Look What I Found!

This is great:
  • got a bud that works in 011 said the Supe and his driver came in last nite to do the Ch 7 interview. when they did the Supes driver tells the desk people they need paper and inv done on a pistol the Supe found in a liquor store in 011 otw to station. driver produces empty pistol from his waistband - no mag or rounds. driver goes on to say that they went thru 3 mutts leaving the store and then released them when they found nothing on them, then they go into store and find pistol.
desk person asks if they contact carded the 3 mutts. "NO". asks if they wrote down license info and names, etc of owners/workers present. "NO". asks why they didnt preserve gun to be printed, driver says something like "WE HAD TO GET HERE FOR THIS" (Ch 7 interview). diff desk guy says something like "so this is an integrity check direct from the Supe's office"? McPilgrim does the interview and mentions how he "recovered" the gun himself.

    DOES ANYONE BELIEVE THIS SHIT???

if legit, he and his driver fucked up basic police work and procedure espec with all the gun violence and all they preach and scream about at Compost mtgs. kind of like walking on shell casings at a crime scene! if a try to see if the officers that got stuck handling paper did it square, then what a crock of shit. and if an orchestrated ploy to play to the media and sheep, then someone needs to be outed as a complete jagoff and phony. can anyone confirm this story?
We believe it 100%. It's very typical of a politician playing police officer.

He needs to go.

They should have said three things: chain of custody.
Give the driver the required paperwork and walk him around the corner to the interview room.

But if the sup had an interview, why did he stop at a liquor store? Doesn't add up and at same time makes perfect sense.

If true, this is comical. If that was any blueshirt and they did not have an e.t. recover the firearm, they would probably be looking at a minimum of a reprimand, maybe even a day. Not even an inkling of chain of custody here. Or the poster is right on with the hoping the poor schmuck that gets saddled with doing the report and inventory makes a mistake or cuts corners and catches a rule 14. Oh yeah, did the super supe have his vest on since he conducted a street stop and field interview? Not that I care either way, but his whole new york, this is the way we did it in jersey, atitude is bullshit! We ain't in new york and we ain't in jersey. This is CHICAGO motherfucker. This department was for the most part great, and it will be great again as soon as you get your walking papers chump!

“NEVER WASTE A CRISIS”

Our streets are running red with blood, decent law abiding people can’t walk the streets at night in safety, the city is bankrupt and that midget tyrant mayor gives away a million dollars of our tax money to a bunch of drug dealing thugs for a kickback!

Just think how many badly needed police and firemen could be hired with that money?

Everyone in the city should call their useless Aldermen and demand answers. Their phones should never stop ringing.

Consider it confirmed and almost verbatim as I was working desk that day. A News Affairs PO came rushing into station at approx 1825 hrs and said how his Sgt told him to beat feet to 011 to be present for this interview which was supposed to be at 1845 hours. No one in 011 was notified of this nonsense. The guy from News Affairs was our only way of knowing what was coming. Sure as shit the Channel 7 News van rolls up minutes later, followed by McCarthy and future merit sergeant driver sidekick a couple minutes later. FMSDS comes in first with his story of how it all went down and that they needed report generated and gun inventoried. Mccarthy then pops in to take a piss preinterview and shoots the shit with desk crew until the cameras and reporter are ready for him to talk about the latest and greatest policing strategy to come along this week. He does - as predicted - make mention of how "we just recovered a gun on the way to do this interview" or something to that effect [ I couldn't stomach watching the news after witnessing this bullshit firsthand]. About the only......ONLY redeeming quality of McCarthy on this visit was that he was actually quite personable and traded rips with a coworker. J-Fled NEVER even acknowledged the desk people on more than one occasion as he walked by them. Didnt even pick his head up or make eye contact with them.

I smelled bullshit that night and the other guys did too. We lucked out when a sergeant working that special violence thing volunteered to have his guys handle it. Otherwise I call this a setup/staged media stunt. Pathetic.

Ok, so I did the paper and the Super did recover a found weapon after conducting a field interview. The story is verified by the store and security guard. Who cares why he stopped, my guess would be the number of thugs standing outside. The bottom line is that he's trying to do a good job but no matter what he does someone has something negative to say. He's done more than most bosses. You don't have to like him, he was hired to take the heat off of the mayor. That's what all superintendents are hired for. As for was he wearing his vest it appeared to be under his long sleave uniform shirt. He also appeared to be wearing 80/20's. Look I don't work for him or know him but give the guy a break he appears to just want to be a cop. And who hasn't done a contact card on every person they stopped during a tour

Never mind that "a driver" only appears to be the police and a superintendent is usually a political hack.
Everyone should know that if for some reason you can't handle a particular assignment or on-view, you call for another car or the tact team. Then theres a Priority on-view which supersedes the Misc task or duty bs "hold me down in the station". That's day 4 in the Academy.
And what's the General Order say about Weapons and Evidence? That's day 7 in the Academy.

