Police Shooting

  • A Chicago police officer shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at him after the officer and his partner chased the man for a few blocks in the Greater Grand Crossing area this morning, police and a union spokesman said.

The shooting took place a little after 5 a.m. in the 500 block of West Winneconna Parkway, when a man pointed a gun at a Gresham District officer who then shot him, according to a news release from police.

[...] The officer and his partner were on patrol, in uniform and in a marked squad car, when they saw a man running west on 79th Street near Vincennes Avenue, with a gun in his waistband
79th Street? Again? Didn't Weis-inger say we were going to shut that avenue down?

Wheres CPD Media Affairs? Why is the FoP making statements? Even I recognize the conflict of interest and lack of credibility of a police union commenting on a police shooting.

The article was weird. Didn't say allegedly had a gun, and no interviews with Pookie's play cousins and play mama's on how he "didint have no gun" and how the polices kilt him for no reason, and how they saw the whole thing. Are the sheep finally starting to get that the animal is and has been out of control with the aid of the liberals and the anti police media. I guess having a bunch of people attacked by the savage downtown is finally waking some of them up. Go figure.

It felt refreshing but shocking to finally read an article regarding CPD shooting written with major ring of reality to it- I noticed Frank Main co-authored.
Maybe the pendulum is swinging back to honest reporting here. Now if a brave reporter actually reported the truth every time there is a racial hate crime by black ghetto trash against outnumbered whites, asians and hispanics, I might buy a paper for first time in years. could you imagine sitting with a Chicago newspaper and actually reading real news? cuppa steaming joe alongside? How long has it been?

(OT) Very Important! My wife got laid-off from her job of 34 years, and went to bank of America to talk to some financial guy about moving her investments from the company that laid her off to bank of Americas investments! wife TOLD HIM i WAS IN DEFERRED COMP AND THE FIXED "CHICAGO BLENDED OPTION" WAS PAYING LIKE 3.65%! The guy tells her because we are in vested with the city of Chicago,we are paid more, and if the city goes bankrupt our money also goes away with bankruptcy? I called deferred comp Friday and could not get a straight answer,i know we have smart people on this blog does anyone know the answer?

IF true this is very scary!! Thanks for any replies,SCC maybe this should be a thread as it is of utmost importance to the coppers who may have a failed pension now this!

7/08/2012 12:12:00 PM

This is absolutely true. That money is NOT yours at this moment. A friend who left the job for the private sector found this out himself and I posted about it a year and a half ago. There is a lot of legalese in the Deferred Comp "contracts" but there is a clause in there that spells it out plain as day. No one bothers to read that far into those things. A bunch of people called me a bunch of names, as usual. Put your fingers in your ears and pretend it's not real. IF this City were to declare bankruptcy, they have no legal obligation to give you one cent of that money back.

Just an FYI for the FOP and any other secret readers of this blog. The commander of 008 is refusing to allow officers the day off for the first annual J. Kupczyk golf outing. The commander expects the overworked troops to pay $80 for a day of golf and food and no libations because they have to come into work right after. The commander was told that he could ask for officers from adjoining districts but refused to do so to accommodate the Officers who actually worked for Kupczyk. The answer to all of this was to move the golf outing to October sometime after the "children" are back in school and the violence settles down...wink wink and maybe then the Officers could get time due but no guarantees were or have been made. This is what passes for leadership in this department. The XO of this district also likes to brag about how he has all this money in deferred comp and how the commander allows him to adjust his schedule to accommodate his family life....how nice! I did not want to take away from the original post but wanted to share this info. Great job by the officers and glad you are ok. Excellent job and keep up your spirits! "The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership." Colin Powell

Swiss cheese boys last words; "Got to get up early when you're about to turn your life around, just don't turn around with a gun in your hand."
And there's this —
What happens when there aren't enough iPhones and Zimmerman is out on bail?
"...men are accused of bailing out of a white stretch
limousine and punching three people, breaking one man's  jaw, in the Lakeview neighborhood as someone with the
attackers recorded the beating, authorities said this morning."
The Trib shows the 4 mugshots, described the limo, but no mention of the victims background.
The Superintendant or the Alderman doesn't want to offend the community.
Now does the University social behavior scientists have an explanation for this or is it just a case of 'blowing off steam" before Taste of Chicago?

