Rumors Rumors

Interesting if true:
  • This just in though, heard it tonight. The City is planning to mess with the wage scales in a very big way. Also every city employee is going to wake up after this NATO fiasco and find the city is going to take away a lot of the benefits, like holidays, personal days, etc. in order to make up for the pension problem. And there is more cuts coming in court overtime. Every officer is going to get a court card and a new identification card. The court card will be swiped in and out of the court building. There will only be a total of six people in the court section to handle those little problems dealing with the court cards and the court section will be at 35th Street. Change is coming soon.

We've seen attempts to cut OT at court many times before and it always results in clearance and conviction rates plummeting. This doesn't look any different. Anyone have insight or info?

I dont need to say it on behalf of the working police, but I will say it anyways. You take away the overtime I earn by making arrests and going to court then you take away the only reason I work harder than the dogs on this job.
The bean counters and bosses never seem to understand.......well if its anarchy they want then it will be anarchy they get....

Conviction rates aren't our problem. That falls squarely in the lap of the States Attorneys Office.

Just as we get stuck with a steaming pile on the street and have to pretty it up, same for the ASA.

Go ahead, cut my court time. I will save you the trouble and stop making ALL arrests. You can't make me make any on-view arrests. Only those driven by signed complaints...and I can talk a little old lady in white gloves buy a fudgesicle, so I can certainly talk her out of signing complaints! That goes against everything that I stand for, but, the city is forcing my hand...FUCK YOU!

Some brainstormer with big ambitions proposed this court card idea after going to the local Starbucks and swiping the Starbucks card and realizing what a great idea for a way to eliminate jobs and keep track of court. It would be an officers responsibility to swipe in and out of court. If the officer fails to do so...oh well. The City then saves money. I think you get the idea. It seems someone took a liking to this idea. In the long run the timekeepers in the districts are then not needed. Next are the people in those little cubicles in the detective divisions, and so on and so forth. Remember, the public wants officers on the streets! Why did the civilians want to be the police and then be put in as house mice? Nope. This administration is going to straighten all this out by using all technology possible and getting bodies out into the street. No kidding, as of March 2012 the department is actually 4000 people short. The people in the know, know this. But the people controlling the people in the know, disguise this very unsafe act of the shortage of police officers, by lying, and number playing and all other ways. This should be no surprise to anyone. The pension system is broken and certain people are going to be kissing ass to try to please their bosses by inventing ways to save the city money. There are cops that would sell their own mother in order to move up. Trouble is, moving up means not getting that once cherished D2 or D3 pay. Thats being looked at real hard. The FOP is going to cave in to a lot of cuts that the City of Chicago has planned because it will be the only way to keep jobs from being cut.

Thank God I am getting ready to pull the plug. All the things SCC mentioned that the City is about to "mess" with are in the contract, signed by the City. What they might save temporarily will be given back in legal fees.

This job becomes a larger pile of shit every day.

I remember the line I heard from an old timer wagon man I worked with so many years ago as I was a week off probation, "Hi, I'm Jimmy, I do nothing." I now completely understand.

look for Rahmmie (rhymes with commie?) to push a hard line in contract negotiations, i.e., swiping in and out, limited court appearances (for o.t.), givebacks in holidays, duty availability, reduction or elimination in uniform allowance (commissary system?), little or no pay raises, etc., etc...but, he seemed friendly at St. Jude's.....???

Sure Rahm wants to cut corners and save money, but the contract is the contract and there is only so much he can ignore about it.

There will be negotiations and we may lose something in order to gain something but for crying out loud have some faith and stop fucking believing every stupid theory that you hear.

If this young FOP president and his band of merry men can't pull off a reasonable contract negotiation then by all means voted differently next time.

