Cop Attacked
A police officer was attacked early Friday during a foot chase in the South Chicago neighborhood.
Two officers were on patrol in a squad car when they saw two men, one with a gun, standing in a garage near 80th Street and Manistee Avenue about 1 a.m., police said. The male officer jumped out of the car and starting chasing the armed man on foot while his female partner tried to cut him off the squad car.
But when the man saw the squad car he doubled back toward the garage, police said. Just then, the other man struck the male officer with a “blunt object,” possibly some kind of steel pole. He initially thought he’d been hit with a bat.
Treated and released for unspecified "non-life threatening" injuries. Get well soon Officer.

Why--since it seems to have no bearing on the matter at hand--did the Sun-Times deem it necessary to mention the gender of the injured officer's partner? If all the information in the article came from CPD, why did our people feel the need to specify the gender of officer?

I find this story confusing. Was the second black man with the pole hiding behind something so the officer did not see him. I wasn't sure how the one black perp doubling back causes the second black man to appear suddenly and hit the cop.

I work in a very busy district and we have plenty of foot chases. I do not mean to insult anyone and please do not take what I say the wrong way. It is constructive criticism and you can do what you please with it.
In my district when most officers get into foot chases they don't even know where the fuck they are! 1. So please learn the geography of your district. Learn the streets and it's coordinates inside and out. 2. Learn all of the tricky streets that stop, start and end, have dead ends, etc... 3. Practice basic common sense always.
I wish the officer who was hurt a speedy and full recovery. I hope your injury is not serious and if it is I hope you recover fully with 110% health. I will be praying for you brother.
Glad the officer injured is going to be ok. Too bad he didn't arrange for his attacker to take a permanent dirt nap, as he deserved.

B. Sounds to me, reading about it the next morning, like the circumstances that could lead to at least one justifiable shooting by police.

This Officer is from the same team as Officer Pearson. This makes three guys out on iod from this team. Two from shooting related incidents and now this. Off topic SCC but, heard this at the 014th staff meeting the other day.......DC LF was talking about staffing the cars when she said " PO's are entitled to NOTHING, WE decide what they get period""......with a mind set like this we are truly screwed.....also in 014, we were told that 3 man cars take priority, no more 2 partners working a car you must have a third man on the car even if you have been working the same car with your partner for "fifteen" years.......with the likes of her and the brilliant Lt. DH 014 is the place to be......

The lead Sanford Police investigator who sought manslaughter charges against George Zimmerman told the FBI that a sergeant and two other officers tried to pressure him into making an arrest in the controversial case.

Records released Thursday show a federal law-enforcement agent accompanied George Zimmerman to his police interrogations, and FBI interviews did not turn up any sign of racial bias in the shooting of Trayvon Martin – Telling the FBI that he was concerned that people inside the police department were leaking information, Serino cited Sgt. Arthur Barnes, officers Rebecca Villalona and Trekelle Perkins “as all pressuring him to file charges against Zimmerman after the incident,” an FBI report said. “Serino did not believe he had enough evidence at the time to file charges.” The summary of Serino’s statement does not mention the race of the officers who allegedly pressured him, but sources told The Miami Herald that Barnes and Perkins are black, and Villalona is married to an African-American man. All three, the source said, had been called in by their supervisor and questioned about leaking information in the case.
OT Just read the article in the Sun Times about CPD disability Has anyone heard of total disability? I know there is the duty(IOD) disability, normal disability and occupational(heart) disability but have never heard of toal disability and why wouldnt it be covered by one of the other three

As I recall, 'Total Disability' is quickly turned into a Medical Retirement with % benefits based upon time in title/city.
So I'd bet they didn't make it a separate category so they wouldn't have to count it twice.

Looking at Sundays sun-times the guy on the cover, people inside some on the job for a few months stealing from the coppers that work hard working pensions! Coppers work hard to get that small pension, now with contract negotiations started just what we need another hit! How do I slow down from zero? What should I do, grab parkers out of the citation bin and shred them?

This is already being done. The midnight lt came to roll call and made it very clear no one is to move out there without getting "debriefed" until these assholes are charged. The neighborhood said they ain’t gonna snitch so he has cars out there doing enforcement on everything and said since the community doesn’t want to help we’re gonna have to do it ourselves and have to stay there a long time looking for the guys who did this. He’s a good guy and he ain’t fucking kidding, he was serious about this. I almost wanted to come in with something, at least something from over there.