"...given the national attention on Chicago's gun violence..."

--7/09/2012 01:01:00 AM

No such thing as "gun violence." It's "violent crime."

Interestingly, there was much less violent crime in Chicago when there were gun stores here. Department stores downtown sold guns. The real Abercrombie and Fitch had them on display in windows at street level on Wabash. You could save S&H Green Stamps until you had enough books for a gun. Hardware stores sold guns. Woolworth's sold guns.

As short as I can make it --

Then, the destruction of our manufacturing base began, and vast demographic and social changes were engineered.

"The Great Society" kicked in. Three crucial pieces of Federal legislation were passed. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Hart-Celler Act of 1965 (tore up immigration quotas).

During this period, large tracts of the cities were burned in massive riots and they will never be the same again. This, along with an explosion of everyday violent street crime, helped pave the way for #3, the Gun Control Act of 1968.

...and here we are.

--7/09/2012 01:27:00 AM

It is going 24/7/365 now, and there are no boundaries.

This is major.

Officer posted here about gang fights on North Avenue Beach at 7:30 AM, girl being hit in the face with a lock, etc.

A local resident reported that she drove down to the Gold Coast at 5 AM, and within thirty seconds of parking there, an arm was clawing through her car window, trying to get her purse.

Another mid-day report of six blacks "terrorizing white women" in Portage Park along Central between Montrose and Irving Park Road -- then commuting back south to the Food Desert on the Central bus.

What do you expect after Mayor Daley kicked over the anthill as a going-away present for us all -- demolishing the housing projects and scattering their contents for fifty miles around?

At the same time, enforcement efforts targeting the leaders of street gangs seem only to have fragmented the gangs and made things even worse. Now you have "leaderless" cliques and factions running wild. God forbid anyone "profile" these criminals -- yet computerized "profiling" is going to save the day, we are told.

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME NOW.

What was that line from Kurt Vonnegut? "Billy Pilgrim has become unstuck in space and time."

"...a man pointed a gun at a Gresham District officer who then shot him..."

This one especially knew what he was up to -- one report said "rubber gloves."

Another mad dog destroyed by the police. Everyone is a little safer now.

Best wishes to the officers involved and their families; the stress and shock and fear rubs off on everyone around. It will bother any normal person. Take it light, talk it down, accept help and remember that a prayer is said for you.

Four or five arrested, mug shots shown on Channel 9 -- these are in their thirties and DANGEROUS. HARD HEADED. Believe it.

Do we get even ONE hate crime prosecution in this whole county -- EVER? This wasn't even robbery -- just sport. They told that driver where to take them.

Emanuel acknowledges aldermen's concerns about shootings

[Gee, that's big of him.]

By Kristen Mack

1:32 p.m. CDT, July 9, 2012

"Mayor Rahm Emanuel today acknowledged complaints from some aldermen about shootings being up in their wards while Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy once again defended his switch to a system centered on beat cops instead of strike forces..."

Emanuel, who was not out in public last week, addressed the aldermanic concerns.

["Not out in public;" is that what you call ten days up at Eagle River when he knows the lid is going to blow off the place on a record-heat, double-weekend-plus-holiday? You little worm. Who paid the freight? It's OK, we don't know where Cong. Jackson is at all.]

"The Buildings Department will set aside $4 million to board up
roughly 200 buildings on the Chicago Police Department's watch list."

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/clout/chi-emanuel-acknowledges-aldermens-concerns-about-shootings-20120709,0,840402.story

"Board up."

