Still No NATO Order

  • Walking into a Metra station during NATO weekend might be a bit like walking into Soldier Field. No beverages, no backpacks and no weapons.

That means no morning coffee during your Monday commute on May 21, patdowns and other security measures the U.S. Secret Service doesn’t want to disclose.

Metra announced its plans Friday to step up security for the NATO Summit — including closing 26 stations on the Electric Line May 21 to focus security on stations with higher ridership.

If Metra makes it uncomfortable enough, people will just stop riding in. The protestors will count that as a "win." Same thing with the CTA. The restaurant closures and downtown workers being told to "dress down?" More wins. Anything that alters the day-to-day routines is a victory for these folks.

Even what's being done to our schedules.

how can it be much of a victory for these social outcasts when increasingly we see them as aimless, annoying and hugely ignorant putzes bent on disrupting/hurting innocent hard-working people who happen to be suffering the same dilemma as everyone else? they have no point, unless they focus their protests toward the ear of the president of the United States for the CHANGE he promised which he did not deliver.

Gee, I hope students who need to ride CTA, Metra and other transportation to school are able to bring their books.... since they can't be carrying a backpack, perhaps a shopping bag? And who is to say that some questionable items can't be transported in a purse or briefcase? Just sayin'

NO NATO ORDER... but new "narcotics court order"... effecitive 11may12... all officers going to "narcotics court" are to already have printed out with them a copy of isp lab report, prior to arrival attached to their time due slip, court sgt will not allow them to sign in without it... if an officer gets a slip past without an isp report, the XO will spar/suspend them for one day.... FIRST OFF DIDN'T THEY GET RID OF "NARCOTICS COURT" LIKE 10 YRS AGO... so they then must be talking about felony branch court....?? SO ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO HAVE AN ISP LAB REPORT IF YOU ARE THERE ON A ROBBERY OR BURGLARY PINCH??? STUPID PEOPLE MAKING STUPID RULES ***ONCE AGAIN WHERE IS THE UNION??????????

Al-Queda considered it a win when they caused economic disruptions in the economy of the United States and Europe.

Therefore it makes sense for the anarchists to claim victory if they disrupt the economy of the City of Chicago.

My question is "will Rahm declare that the NATO event was such a great event that it must be recognizd". I would imagine him then decide to add a fifth star to the flag of the City of Chicago.

Their music is sampled, (rock is dormant not dead), reality programs (the mundane smothered in a heaping load of histrionics) is their norm, RPGs simulate some kind of alternate reality they find appealing and other examples that can be observed when given the opportunity. Many are basement dwellers and/or suburban bottle fed brats who are just looking for something to waste their day. Don't ask them to open their eyes to reality, they find it irrelevant. This little moment of faux-anarchy is all they will have to look to as an accomplishment. It's kind of sad. To be so helpless, hopeless and clueless is going to make for a rough rest of their lives.

While I agree this order is stupid, you know the reason for it is because some stupid cops tried to go to court on a negative lab. So you screwed it up for yourselves.

Wow. Are you really this stupid??

If you have a felony or misdemeanor narcotics arrest (and narcotics is the only charge) you must bring a positive lab report to court with you....what is so hard to understand, dummy??

No positive lab? No OT. Try reading the (informal) order, numbnuts.

the order is poorly written and clearly done so under the direct oversight of the Supe - who doesnt know this shit of give a fuck about this shit. Regardless, it's pretty clear that if you are going to branch court of drugs (misd weed or felony) you need to have a positive lab report with you. What I think is the bigger issue is that they putting this on the shoulders of the copper, who has to call the lab and get the report themselves. WTF - why dont i just go test the shit myself. How much more shit must I be responsible for? How about the lab email me the results or email the arresting officer's unit with the results, and I can get them in roll call from the WC or sgt? No problem, supe. after roll call i'll be sure to sit in the station and make phone calls instead of taking jobs. And if I'm on 1st watch I'll make sure to stay after checkoff to call the lab, then drop a slip.

The reason that this order is delayed is because of the secret service. Did you get the "Secret" part? Get back in your momma's basement and come out on the 22nd. Do you really think that the Union has any control over when this order comes out? Please enlighten me of the contract violation. I have 1 more year left and I can't imagine what you would have done when your weekends where canceled almost everytime they came up. Although this is slightly off topic I'm hearing varying rumors about CTA special employment. I'm hearing 1st, 2nd and 3rd watch will be eliminated leaving only 4th and 5th watch.
That's the constant but what seems to vary is the date it will happen. I've heard the end of this month, I've heard the end of next month and I've heard the end of the year.
Anyone hear anything else?

