Don't take away from sick people and crime victims and fire protection because you want attention.

First responders have enough on their hands without having to deal with a large temper tantrum.

You want to change things, go shopping for an old person. Teach a kid to read. Hire an ex-con. Help clean up after a bad storm.

The Sixties are not to be found here in Chicago, kids. They were over nearly half a century ago -- and they were not nearly what they were made out to be.

Take it from someone who was here for it all.

Be nice.

Two good posts from farther down the blog --

"You know, that "National Nurses United" has over 100,000 members -- and it is certain that a lot of them joined for reasons other than to be part of a "clearing house for Left politics," as one of the officials calls it.

"The situation reminds me of AARP -- a lot of people joined to get the insurance, prescription coverage, etc., not because of its radical anti-gun, pro-nanny agenda.

"It is sad to see how these NGOs are co-opted and steered from the top, using the money of a broad base of members at the bottom."

--5/08/2012 03:08:00 PM

...and here comes first-hand confirmation.

"My wife is a nurse and is also a part of that union. I was the
one who informed her about her union sending nurses to NATO. She said the funny thing is that they never notified anyone or took a vote about going. This was done behind their backs (sound familiar?)...

"My wife has called her union to complain along with most of her coworkers...Almost every nurse I have meet is 100% pro-police. They know and see the shit we have to deal with. They are just as pissed off at their union as I am."

--5/08/2012 10:25:00 PM

There it is.

Suggestion -- The "800 nurses" who came here to be "a clearinghouse for Left politics" can stay in bed with Occupy.

The other 99,200 members can simply leave and form a union whose leadership reflects their interests.

No elections, no firings, no nothing. You will wrangle forever that way. Easier, simpler, quicker to just LEAVE, and re-organize.

There is nothing the leftists can do to stop that.

I wasn't thinking of the union treasury when I wrote that. Can't let the commmunists keep that. It shouldn't be that hard to get rid of the leadership, though, when you have the vast majority against them.
