Talked to lefty friends and brought up crime in the city. They responded that it is just an exaggeration and its just news sensationalism. Totally oblivious to their lives and safety. They quickly changed the topic. So sad that they create the prey for these animals.

I carry in the city and refuse to go down without a fight. Suburb cop.

Good shooting.Gutsy man. Think twice mothafuckas!

I gave my dad a gun because he and my mom drive between FL and MI a lot. He told me he kept it under the driver's seat. I told him it was useless there--when they stopped at rest-stops he should have it in his pocket and be ready to shoot. I told him he didn't have to display it, just shoot from his pocket if he had to. So far so good.

This video is a heart warmer. Looks like he had a pocket .380 Excellent gun for warm weather shorts and t shirt. Hides perfectly in front pocket. Only problem here is that when the mutts heal up at the hospital at the tax payer expense they will probably move to our sanctuary city Chicago. Their type of maniacal behavior will never work out in a conceal carry state like Florida.

Of all the states in the union. Illinois would have had the greatest chance for a successful robbery with dead victims. The CCW law in Florida saved someones life today. A valid reason to vote Republican in the next election.

Terrible just terrible. The old guy should have had a 17 shot Glock, extra magazines and more training. That guy could have pumped 5 shots each into the savage animals, could have been two shitheads DOA.

Instead we have to pay to get these oxygen thieves to trial and the old guy will likely get sued for interrupting the education of two future brain surgeons.

That said, nice shooting old guy! Let's hope you got some shots into them that they will long remember. I like the no hesitation come out shooting stance of the old guy, not a second of hesitation, bang bang. My vote for citizen of the year.

Of course you would never find any of the sheep in Chicago do that unless they were off duty law enforcement. Here they would try to reason with the shitheads and meekly surrender their valuables and promise to send a check.

There is a video of a shooting at a suburban pawn shop/jewelry store which is a good shoot/don't shoot lesson. Two scholars in broad daylight (already on camera) pull shirts up to cover their lower faces and walk into the store...one pulls out a gun...the owner pulls out an even bigger one...owner blasts the gunman with his hand cannon...both wannabe robbers run out the door and the wounded one drops outside. Total length of the incident from pulling up the shirts to leaving the store was under four seconds. Owner's decision time was a second or so. Shoot was ruled justifiable.

" I told him he didn't have to display it, just shoot from his pocket if he had to."

I guess its the liberal juice talking, but if one is going to fire a weapon in public, isn't some sort of aiming called for? Unless the attacker is atreallycloserange, that is. I am guessing that actual cops aim when shooting.

My worry (not advocating against it, just a concern) abt concealed carry is that, despite what we might wish to think of ourselves, most of us are not police material. How will/do the numbers play out, assholes shot vs bystanders ventilated?

Please don't just call me names for maybe doubting the SCC Common Wisdom; if someone has numbers that address this, share them. My mind is not made up yet and I like learning.

But my hat is way off to Old Guy In Video. I'd buy him as many coffees as he wants!

I made my first gun arrest on 1st watch as a PPO in 1978. My FTO was 'resting his eyes' around 0300 hrs as I drove on empty streets in an all white area. I saw movement down a side street as I went by. I turn and see a young, well dressed, white guy, carrying a briefcase, with his hand inside his coat around his armpit. He looks up and we make eye contact and suddenly I see "THE LOOK". You know, that one where they see POLICE, and their eyes, face and body language says "OH SHIT, IT'S THE COPS!"

Quickly, white guy diverts his eyes and starts walking with more purpose, not running, but a quicker pace. I immediately back up as the guy turns into a white picket fenced yard. I tell my FTO this guy's acting funny. We jump out and tell the guy to stop and he does. I ask him what's in his coat and he says "a gun". SAY WHAT??? Turns out he's a jewelry salesman on a late flight home and carrying a jewel case full of, you guessed it, jewelry.

Now, Deputy Hanhart might have taken the jewelry and run, but this was my first gun, and I mean MY 1st gun since my partner was 'resting'. He suggested we COULD let the guy go, considering the circumstances, (FTO testing me?), but I'd just gotten out of the academy where we got a steady diet of IAD anti-corruption speeches and suggestions that we MAY even run into police "integrity checks" on the street. In fact, another guy in our district had just caught a purse snatcher with a purse FULL of cash where the fleeing offender turned out to be an FBI decoy testing for police corruption. He passed the test but it gave everyone religion knowing that it happened.

So, we make the arrest, I get my first gun recovery, I get my first Honorable Mention, I get a great evaluation from my FTO, I even get a mention from the WC for a good pinch at the next roll call, yet this arrest is the one and only one I regret making in my entire career. Even though the guy WAS guilty and lost his gun and only got probation, I realize that this guy was simply protecting himself "just in case".

