There Are No Police To Send

That decision to discontinue CTA Special Employment is looking pretty short sighted and stupid now, isn't it?

Along with the disbanding of Summer Mobile eight years ago.

And not having a uniformed citywide response unit that could go and put out the "hot spots" that are turning the downtown tourist areas into flaming infernos.

But hey, what do street cops know?

001 has no rapids and due to no manpower all cars were 99 with three beat cars down. Good thing they have 6 full tact teams not helping with calls.

Add to that a city administration that either doesn't care or have a clue what to do about it.

Jody and Garry knew and know what works best. The fact we had units in place for incidents that occur yearly like clockwork and off duty cta employment to make our presence known made no sense.

We may of had some hack gold stars running the show, but at least they knew what slithers around the streets of Chicago and that it takes police force and not spreadsheets to combat it.

As a private citizen, I appreciate the information available on this blog. I do not understand how the mayor can deny that the police force is undermanned. What else has to happen? It would seem that public safety is not as important as speed cameras and infrastructure deals. I wouldn't mind the speed cameras if he used the money to add more police and ensure a fair and generous contract renewal for the men and women on the beat.

What good did hosting NATO do if people cannot walk through the Loop and Gold Coast at 10 p.m. on a Saturday night, or take the red line.

CTA Special Employment mainly took care of the bus routes while the regular CTA guys take care of the trains. Don't blame Special for the problems, blame the dogs that are assigned to the CTA Mass Transit Section. You can't find those guys anywhere.

Due to constant track work, large throngs, age of El cars (dating back to 1976 and 1980), "express" trains, bomb scares and fires, I rarely ride the El.

i know alot of non police read this blog....this is for you. the mayor has removed many police from details and areas of the city comprimising citizen safety. you need to make some noise. there are far fewer officers working the cta and downtown areas these days and that because of the mayors cuts......wake up people

What do they do when they've stripped the PO's out of every office and inside job there is and they are still short a couple of thousand officers and the Gold Coast and downtown are still going up for grabs?

And of course, no one left to send. And no recruits in the pipeline and no one to train them should a large hiring push begin.

Even if they hired lots of recruits it would be at least two years until recruits know enough to be useful out there.

And round the clock police detail in front of and behind 4228 N Hermitage. That doesn't count the unseen police at the command post a few blocks away or the bodyguards that are always with the Rahmzilla.

I am glad as hell to be getting out soon. That would be one more shortage. Keep my house safe, will you now lads?

Sgt.Rick(Retired),a.k.a. Baby "G". The CTA cannot police itself unless it has a huge influx of officers, or Spl. Employment. The Spl. Employment Program employed almost 100 officers per day and they worked for straight time! This was the only program in the police department where officers worked their days off for straight time. Bringing in 40 plus officers into regular Mass Transit is not the answer because these officers will go on the Medical, take furloughs, Regular Days Off, etc. So the reality is that less than 25 officers on any given day will be spread out on a 24/7 operation. That means that there are not enough officers to put two at each station on the System! Claypool is a Political Hack, who was naive enough to believe "Da Machine" when he withdrew from his run for County Bd. President. The CTA leadership is his prize for loyalty to Da Machine. Keep your family from riding the System and warn your friends and neighbors. The simple reality is that the current deployment of police personnel cannot protect the ridership. We are one homicide away from a disaster, next time some tourist lands on his head and dies, then things will change. Graber the Cmdr. of CTA is a Prince and great leader, but he has no troops. He will be Da Goat!

Us real old timers also remember LOOP TRAFFIC, while a nice job, they did make a lot of arrests and kept the area calm.
Of course Richie diverted the extra tax dollars the downtown merchants were taxed and spent it on his buddies

Rahm got the money for CTA from the feds.

Instead of using this money for current police special employment, he used the money to hire a class of police oficers.

This way he could say he hired more police officers, without adding any payroll.

Classic THEFT!

The poster obviously meant that there were 3 beat cars down. You cannot possibly be the police in 001 if you are hearing new beat numbers. Those beats were added when 21 closed because 001 got geographically larger. Bt.121 and 114 were not there 10 years ago or 26 years ago. I was.

You sure dont work the watch tact warrior... All 3rd watch cars over the weekend were 99 with 3 cars down due to no manpower while 001 has more tact teams than any other dist in the city. So, get off the internet in the tact office and get back on the street to get your 1 anov for the tour so you can finish your red box movie on your dvd player in your hiding spot?

Time to bring back dedicated independent Transit Police, Park District Police, and Aviation Police departments.
And auxiliary police.
With managerial brass recruited nationally.
Specialized missions require specialized forces.
And allow city police at strength to police the city.

Pay for it by placing surcharges on speculative financial tranactions, soft-drinks, bars and booze, amusement, entertainment and sports industry events.

And make corporations pay taxes that they legally avoid now.

We don't have a budget crisis; we have a revenue crisis.

Ur an asshat .The number of officers assigned to mass transit has gone from 450 in its hayday to about 175 now which includes the 50 that just came in.TAke 20 away for dog handlers and another 30 for tac and ur left with around 125 for all 3 watches. The ohare blue, brownline and midway orange are never manned because of the bullshit missions downtown is always assigning.

And in his wisdom the Super decided that days didn t need to be manned and took 15% from the watch. And don t forget the unit doesn t assign cars to the officers so it may take the one team assigned a line 20 minutes to get to a call which is why the district ends up with the job

Man, and you wonder why I am starting to hate many of my co-workers along with citizens.
Coppers: you bitch to much, but at the end of the day you are not willing to send a message due to fear of losing your spot, car, inside gig, etc, etc.some of you have no business working at Walmart, McDonalds , much less carry a star and gun while calling yourself the police.

Citizens: You bitch when the police show up when they don't show up, about the parking ticket, about the petty traffic ticket, " don't you have to catch some criminals".

Citizens , we are like you except that when we wear the uniform we have to play the part, and at times it includes being an asshole. Although we are part of the government, we are not politicians nor do we support their actions, they want to screw us as much as they want to screw you. Us even more so, because we are great sacrificial lambs for politicians to use in order to appease you.

Don't forget politicians are like Mickey mouse, he tries to act cute to win you over and welcome you to the magic kingdom, but at the end of the day he is still a fukn RAtT!