We're good for 10 or 15 minutes with that. They will be back in there long before the rain warps the stuff anyway. (Christ, how much chipboard could YOU get for $4 million if you paid straight over-the-counter? Alright, who's the contractor? Is GSSP branching out or what?)

The fall of our society began when socialist Social Workers convinced the legislature that unwed mothers did not have to reveal the name of the father of the child they bore. Without the state enforced child support laws, babies became paychecks.

Males never had to get a job to support their children. And so it shall continue with the irresponsible both benefitting and stuck in a cycle of poverty and misery, resorting to gangs, and crime, and drugs, demanding respect but not even seeking to earn it.

Blame for all the desperation is aimed at an affluent society that can not, and for the most part does not, care about this growing 'underclass'.

Chicago police could add thousands to their bike patrols. The chances of them being on scene when an 85 year old man gets a gun stuck in his face and his car jacked is still slim to none for example.

We need conceal carry laws LIKE EVERY OTHER STATE IN THE UNION!

CPD can't protect us against a force of over 100,000 gang members and you know it... and I know it too.

This "we'll bring the perp's to justice once the video pod cam tapes are reviewed" and the damage is already done is unacceptable.

And the 50 alder-a-holes demand that we not be able to defend ourselves is unacceptable -- while they demand personal 24/7 body guards and drivers! Go to hell.

That goes for the Mayor and the ex-mayor still sucking off taxpayers money.

I can't even walk to the damn grocery store six blocks away without getting hit up three times for: "Hey brah, do you have the time.." as they wait to see if I pull out an I-Phone to check it or am wearing a watch that looks expensive..

It's either that or: "..brah do you have a dollar.." you pull out one and that's the go signal for the stick up as they know that you must have more where that came from.

I'm getting out of this place the first chance I get. Going as far as I can. There's no future here. There's no hope here.

"The Buildings Department will set aside $4 million to board up roughly 200 buildings on the Chicago Police Department's watch list."

==============================

Wow $4 million to board up buildings!

I wanna be the sub-contractor for that job. Who do I have to give a campaign contribution to in order to get it?

That's $20,000 dollars per building for 200 buildings and how long do you think that the boards will stay in place?

7/09/2012 08:16:00 AM

Hmmmm, well to answer the first poster, your money is held and administered by a private company we know as Nationwide Retirement Solutions. They are not owned by the city of Chicago nor is your money managed by any employees of the city of Chicago. The money you have in Chicago Blended Fixed is spread between 3 different entities of varying percentages, two of those entities are the two biggest insurance companies in existence and the least amount is in Chicago bonds. It's currently paying 3.8 I believe and when you retire you are entitled to take EVERY CENT OF YOUR MONEY OUT IN ONE FELL SWOOP IF YOU WISH although you WILL be taxed on your annual income for that year so far PLUS the amount you take from deferred comp which would likely increase your tax liability.

To the second poster, you're wrong, misinformed or misled. Once again, your money in Chicago Blended Fixed is not held by the City of Chicago nor does any of that money belong to the City of Chicago nor can the City of Chicago TAKE or USE YOUR MONEY in the Chicago Blended Fixed account. What COULD happen is that the 20% CURRENTLY invested in the Chicago Bond market is that portion is held as a creditor against the city on your behalf by NRS. IF, and I mean a very very remote IF Chicago filed Chapter 9, only that amount in the fixed option would be held as a credit against the City and a judge would determine the loss spread across ALL creditors of the city, NOT just those who hold CBF funds.

Now take on the thought that Chicago nor Emanuel will EVER file bankruptcy and even then it's likely the State of Illinois would not allow them to file it, because the state has to allow it, the odds are even more removed.

The only event which could cause Chicago to file for Chapter 9 would be a countrywide financial and political dismantling of all government entities. That means that basically all municipal government has filed Chapter 9 and that ALL creditors to every municipality are at a loss.

Not likely, not before everyone would know about it in the country and not before all securities were dumped. Calm down, Emanuel can't afford to file Chapter 9 politically because that puts the books in front of a federal auditor and allows for review by all creditors. Not gonna happen.

