Look! Over There! No, Not Here

  • Two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were wounded in separate South Side shootings, Chicago police said.

The unnamed teen was standing in a vacant lot in the 10700 block of South Perry Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood at about 10:30 p.m., when a shot rang out and he was struck in the left knee, police said, citing early reports.

No, no, no. Look at the north side. Look at the suburbs. Hey, you're looking south again, aren't you?

  • Two young girls were injured Tuesday night in a shooting at Cooper Park on the city's Far South Side.

The girls, ages 12 and 13, were wounded shortly before 8 p.m. on the 1300 block of West 117th Street in the West Pullman neighborhood, said police.

Preliminary reports said the girls were inside the park when shots rang out and they were struck.
Remember, we're a "Welcome City."

On the bright side, these kids are going to rock the "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" essays back at school....if the teachers don't strike.

Surely you jest, SCC.

12, 13 and 14 year old CPS prodigies writing essays?

The majority of CPS stalwarts "Out Souff" are considered 'gifted' if they know their alphabet at those ages.

With very few exceptions, consider it the Quintessential Oxymoron that the majority of CPS' "academies", "magnets", "charters" and "gifted" schools populate ghetto neighborhoods.

These snazzy titles are little more than a means to procure additional grants, monies and goods that will be misdirected and misplaced (stolen) by the usual connected suspects; creating a sense of importance and elitism is part of the diversionary tactic to accomplish their end game.

Ariel Investments President To Succeed Maggie Daley

Ariel Investments President Mellody Hobson on Tuesday was named the new chairman of After School Matters, the charity co-founded by the late Chicago First Lady Maggie Daley and former Chicago Cultural Affairs Commissioner Lois Weisberg.

The group has been without a chairman since Daley's death from cancer in November. Also on Tuesday, Daley's daughter, Nora Daley Conroy, joined the group's board of directors and her son, Patrick Daley, joined its advisory board.

These are the last in a string of signals that former Mayor Richard M. Daley and his children intend to treat After School Matters as Maggie Daley's legacy.

Is that the Ariel that is on our Deferred Comp list? It was doing well, not so much now. I wouldn't tough it with a ten foot pole. The stink of the Daley family corruption is enough to scare me away.

12, 13 and 14 year old CPS prodigies writing essays?

--------------------------------

Well we can all joke about how bad the CPS prodigies are now. However the joke may be on us as we have to live with the consequences in the future.

I don't know if these kids that got shot were members of a gang or not but imagine the impact on every 12, 13, 14 year old classmate of theirs that maybe are trying to be good students.

You think they want to go to school traveling through these gang turfs with the lead flying? How in the hell can you concentrate on your studies knowing that you have to walk home through this shit. The mayor don't give a damn. The alderman don't give a damn. They're blowing money on bringing more illegal immigrants in and building parks with jogging paths and bird sanctuaries that the people neither asked for or that the taxpayers can afford.

Sure, we can laugh it up now. Wait until this age cohort is either unemployable, working a part-time min-wage job that requires aid to survive, or a life of black market activities. There's not going to be much money in the cities slush fund for pensions, health care, public services. The only reason we are getting by today is because we borrow the money and kick the can down the road. There will be a limit to the number of new credit cards the city can get to pay off all the old loans and debts and I happen to think that the time is sooner than we all think.

From the Huffington Post:

"The record "is hard to argue with: at least 14 full-blown terrorist attacks have been prevented or failed on (Comm.) Kelly's watch."
The figure has been cited repeatedly in the media, by New York congressmen, and by Kelly himself. The NYPD itself has published the full list, saying terrorists have "attempted to kill New Yorkers in 14 different plots."
As Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in March: "We have the best police department in the world and I think they show that every single day and we have stopped 14 attacks since 9/11 fortunately without anybody dying."
But,
"...government informants played a significant or dominant role (by, for example, providing money and fakes bombs to future defendants); four cases whose credibility or seriousness has been questioned by law enforcement officials...skeptical federal officials declined to bring charges; and another four cases... not pursued beyond discussion.
In addition, the NYPD itself does not appear to have played a major role in breaking up most of the alleged plots on the list. In several cases, it played no role at all...."
Oh those words sound so familiar from Commish Kelly & Mayor Bloomie.
This is GMac-NYPD style. Preventing crime, pad the numbers, showboat to the press.
Now you know the rest of the story, guess no Fed wanted the NATO / Bridgeport beer brewer case either.