COMMENT OF THE MONTH!!!

I salute you, sir or madam.

I wish I had said that.

"This little moment of faux-anarchy is all they will have to look to as an accomplishment."

So true. I'l never forget all the black-clad "anarchists" I saw outside that Dumb Kids Supply store at Harlem/Irving when Johnny Rotten was coming to town.

All dressed the same, lined up single file, waiting to buy tickets!

Anarchy! >snicker<

If you want to see brimming nostalgia and emotional overflow for That Which Never Really Was, watch Geoffrey Baer's Channel 11 segment on "Chicago in the 60s." All the balding, sagging hippies with original Grateful Dead posters custom-framed on the wall of their comfortable condominium.

Smoking a joint by Piper's Alley or telling themselves they ran from the police (a good safe three blocks away, probably) was the summit of their whole lives. Everything else since then has been anticlimax. They will never shut up about it until they die.

They're pathetic.

...and here comes the second generation of them, idiots purchasing a phony, retreaded Woodstock II and Chicago '68 II -- like you say, RPGs.

Just buy the DVD and stay home, why don't ya.

SOMEBODY BETTER WAKE UP QUICK HERE.

From the sidebar of the story SCC linked to --

[CTA] WILL NOT HAVE ADDITIONAL SECURITY SCREENING THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND

CTA had BETTER put screening at the Orange Line and Blue Line west terminals!

After you sift out the BS, everything here points to a southwest/west suburban presence around these terminals of people who are looking for trouble and plan to commute in to find it.

Also, lest we forget -- all this sound and motion is going to attract the Red Line flashmobs, who are going to come downtown to beat up Occupy. There is really little to screen for -- they have their fists and their feet.

Either screen at all the outlying stations -- you can't do it with 2000 of them bottled up underground at Chicago and State once they come in -- or, better, shut off the Red Line, as they are shutting down the nastier south side Metra Electric stations.

Not my idea -- I'm just processing what I see.

I guess leadership is going to have to come from a web log.

Mayor - male ballerina

Police superintendent - drunk somewhere

Public relations flack lady - disappeared

All is well! All is well!

--5/13/2012 07:51:00 AM

There are only two historical periods; "Right Now On My Smartphone" and "In The Funny-Looking Past."

ABC did a fictional series on America ca. 1940, "Home Front," and they had to toaster up the video, tint everything with weird green and sepia tones to denote "This Is Old." Really stupid. I've seen it elsewhere - it's a visual cliche by now. All these people follow each other on.

These "Xena"-type movies with everyone turning over twice in midair every time they move are a mishmosh of different time periods and complete thumb-sucking fantasy.

You notice what's left out?

No future.

I wish I had the full text of some kid's $29.95 T-shirt I saw once (016) -- "I DID NOT ASK TO BE BORN INTO THIS SHITTY WORLD I DID NOT ASK FOR ALL THE WARS AND EVERYTHING BAD YOU OLD PEOPLE MADE ITS ALL YOUR FAULT," on and on.

Well, uh, that makes everyone who was ever born...get in your tricked-out car, go home to your parents' A/C split-level, order a pizza, and get over it.

So...Had our helmets 'retrofitted' today. apparently Seer sells their 'kit' #S-5024 for the low, low price of $87.50 for our helmets.

Small problem. Kit includes the S-1286 "ear and neck protector" however, if you check the Seer website, this ear and neck protector comes in 4 different sizes, to match the 4 different size helmets you could have been issued. Looks like this kit only comes with one size ear and neck protector. What size is the "ear and neck protector" we were issued
since there is no size stamped anywhere on the item?

This might explain why some of these protectors broke before we even got them back to our lockers.

And why is the City using Gorilla glue, when the manufacturer's instruction sheet that comes with the retrofit kit specifically specifies super glue??

Two final questions: Where is the new carry bag, that the larger face shield will fit in? And did anyone else notice that this whole thing is now 'front heavy' meaning it now wants to slide off the front of your head? I think we'd all be better off with real full face motorcycle helmets.