This has been happening for a while now. I had a home invasion arrest from 2009. only went to two court dates, the PC hearing and the first day of the trial. When I went to the trial i looked at the blue sheets in the file, there were 21 previous dates i was never notified for. When i asked the ASA he said they sent subpeonas and then showed me the file. The ASA didn't have an answer for why this is not being questioned. So i say to this department G.F.Y., you took money away from me and my family, now all i do is answer my jobs, and backup my fellow officers. This Department has become an embarrassment for at least the past 6 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again, were not police officers were zoo keepers and the city of chicago is one big gorilla cage!!!!!! G.F.Y.

Last two times i went to traffic ct, i keep seeing this 20something female PO with like 3-5 years on the job. Let's see if you can get her back on the street. Nope, you can't do it. Maybe she has baby or something that keeps her off midnights, afternoons and the streets. Or maybe it's something or someone. I wonder how that works. Better keep her in a office behind closed doors. Let the Sgt. handle the desk.

OT if you think Rahm and the polititions downstate cant do what they want, just see what the did for health care benefits for state employees. They retired knowing that they or at least thinking that they would get free healthcare. In two days , one for the house and one for the senate to vote and cancel th that plus Quin said he is going to sign the bill That quick and the free healthcare is gone. Could happen to us and especially the po's that retired at 55 Not feeling sorry for the state employees just pointing out it could happen to us

Why must he honor the contract? He completely ignored the teacher's contract and laborers contract. Who will stop him? Who could stand up to the mayor if he ignores the contract? Do not even say FOP! Wait until NATO is over.

If true, making ends meet will be harder and motivating me will be extremely harder. I used to enjoy chasing and arresting shit birds. Until months ago, if a supervisor asked my partner and I to go down on a mission, we'd do so and bring in whatever was requested. Now, forget about it! Nothing proactive from me anymore. Take your court time and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. It's not worth the hassle. Same goes for this job as a whole.

I recently began requesting 1 personal in addition to my lunch everyday. I will soon begin requesting 2 personals and a lunch as allowed by our contract. This department has turned me into the officer I now am. And now our mayor is seeking to change our pension system in a way that will negatively affect us. The list goes on and on as to how this department and city screws us everyday. Well I'm not going to take it anymore. This city and department will reap what it sows.

To my fellow officers that were screwing my partner and I with all their "dodge ball maneuvers" long before Weis arrived, I say, game on.

Cuts, cuts, cuts, cuts....Look here City Hall and 35th St. Your short-sightedness prevents you from seeing the only meaningful cut you are doing with all your changes is that you are cutting your own throat. Understand? Good luck motivating the already beaten down troops that keep this city from becoming a lawless place.

Look around and see our union leaders going along with the conniving Racoon. They have their greedy self serving hands out for scaraps and we will get less than that. The unions talk a good line but always go with the city.

The reason I spell it Racoon is because I don't want to insult the real regular Raccoons out there who only chew through our cable wires and rifle our garbage cans.

Maybe you guys haven't noticed but plenty of jobs have already been cut through attrition. No hiring after retirements. That's cutting jobs. Daley started it. Rahm continues. We have no minimum number in the contract, you know, the contract the City ignores anyway.

All you guys saying that "they can't do this because of a contract". Bullshit. The fucking city will do what ever the fuck it wants. It will then be up to the unions and. Individuals who got. Screwed over to fight. Then, the city will appeal, maybe someone fighting the city will run out of money to continue the legal battle and the union MUST not stop the legal battle. The city wears legal battles down till the individuals say fuck it and find new jobs, or run out of money. While this goes on, city implimentation/policy stands till further notice. Your ass in not covered, cover each other and don't take it lightly!

Clocks for swiping/punching in and out were installed at 26th and Cal at least fifteen years ago. I'd love to know how much that whole fiasco cost the taxpayers because after a year of installations at court locations and calibrations the system was found to be defective and the whole thing was scrapped. I'm pretty sure there is still one of those bad boys on the wall in the sign-in room at 26th.

The city is already engaged in police layoffs through attrition. If they want to cut more and layoff active members, then the actual number of officers on the job will have to be made public. Since the city has been lying to the public about the number of police, they will not want their duplicity exposed.