Anybody know how person was injured at beach last night between 7:30- 8pm just south of Fullerton Beach Grill? Middle-aged or older, petite, white woman w. light red shoulder-length hair, nice attire- street clothes. She was being helped by Bike Officer and citizen? The 3 of them were on the big boulders on west side of path. She had gash to upper back of her skull that was bleeding pretty good. She was seated/didn't appear to be injured elsewhere. She was transported via ambulance approx. 20 min. later.

Was this result of accident or attack from behind? Kind of hard to imagine it was caused by fall but maybe. Waves were up and over seawall-pre-last night's riptides.

Mayor Rahm says :

"AAR Corp., an aviation-parts manufacturer in the Chicago area, has 600 openings for welders and mechanics but can't find skilled workers to fill them."

Well guess what?

If the 800 Caterpillar mechanics and welders that are on strike are not good enough I would suggest looking at Lockeed Aircraft cause OH LOOK!!

UPDATE 1-Lockheed Martin cuts workforce by 740 employees

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/10/lockheedmartin-jobcuts-idUSL3E8IA55020120710

Now to be fair some of these layoffs at Lockheed could be in the computer field which if that is the case than we can just direct them to the 9,000 so-called computer science workers that the illegal immigrant sanctuary city will need someday according to Rahm.

This aviation stuff is so 20th century and we need people with 21st century skills. That's why we encourage the illegal immigrants to come in and create the jobs....like drug distribution and human trafficking and such. 21st century skill sets.

Are you referring to the unemployable,part-time working, minimum wage earning, parents that requires aid to survive and supplements "HER" income with a life of black market activities, that are raising these victims/offenders.
Unfortunately for both us and them the reality of the situation is most of those "parents" in the hood lack the skills to raise their kids properly.
So I agree with you, the next generation will be worse than the previous and so on and so on.
I do know this much though, it won't be for lack of resources or opportunities. We , the income and property taxpayers not the liquor and cigarette taxpayers, have thrown countless dollars at them via social programs and just plain cash and have nothing to show for it but a worse person than their "parent".

SCC did you hear about San Bernadino California filing for bankruptcy? All city employee salaries have been reduced to MINIUM WAGE! How far behind do you think The city of Chicago and the State of Illinois is from doing the same thing to us?

OT........Two groups of mood disorders are broadly recognized; the division is based on whether the person has ever had a manic or hypomanic episode. Thus, there are depressive disorders, of which the best-known and most researched is major depressive disorder (MDD) commonly called clinical depression or major depression, and bipolar disorder (BD), formerly known as manic depression and characterized by intermittent episodes of mania or hypomania, usually interlaced with depressive episodes.

Another question. As an old retired beat guy who took 3 sergeants tests only to see the scores lowered by the city via, race norming, race banding, and race standardizing (the city's terms, not mine), why did the governor of Illinois sign an Affirmative Action bill today? AA has been practiced by the city since the 1980's. And no, I never got promoted.

You would think that a mayor who needs the police department firmly in his corner as badly as this one needs us would do something to get that department firing on all cylinders and going in the same direction.

Yet there is that mayor doing everything he can to antagonize and alienate that very same police department. Shorthanded so that no one can get time to spend with their families, attack their pensions, give money to the group of criminals that we must arrest, ignore our contract, launch attacks on benefits won over 32 years of hard fought labor battles.

You would think that mayor would be doing something to make friends with us, not turn us into a group 12,500 who hate the sound of his name spoken in public.

And it is us who he looks at each morning as he rises to go to the gym and then to work. It is us who safeguards his family and drives his children to school and summer camp.

And it is us that he uses as poster children for all that ails the city as he takes unannounced trips to Springfield to lobby for cuts to our pensions.

It is truly hard to believe what a totally arrogant prick this jagoff of a mayor is to the one group of city employees that he needs on his side more than any other.

Unless you were born yesterday, you all know what to do, right? This jerk needs to be made to look bad, both often and publicly.

