Rumor Mill Working Hard

Other things that pop up:
  • My neighbor works for Chicago Motor Maintenance/Fleet Management and I could not help but notice a marked CPD squad car parked in front of his house for the past 2 nights. I inquired and was shocked to hear that the workers at the area were instructed that they can take card to/from work to "test" them............but my informant at 35th st told me the real reason is to give the "illusion" of more officers on the streets!!! These hacks from downtown are really stretching with this one!!!! With the upcoming 500 new hires and all the motor maintenance take home cars that will make us at full strength right???

....and a reply:

  • So, when a frantic, terrified victim runs into the street to flag down some help from one of these auto mechanics, WHAT THEN?

Then they are going to be really terrified.

Another one:

  • Starting August 1, all Robbery Dets assigned to districts will be in uniform and will be assigned ALL robbery jobs via OEMC.

All Dets from the Area and Districts will be expected to patrol the street between assignments. At least one Det Sgt will be assigned a Conflict Zone in the Area or District and will ensure his available units are conducting stops in the zone. The Det Sgt will be held responsible for his unit's daily activity.

The Detective Division as it was once known is gone forever.
The D-Unit as we once knew it is already gone, but forever is a long time.

NO MORE SERGEANT’S AS STATION SUPERVISORS BEGINNING
1 January 2013

It seems that someone downtown realizes that a great majority of us sergeant’s DO NOT GIVE A FUCK when we are the station supervisor WITHOUT any out-of-grade pay.

Actually even with the extra $40 @ day most of us give a shit about what happens.

5 people shot?

Now 6 people shot?

WHO GIVES A DAMN!!!

I took the lieutenant’s test legit . . did not score high enough and now Mayor 9.5 says you can do the job anyway FOR NO PAY?! Let the bodies fall!

Word has come out beginning 1 January 2013 only lieutenants will be the station supervisor with the possibly of having Captain’s only working the
3rd watch as a “Watch Commander”.
Stay tuned for more updates…

this department IS SO FUCKED UP.. no one knows where it is going.

That sounds like nonsense. Whoever wrote that must think Dics get an assignment and then code it out. Thus giving them time to patrol between assignments. It doesnt take into consideration the interviewing of witnesses, photo spreads, evidence processing, and not to mention all those wonderful reports that have to be prepared. Nope this one is B.S.

JUST KEEP SHOPPING!!

And you guys in blue TURN ON THE BLUE LIGHTS AND KEEP THEM ON DAMN IT!

If you have to get out of the car always carry a clip board. Lean forward when you are walking and do it at a fast pace like you are on a mission with things to do and important people to see. Like you are going to a compstat meeting or something!

This gives the citizens the illusion that you mean business and things are under control. Clip boards conjure up images in peoples minds ...you know?

Downtown though also wants activity from dicks, including contact cards and parkers during their tours if possible. Keep laughing, cuz things will change forever soon.- heard from the inner circle awhile ago. P.S. The mayor is the one that wants everyone, including dicks to write parkers.......

I think its a tad different. Tact unit persons will work with dect's assigned to dist as a robbery mission teams. Please dont discount the large percentage of dects from certain areas whom have juice or a little boost to make detective from the last test. Same as those SGTs who couldnt tie their shoes who scored surprisingly high on the exam to which they were promoted. Uncle wont let his boys suffer that long.

This might turn out to be a good idea if it is true.Too many detectives have an attitude and fail to realize, they are basically just patrolmen. Years ago before it became an actual rank, the stars were no different than patrol officers. Now if they come back to earth, and some of them were never there, they just tested well; having them back on the street might actually clear crimes. The old detective tactic of suspending the case because they failed to find the victim might end.

Well, if it is true then the clear rate will fall even lower.

After 9/11 the dets worked in uniform for a couple of weeks and it was difficult to get people to talk at interviews as they seemed to be waiting for the "guys in the shirts and ties" to show up.

MMD used to have vans with Police markings and blue lights before they went to Fleet. R-men used to complaint they'd be stopped by disturbances and even shot at by the beast. They pay Exempts big money for ideas like this and cut hours at the MMD for the grease monkeys.

On another note, how about installing a "Trunk Monkey" in our cars?

Its a start--but we still need a desk sgt. The POs do an amazing job on the mechanics (court paperwork, supplies/xerox repair/pcad-etrack and chris wrangling...)--but we still need the accountability of a Sgt. Supervisors get paid/trained to decrease liability, assure correctness and handle conflicts/complaints.
Unlike Sgt DSS players-the Lts are not handling desk sgt duties- and will be just as unprepared to do so in Jan 2013.
Will be interesting to see which lawsuit alleging lack of oversight hits it big first- arrest or inventory or bonding--and which "acting out of grade" member takes the fall.

LAPD under Willie Wilson had the detective cars painted black and white with the city's logo on the side, no strobe lights on top. This was a way of giving the understaffed department higher visibility. It pretty much failed, and was universally hated by the dicks who said one of the big things about being a dick was you didn't get flagged down constantly, and that tended to happen to the "slickbacks," as they were known. This Potemkin village stuff is BS. I was against hiring more cops and have since changed my mind.

Also the cameras are BS and don't make any of us safer. I caught a BS citation recently, apparently I didn't sufficiently come to a complete stop before turning right on red, $100 and total BS. A human being cop would never have written it. Do they have some bean counter looking at the videos?

There are about 9 POLICE FORENSIC INVESTIGATORS (D-3 Phone call hacks) (HK, MO, Rugai's niece silly Jilly) still on the sheets. Once they're gone, that's it. They shot themselves in the foot by taking (STEALING) 10-20 hours of unquestioned OT for years D-3 pay, to do what an E T does in an eight hour shift after already handling a garage burglary and an aggravated battery. Two ET's handle the same job and turn out quality reports and photography in 1/20th of the time, take a look at those numbers at the next COMPOST MEETING McMellon Head....... As for "keeping us busy" LOL!!! Yeah, that won't happen either, guess what- there are an infinite number of witnesses that could be interviewed or re-interviewed. All that will happen is the dets will just cover their tracks better and write more paper but if you think the homicide guys that draft 20 page reports will be writing Parker's and GOCR you don't understand what we do. As a detective, it's your job to verify all of that information. If you rely on information from patrol officers, then shame on you. Not that they don't do a good job 99% of the time, they do. And if you aren't happy with the work they do, then maybe you should give them a little guidance--all of the guys/gals in patrol I've met are willing to learn.

You idiot. With the caseload I have, I don't have time to do more than make a phone call and suspend the case. Shopping? Are you kidding? Lunch? Are you kidding? I think since the merge I've had lunch out ONCE. And that's because my partner and I were waiting for a witness to come in. I bring lunch to work and half the time--no, most of the time, I don't even eat it. We keep getting cases assigned even if we are tied up on something for two days--so then you are even further behind. One day I got 3 copies of my late list in my mailbox.

I don't understand the animosity. Your view of what we do and the conditions we work under are wrong. And as far as leaving the D-Unit and going back to patrol, why would anyone do that? Give up the small increase in pay to go to a position where working conditions are as bad or worse? Grow up and quit hating. It's unbecoming.

I am a patrol officer and I totally agree with the Det who listed all the screwed up stuff on case reports. Some cops just don't understand that the report they are writing is going to have a life after they sign their name. It should always be written with the next segment of the investigatory chain in mind. Some cops forget that. Forgive us...
