Undocumented immigrants who witness crimes or are victims themselves would have nothing to fear from Chicago Police— and no excuse to avoid cooperating with them — under a mayoral plan unveiled Tuesday that united former political adversaries.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Chicago) joined forces to unveil the so-called “Welcome City” ordinance, which would prohibit police from detaining undocumented immigrants unless they are wanted on a criminal warrant or have been convicted of a serious crime.
“If somebody has a criminal background, I want ‘em in jail or out of the city. If you’re an immigrant and you have no criminal background, I don’t want that to be prohibitive from you contacting the police,” Emanuel told a news conference at Little Village High School.
Um, they have an unenforced criminal charge on their background already idiot - THEY'RE ILLEGAL. But hey, it isn't like they're keeping the "official" unemployment rate in the 8.2% range and the actual rate well above 15% while they bankrupt cities, counties and states across the nation.

We need to be careful of the images that are conjured up when we use that word "Sanctuary" now don't we?
Some may see that word sanctuary and think of it with it's implied negativity.
For example giving sanctuary to a felon.
Now how can the word "Welcome" imply anything bad? So we'll use that instead.
Nevertheless the illegal immigrants can and will use 'the children" just like the political apparatus uses "the children" as tools.
You are blessing the felons ticket to entry while spitting on the laws and your oath to uphold the US constitution.
A fine example of a failed "Broken Windows" crime methodology that your top cop preaches.
Let "the children" in ...next it's but don't break up the families. We can't break up the families. Ergo the illegal immigrants are granted sanctuary by using the children and the anchor babies regardless of criminal background.
This creates the crime culture of violence here and the blood is on your hands and any of the alder-a-holes that endorse this action.

I have a theory.
Granting illegal immigrants sanctuary here lowers the REPORTED violent crime rate.
If a thug knows that an illegal immigrant is less likely to report a crime, then that creates an attractive target for the criminal.
If the crimes then shift away from legal residents to the illegal residents and since the 911 call is never made by the illegal resident crime is down even thought the crimes are still occurring at or above the current rate.
What we have just done by granting sanctuary to illegals is that we created a zone of impunity for the criminals to operate in -- a culture of violence.
If you're an illegal immigrant and you get sick of being the crime victim what do you do yo protect yourself? Well the alternative is to join a gang. So there you have it.

I.C.E. under the Obama Administration has been told to not cooperate with CPD unless it is a high profile case. They (I.C.E.) are under heavy pressure and do not want to appear to be racist. Just like DEA used to say they will not involve themselves unless the case had a specific weight, I.C.E. has been intimidated to stay away from CPD cases. If you doubt me, call them and you'll see.

Brother I agree with most of the stuff you post, but on this one I got to tell you I love low prices at the grocery store! Yes we have illegals with criminal records and yes they should be deported. But the truth is that we as a nation cannot afford to get rid of a large and extremely cheap work force of illegal immigrants. I keep hearing "they take American jobs" what jobs? I don’t see Americans lining up to pick produce or wipe tables or clean dishes. If we get rid of them then we have to pay full wage and benefits to millions of American workers who will not do the job for anything less and then what happens to the owners of the farms and restaurants? They go nuts because cost will skyrocket. A fucking pack of strawberries will be a week’s pay!
Depart the assholes but keep the cheap labor, that’s what we have to figure out. Besides every group in this country has to get shitted on for a while. Scub Inc. that had the contract at O'Hare to clean the terminals was sued for race discrimination by the EEOC. Scrub was fined $5 million for discriminating against African Americans. Their work force was Mexican and Polish, their collective knowledge of English was severely limited.
The City Custodians were overwhelmingly African American and were doing an excellent job. They could communicate effectively regarding maintenance issues. It's shameful that they were displaced and later discriminated against by this contractor. Even though it wasn't glamorous work, it was a City job with benefits.

Does anyone ever stop and think about the fact that America functioned just fine before the influx of illegals? When I was growing up, the only illegals I saw were picking tomatoes at Kohlers Farm in Roselle, IL. I know this because my folks made me ride my bike there and work at the vegetable stand starting at 14 years old. There were no illegals mowing lawns, working behind counters, working at restaurants or doing construction. And HARK, the country prospered! This was in the early 1960's tho before the whole "live and let live" crap started.
ICE is still doing there job in this city. I've had a numbers of cases at 26/Cal where the defendant has failed to show and a quick search on ICE inmate locator shows them in custody awaiting deportation.
I suppose your father was one of the first indians here therefore making us all "illegal" you coward assholes post this up. It is a false belief to think that somehow our society "benefits" from the possible, occasional "low prices" we may encounter due to an illegal immigrant's low wages being part of the equation of the price we pay for a given item or service.
Over their lifetime, each illegal immigrant costs the taxpayers over $100,000 maybe twice that - in the social services that they and all of their relatives living here will receive (education, E.R. medical treatment, housing and food benefits, etc.) but will never pay for. It is because of this (largely), illegal aliens working for low cash wages, but still receiving tens of thousands of dollars worth of social services, that is bankrupting cities in the Southwestern area of our country. San Bernardino is bankrupt. The entire state of California is flooded with illegals that are destroying it. Several hospitals in the Southwest shut down and closed their doors permanently, because of the "free" medical care they were forced to provide to illegals, per federal mandate.
Lots of illegals working for cash, paying no taxes, but RECEIVING tons of goodies from the government. NO, they are not a benefit to our society, in the long run. They are here in such huge numbers, they are greatly contributing to the economic destruction of America.
And yes, as a human Soul and a Christian, I have empathy for their plight - I don't blame them one bit for coming here - I blame the government for refusing to take legal action against them, refusing to deport them, and refusing to seal our borders.

As I understand it, while it is indeed a crime to cross into the US without abiding by the lawful procedures for doing so, it is not actually a crime to remain here.
In fact, if you are a citizen you are just as illegal if you do not pass through immigration on your way back home as any other "illegal".
Rewarding illegal immigrants with citizenship is akin to hi-fiving a home invader.