I don't think that the sanctuary city is far behind at all. I thought that the min wage thing was for the coppers in Scranton PA though?

$7.35 or something per hour. So now you're saying we have at least two cities where cops are being paid the same wage as a McDonalds drive-up window order processing technician.

Why does the media insist on calling this "gun violence" this is not gun violence this is GANG violence. Maybe if the CPD had a real anti gang unit like CRASH or SOS. We need more officers on the streets and officers who's only goal is to lock up or put down these thugs.

7/11/2012 05:03:00 PM

In Shitcago Guns are bad, they are the root of all evil, if only we could pass some laws to outlaw the evil guns we could reduce the Black Gang Violence, but hey why would the media here tell the truth. Besides psst we have a Gun problem not a Gang problem city hall said so.

What is is about "welding" that bothers him so? He doesn't know anything about that either, but he's been going on about it for months now.

Spends all day here echoing people's stuff back, with this "union" and "workers" angle thrown in, thinks it's going to cleverly bring the police over to the Communist side somehow so they won't arrest his pro-tes-ters.

NATO IS OVER.

What's ironic is, no one has to 'do' anything to make him look bad; he's doing it all by himself.

You can't lead from Eagle River, Wisconsin. You can't lead from weekly jaunts home to D.C. You can't lead from the gym. Normally, I'd say you have to be present and hands-on. In his case, he simply can't lead.

He never learned to lead. He only learned to grab enough power to be able to BULLY, and he thought that meant he was successful. It did not, however, imbue him with LEADERSHIP ability. "I'm the ONLY one on the planet who knows what's right for you peasants" is NOT leadership.

Hey SCC get this right now in area south the offender who shot the two girls leaving the park had through the hard work of fugitive apprehension unit been set to turn himself in. Now because of political considerations and rumor of a little cash to dad Cease fire is going to accompany the offender to area south in fro t of prearranged news cameras. The guys who worked this and beat the bushes to get this guy are getting sent away so some felon can say he talked this guy into surrendering. The offender had nowhere to go he k we he was. Sing chased his family was cooperating and now for some quick cash and good press the police are being told to walk away. God help us. Please stay safe back each other up and remember the brass will sell you down the river just to make political points.

Seriously, why can't the parents be held accountable for their children? If you live in an area that has this much violence and shooting why, for the love of God do you let your kids roam the streets? Is it because you do not care or that your darlings are the ones that are just waiting to take the place of the last shooter? It is total BS to blame the area. Blame yourselves for not caring enough about your honor students out without an adult presence. Raise your own children. Stop letting them roam the streets then cry crocodile tears when they are hurt due to your own neglect.

Commander Walsh is now turning this arrest into a media circus just to look good for the news camera's. Cease Fire uses money from the $1.2 mil to pay for a lawyer to turn this guy in.
Now they (005) want to do the "old perp walk" in front of the news camera's which could turn back on us and bite us in the ass big time. WATCH AND SEE WHAT COMES OUT OF THIS!

WOW Cease Fire pays a lawyer with money from the city to have a guy turned in for a shooting. Then they have a big news conference at the area atrium with the bad guy, lawyer and cease fire.
Outstanding job 9.5, using the city money to get offenders off the street. How come cease fire didn't do anything to stop the shooting when it happened. We KNOW cease fire was in the area when the shooting occurred, but did they do anything to stop it?
Great arrest you guys in 005 Tact who worked the case, great job! ? ?

Actually I love this blog. I have nothing but respect and love for the hard working police officers of the city. I also know the culture you are speaking of. Having spent years in the area teaching I know all too well the culture. I was making an observation. When I spoke of area I meant the physical place, buildings, parks, etc. No place is bad. It is the caring or non-caring of the individuals who live in the place that make up a community and neighborhood. Sorry if I made it sound confusing. It really angers me to see the city I have called home my whole life turned into scenes from "Escape from New York". Hope this clarifies.

Clarified.

And your original comment would make absolute sense if you were referring to a normal, civilized society, but the key ingredients of a normal, civilized society, which are the fifth and eighth words of your original post, are missing in certain areas and should be listed on a milk carton.