I told that whole story to say this: For citizens to be carrying a concealed handgun for their own protection and "just in case", does not make them a criminal. There is no longer enough police protection in the city of Chicago to warrant feeling at ease, even in the most touristy neighborhoods. roving bands of thugs, robbers, thieves and miscreants have made the streets unsafe. The guy I arrested in my story, above, would NOT be arrested by me today. In this ultra liberal, anti-gun society, people have a need and a RIGHT to live peaceably and nothing will cure this society's problem with bands of criminals better than a few more dead Trayvon Martins' or shooting like the one in this clip.

Great video and great work by a citizen-taxpayer. Scenes like this play out all across the United States, where virtually every state besides IL has some type of concealed carry permit available to those who qualify. In most incidents, the display of the weapon alone is enough to stop the crime and no shots are fired. Bottom line: armed citizens can and do stop crimes.

Indiana's had a carry permit available for years. It's kind of insulting knowing that the people there are smart enough to carry a gun, but they're not smart enough in Illinois.

Gary's crime rate is down because there's nothing left to steal and the potential victims have all moved away.

Besides, Illinois victims are easy pickins!

"My worry (not advocating against it, just a concern) abt concealed carry is that, despite what we might wish to think of ourselves, most of us are not police material. How will/do the numbers play out, assholes shot vs bystanders ventilated?"

Cops carry guns because they have to. It's a duty requirement. They have to qualify every year. They get paid to train and the instruction comes out of their department's training budget.

A civilian on the other hand, carries a gun as an option. They have to seek their own training and pay for it themselves. Some state's carry permits require more training than others.

That alone tells me that the average civilian carrying a gun is more interested in its proper use than the average cop. Please note that I said "average."

This is certainly not true in all cases; many police officers I know go beyond the yearly 30-round qualification and seek to be better trained than the department mandates them to be, but it's a small percentage.

I've had the opportunity to train both civilians and police with firearms. I've seen good and bad in both groups, but in my experience, the civilians take the training more seriously.

I was about to rip you a new one for arresting this guy and violating his Constitutional right to keep and bear arms while acting for anti-gun communists in Chicago, but at least you realize that you made a mistake.

Too many idiot cops don't understand that Chicago has been violating rights like this for too long. Just because they say it's illegal doesn't make it so. You can have guns. You should protect yourself.

They say they won't enforce immigration laws here, but want to hammer innocent civilians for keeping weapons to protect themselves with. This is bullshit.
Unfortunately, we still have morons that want to bust gun collectors and senior citizens just to get that bullshit UUW pinch. I only wish the same on them one day as this becomes more of a communist police state.

Alverez would prosecute the old man for continuing to shoot after the threat ended.

trust me

Fuck that bitch. I would make sure my lawyer brings up the fact that an armed robber can still easily turn and fire through the storefront window. And that the threat is only reasonably over when the thug is not armed anymore, or out of range. How many times in police shootings does the thug turn and fire while running away, same thing here.

about drawing on him
he didnt just "stand his ground"
he chased thier bytch asses right out of there
now if that was chicago
Rhambo and McStreetlights would be whineing about how he shot them
and that those two bytches were misguided and should have just "Hugged A Thug"
if i was him and they said any thing about court and charges i would demand a trial by jury and let a "Jury Of My Peers" decide my fate
rhambo i know your reading this as well as seen it on tv
give up your stupid handgun rules
and let the state decide who is legal and who's not
the ISPD does a very good job on background checks and if thought a person shouldn't have one they dont get it

7/19/2012 11:27:00 AM

I don't see how you or anyone would call this a "good pinch?" This guy is an honest citizen protecting himself and would probably protect you and your family too. He is what we need more of in society, but I understand how you may have had to make the arrest. But it's not a good pinch by any means.

7/19/2012 04:11:00 PM"

Amen. I've taken multiple formal training courses (including Ayoob, Cirillo) and the best shot in the class has usually been a cop ... and the worst shot has generally been a cop. In their defense, even the guy at the bottom of the class is out there on his own dime trying to get better. Randomly selected cop compared to randomly selected civilian gun owner? I say it's a toss up. Enough with "the civies aren't cop material" ...

More citizens like this gentleman are exactly what we need right now in Chicago. This 60 yr old retired female has taken to carrying even in Edison Park due to the increase in predators and decrease in on duty police presence in past two years. That baby boomer in the video made my day! lol KMA2010

7/19/2012 08:37:00 AM

**********

I have not taken that step yet but I do keep a loaded handgun near my bed. I would sincerely hope that if I were ever caught with a firearm going about my day-to-day business, the cop(s) would look the other way.