Here's the deal with the Supe, social media, and contact cards: McCarthy is huge proponent of the legitimacy work by sociologist Andrew Papachristos a Yale, and his additional research on socialization of crime and victims, i.e. that all future violence can be predicted if you understand the social connections between victims and future offenders. This is why there is such a HUGE emphasis on contact cards. They are attempting to very quickly create a huge database that shows all connections between people(gangsters) and locations. So if Pookie gets dead, they can see everyone who hangs with the former Pokie and where they hand with. They can then reach out in some manner to those people to prevent them from retaliating. You will see a very concerted effort that involves the DOC and teams in this process as a new post-shooting plan. It's coming soon - there will be detailed plans on post-shooting responsibilities for responding supervisors, and the plan's success hinges on this database of 'social connections' created through contact cards.

Ah ha! Thank you so much, great post!

I watched -- was it Deutsche Welle, German Broadcasting, I think the "European Journal" show? They had a segment on this sort of thing being done in the Netherlands. The housing projects (oh yes!) they have built are full of young, jobless men direct from Africa -- tremendous crime rate.

One of these "troubled teens" can tie down about seven earnest "social workers", shrinks, etc. for half a day.

Every week, "intervening," interviewing him. "Have you cut down on the ganja smoking?"

"Oh, yes, yes."

"You were smoking five spliffs every day the last time we talked. How about today?"

"Oh, maybe four spliff every day."

*

No change, still stealing car radios, etc. Then the whole learned panel sits down and they go around and around for hours, the file folder on him getting thicker and thicker.

Then they drive home, maybe without a radio in their car...

It's enough to make you cry.

Our district (which I won't call out) is the same. Secretary, asst secretary, citations, stats, court, and pregnant.

why they didnt preserve gun to be printed,
You find a weapon and want it printed. Why??

Okay, Garry, we'll explain it to you. We fingerprint a weapon to determine who has touched it. And we do ballistics on it to determine if it's been used in a crime, or crimes. And then, just maybe, we get to solve a crime or two, and put a bad guy away and give some victim's family closure, to boot.

Almost as clever as the tic-tac team who responded last weak to a suicide by gunblast in a River Norf condo-- these 018 District stalwarts graciously volunteered to recover four other guns found onscene so the E.T. didn't have to -- pad those stats, baby.

I've been gone for awhile but this was recovered in a licensed establishment. Who checked and recorded all of the licenses? Supervisor no longer needed and Lt. signing off on the licenses being current and valid? If not the job sure has gotten easier!

Haha, yeah I'm sure he waited until a LT from days showed up. Where I work we haven't had one in months. TRRs have also gone down too because who wants to have to wait until the days LT shows up and is crabby because he/she has to deal with headaches right off the bat. I'm not saying they don't get done but coppers with families are a bit more hesitant to go hands on now more than ever because they want to get home to take care of their families instead of waiting until 8 am to get a TRR approved

Check the liquor store for video. Which of the three mopes placed the gun there? (if any) Did they really recover the weapon there? What if that gun was used in a shooting or homicide? Who will answer questions? Do your own paper work, not someone else's.

Isn't it a violation of some order somewhere to detain three people and NOT do contact cards on said three people? Check their names for warrants? What was the reasonable suspicion for stopping said three honor students? People on this job have taken time for not doing contact cards. I hope the honor students recognized who stopped them and file suit. That would be interesting.

Can someone please tell the reading audience the last time fingerprints were lifted off a gun? It doesn't happen! That is CSI shit. The Illinois State Crime lab sends its lab people to court on high profile cases to tell juries that fingerprints are hardly ever taken from firearms, so why would you think the lab would process a weapon found with garbage. It won't happen. Also, try to get an ET to come and recover a weapon that is "found property.". Lile that's going to happen. RIGHT!!!

Umm, just watched the news on NBC5 and they covered Rahm's new crime strategy of targeting "trouble" businesses where gang crime often occurs. It was a short blip, but they did mention how two guns were recovered from these very businesses in the last few days. The Supe's "recovered" handgun makes a stronger case for this latest strategy. Sure would like to see convenience store video of this "recovered" handgun.

As an ET, I can tell you that prints do come off of guns, just not in Cook County. They can come off of shells in mags or still in the revolver too, but again, not in Cook county. In other areas where people get the service they pay for, the job gets done. Unfortunately, in Chicago they would have to open up a couple dozen more crime labs to keep up with the bullshit of the savages.

* District always gets the credit for the gun recovery, it's just processed by ET, inventory can be made out by anyone in another's po's behalf. Same applies to K9 apprehensions.
They're support Units.
Tic-Tac teams sometimes like the easy stuff inept crossword wizards and dvd hounds fear. It's their numbers that make DC's a Compfstäffe Celebrity.
The bs here is 4 guns recovered by someone who was probably a law abiding foid carrying taxpayer. Those 4 guns will be on display at GMac's annual open house- "look at all the guns we taken off the streets so kids can play outside after 11pm at the candy tent event".
Yes it's a padded statistic. The stuff merit dreamers are made off.

Wow!! It took until the 86th comment for someone that actually knows that prints are almost NEVER recovered from a gun. We used to have Sgts that wanted et's to recover guns during a foot chase. I always told them that my EYES are all that was needed. I saw shithead throw gun; I recovered same. VERY easy testimoy in front of jury.

No prints are going to be recovered from a gun unless involved in a serious offense... at that a detective has to order it, and good fucking luck with that!
