A few weeks ago, Weis-inger told Gene Williams his head was on the chopping block. That Gene was incompetent in his current position of "Acting Chief of Patrol." Yesterday, the axe finally fell and Weis-inger took his promised vengeance on his rival.
Williams was named Chief of the Administrative Bureau.
Wow. Get called out in front of 200-plus of your fellow exempts, co-workers, underlings, politicians and others, then get promoted with a big bump in pay? It's like he's got "Anthony Carothers Syndrome" or something - take three or four weeks straight of verbal beatings at CompStat and get a higher rank and better pay.

yah, ya know why that is genius? Because it doesn't matter which psychotic nutjob gets promoted to what job, in the end it's the BLUE SHIRTS that do the fucking work or not, not the fucking idiot who sucked the right dick to get promoted.
It's painfully clear at this point that the vast majority of us blue shirts regardless of whether in a district or a unit are absolutely fed up and done with Emanuel and the shithead bosses that run this department.

Actually, though Williams was "acting" Chief of Patrol, he already was a Chief, so it's not a promotion, it's a lateral move.
Can't you guys see it? Gene was a threat to Al's vision of himself heading the CPD when/if McNutty gets shoved out in August/whenever. By disparaging Gene and moving him out of a high profile position, there's left effort for Al to impress Rahm later on that he's "the guy" to replace McNutty further down the road. With Williams now shoved into a much lesser public profile job, and appearing to have 'failed' in the Chief of Patrol position, it makes it less likely that Rahm would consider Williams as a replacement for McGoof. OF course, Al's forgetting that he'll only appear competent when photographed next to a Whole Foods shopping bag.
The fact that Gene took care of Al in the Narcotics Section several years ago makes this look even
worse for Al's feeble attempt to become supt. in
the future. Gene gave Al many good positions
in OCD, positions that were until that time pretty
much unattainable for a black sgt. in that unit
(like supervisor of the airport/union station
interdiction teams). And everybody at the time
knew Al didn't get those positions due to any
real competence on his part (not a bad sgt., but
certainly not outstanding in any respects).
This strategy now being used by Al is nothing
new in the CPD. Disparage, ridicule, demote, move, move again...until the affected person retires/resigns. This was done many times under
Weis, so it has a proven track record. Has it made
the CPD a great place to work, a paradigm of
modern leadership? You be the judge.

Williams was already getting paid at chiefs pay, under the old system.
So big al says gene can't efficiently run patrol so put him in charge of administration? He didn't have the power to dump him but he did cut his nuts off. Gene will have a bunch of city hall people under him, Ladner, Amati, wilson, etc. he won't be able to fuck with them.
I think he is around 58 with over 30 years on and a chiefs pension, about $130k a year, retire and enjoy the bullshit gold braid pension

The Chief is a real class act and a great boss. Whatever his duties are now, I am sure he will do well. Just disappointed he is not in Patrol where he has done a great job for years, even before the crime explosion under the new boss. Maybe they should have let him implement his ideas on things instead of letting it get to this point.

None of these items would make any significant reduction in the City's budget. Actually selling the hours would greatly increase it. Holiday pay cuts, personal and baby furlo days? The small savings there makes it just a way to reduce our benefits just to do it. Working 12 hour days is really a lot. Working in this type of job that many hours is going to further shorten my life. I am not a fireman. We don't get breaks in between our work so it's nonstop for 12 hours everyday? Going to be miserable.

Better yet, how about Tom Bryne and Constantine Andrews who are in charged of the Detective Division and have never been Detectives or worked in the Detective Division. Wayne Gulliford is the Deputy Chief of the biggest shit hole in the city and never been a District Commander. They are giving Leo Schmidt every resource, all the police, every gang officer and every body they can find and he is still shoot em up city!

They always took care of coppers and that's the bottom line. Who gives a shit if Gulliford was a district commander or not or if Byrne was a dick (which he actually was)?