Police carry as part of the job, but you can take your piece home at night and/or have as many as you want in your home to defend your family. I think it's only fair I have the same right (like the constitution says).

Someone buy this old man a brewski. If it was in Chicago he'd get charges pressed for firing at them as they were exiting.

SITE SEARCHWEB SEARCH BY UPDATE: Jewelry store owner won't face charges for shooting robber
Posted: Sep 09, 2009 11:09 PM CDT
KENOSHA (WKOW) -- The jewelry store owner who shot an armed robbery won't face any charges.

Assistant District Attorney Richard Ginkowski says the owner of the Jewelry Exchange in Kenosha was acting in self-defense on Wednesday when two men walked into his store and one pointed a handgun at him. The store owner pulled his own gun out from under the counter and shot the armed man in the chest.

Both suspects the store, and a police officer found the injured man about a block away.

The injured man is recovering at a hospital. Ginkowski says the man, a 29-year-old from Zion, Ill., is likely to face robbery charges. Police are still looking for the other suspect.

KENOSHA (WKOW) -- A jewelry store owner kept his store from being robbed Wednesday by shooting one of the would-be robbers, according to Kenosha police.

Authorities say two male suspects walked into the Jewelry Exchange Wednesday afternoon. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the store owner, but the owner drew his own handgun from underneath a desk and shot the suspect in the chest.

The would-be robbers fled, but police found the wounded suspect lying in the grass about a block from the store. He was conscious and taken to a hospital. Authorities say he is in stable condition.

The other suspect is still at large. Neither of the men has been identified, but the wounded man is a 29-year-old who police believe is from Zion, Ill.

The crime scene is under investigation.

Remember when Gary Indiana was the murder capital ?
Why did violent crime go down there?

Think Indiana's concealed carry law could be the reason, just wondering.

7/19/2012 09:25:00 AM

That could be part of it.

Part of it could be that there is no one left in Gary to kill.

7/19/2012 05:00:00 PM

I remember back in the late 70's riding with a CPD unit as part of the CPD academy Suburban class, making street stops and the confiscations of weapons from the older generation black folk on the south side. They carried for their own protection of course they weren't charged....my thought is let them keep it....

You don't sound like a Police Officer to me. In 1978, I did what I was trained to do as a cop. I DO NOT apologize for making this arrest. In 1978 and right out of the academy, my police discretion DID NOT allow me to let armed citizens roam free. It was, by it's technical and procedural elements, and by the letter of the law, a perfect arrest:
* The offender was carrying a gun IN VIOLATION OF THE LAW;
* As a P.O. on patrol, I observed a situation that, in it's entirety, piqued my suspicion;
* I chose to STOP the guy based on my "police sense", (hmmm, something looks odd about this);
* With a couple of standard, preliminary inquiries that DID NOT constitute an interrogation, the offender VOLUNTEERED that he had a gun;
* The man was arrested and the LOADED, ILLEGALLY CONCEALED weapon was recovered without incident or injury to anyone;
* The weapon was destroyed and the offender plea bargained the case ACCORDING TO ILLINOIS LAW;
* I FAITHFULLY performed my duties as a law enforcement officer that I was hired and trained to do.

This was a "good pinch" because of all of the above reasons...
It was also a good pinch because I did my job exactly as my training taught me...
It was a good pinch because, even though I was patrolling in a quiet neighborhood in the wee hours of the morning, I was still alert and on 'aggressive, preventive patrol' instead of "resting my eyes" in the hole somewhere (not that I've never done that)...
It was a good pinch because I didn't let the guy go and possibly get caught in an "integrity check" by IAD or the FBI and lose my job and livelihood for my family and humiliate myself and my ancestry for being stupid...
And it was a good pinch because even though cops are inherently given SOME power of discretion in performing their duties, that power is greatly diminished the higher up the crime scale you go, (eg. giving someone a warning on a parking or moving violation may be okay but murderers, rapists, pedophiles etc. go to jail EVERY TIME!).

Finally, 2012 IS NOT 1978. If you had read my comment, you'd have noticed that I DID say this man "would NOT be arrested by me today." Reading is a skill... learn it!

It is a shame that that the reporter would even have to say that, but in these days, I am not surprised.
7/19/2012 04:03:00 PM

Once the Reporters learn about the "Castle Doctrine" we have here in Florida they won't be making those comments any more.

The "Castle Doctrine" has three legs;
the first that we all hear about is the "Stand Your Ground", no duty to retreat law.
The second is the "Presumption of Deadly Intent", or persons entering your home uninvited.
But the best part of the "Castle Doctrine" is the ""Bar to Lawsuites".

If the shooting is Righteous, the shooter may not be sued in civil court.
