Officer Injured

  • A Chicago police sergeant was seriously injured this morning when his squad car was struck by another vehicle in a crash that authorities suspect was alcohol-related, officials said.

The officer collided with a green Ford at about 2:22 a.m. near the intersection of 59th Street and California Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said.

No details of the accident were available, but a police spokesman said alcohol was suspected in the crash and that charges were pending against the second driver.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

SCC, thank you for reporting this story. A 3 time DUI driver crashed into Sgt Vargas squad car as he responding to a call in the 8th dist. The offender was trying to eat while he was trying to drive and had open liquor in his vehicle when he collided with Sgt Vargas squad car. Sgt Vargas injuries are severe and he's still in the ICU at Christ Hospital in OakLawn. Felony charges were approved for this illegal immigrant with no license, no insurance. And as you know, Cook County President Tony Preckwinkle will not notify ICE when illegals are released from jail after committing serious offenses. One of our own deserve more than a blurp in the local media outlets. We need all the prayers for a speedy recovery.

She's busy anyway, down on her hands and knees at the morgue with a bucket a Soilax and a scrub brush.

Can someone else, you know, do a speed dial?

Most people just get cut onto the street. This way, the guy gets snacks, a ride home, everything. Do him a favor, huh?

I mean, no human being is illegal.

Son of a bitch. More every day.

"Sanctuary City."

The way you fix this -- a city gives no cooperation with ICE, it gets NO FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ANYTHING.

Watch the climate change overnight.

SGT has a concussion, a bleed on the brain, fracture in a bone in his spine, and had to have his face stiched back together. He was moved to ICU-it is going to be a long recovery for him. Hopefully he will be able to come back to work within the year but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. I was worried about the bleeding on the brain, normally you get a hole drilled in your skull to let it drain so excess pressure doesn't build, but was told that wasn't done. God speed, RV.

Sgt Vargas is a former UNITED STATES MARINE! Believe it he will be back. The strength is in his blood. Does anyone think a MARINE wouldn't comeback even stronger in his mind, heart and soul. God speed Rudy! Semper Fidelis.

No doubt about it Sergeant Vargas is a stand up boss. Will defend you and back you. Not afraid to make a command decision. No not all bosses are right all the time but on the street Rudy is a boss I want when the shit hits the fan. And the reason why he is there working out the details with you side by side. Rudy loves the working Police and if your not so much he expects that you just do your job! Fuck no one likes dogs except another ass sniffing dog.