Quote from above:

""...men are accused of bailing out of a white stretch
limousine and punching three people, breaking one man's jaw, in the Lakeview neighborhood as someone with the
attackers recorded the beating, authorities said this morning."
The Trib shows the 4 mugshots, described the limo, but no mention of the victims background. "

A little background info from the Libune:

Snip:
Nichols said her son was trying to overcome his troubled past to become a role model and mentor in his Lawndale community. "For this to happen, it starts (the trouble) all over again. It's very disheartening."

"My son was making great strides in his career," she said.

Nichols said there were many men involved in the fight. But the four West Side men are the only ones facing severe charges.

"It was just a brawl," she said. "But they were the only ones arrested. It's so unfair.

Snip: Positivity?? WTF??
"These young men were trying to make a change in their lives. They had difficulties in their pasts. This situation is unbelievable. They did not go out there for this particular incident to happen. They were there doing something positive for themselves."

Pat Herred, a longtime neighbor and friend to the four, said the men had been working recently to improve the community. Edward Robinson was working with the Lawndale Christian Legal Center counseling other young men.

"They were promoting positivity in the neighborhood," she said. "They have been working hard to get their lives back on track. We've had a lot of episodes with our Lawndale youth. These men were working hard to do the right thing."

Scaduto said all four of the men have criminal records.

Simmons was out of jail on bail for a felony cannabis conviction. He has five previous felony convictions, two of them gun-related. He was convicted of possession of a bomb or grenade and also has a felony narcotics conviction on his record. He has a misdemeanor conviction for resisting police.

Donald Robinson was released from prison on Jan. 3, 2012 and was on parole for a felony DUI charge. He has eight felony convictions including narcotics offenses, burglary and an escape charge. He has misdemeanor charges of possession of cannabis and reckless conduct.

Edward Robinson was on parole for aggravated robbery, for which he was sentenced to 7 years. He has previous convictions for armed robbery.

Goffin has a previous gun conviction.

Chicago Tonight 7/9. Carol Marin, alder creatures Beale and Cochran. Beale wants SOS, TRU and MSF to come back. He also wants the OCD Gun unit back. Marin says that SOS was "largely indicted". Really Carol? Not a few officers indicted with a few convictions? Cochran and Beale say that if there are officers who "don't respond to one call in 24 hrs" then they should be in districts where they can help answer the calls there. Marin mentions that the crime is spreading to areas outside of the 8 districts where the problems are the worst. Cochran says (unbelievably) that "yes it is spreading. Boundaries are being infiltrated by people who are in need and they are finding their way to where food is". FOOD? iPods? Apple picking? Beating people up in random fashion? Jump out of the limo and beat people up including an off duty PO?

Beale and Cochran say that the cell phone thefts and beatings drew big responses downtown but that their neighborhoods are not getting served. How many PO's are assigned to 007? And how many to 016? I live in Beverly, nobody's filling a box over here. If you work special where are the PO's sent? Not to 016 that's for sure.

Listening to these people makes me angry. NOBODY will say it. Just dance around the reasons and parse the words. "People in need" my ass. Just a bunch of thugs who want to take advantage of everything that they can, and then blame the world for their situation.

The bad guy was seen running at a full Sprint from the business at approx.79th vincennes the police then observed him putting a black object into his waist band area. The police gave chase, the bad guy got cornered in a back yard when he failed to make the fence. The officer observed the the gun in his right hand and also that he was wearing clear plastic gloves. The officer ordered the bad guy to drop his gun when the bad guy suddenly spun around on the officer. The officer took evasive action and ducted down and quickly changed his position and opened fire. The bad guy was struck 5 times all center frontal mass. In the bad guys possession was a knit hat with holes cut out for the eyes. It was later found out that the bad guy and an accomplice who was later apprehended robbed at gun point the business at 79th vincennes. The accomplice gave a full confession of his involvement to the police. The business had cameras everywhere with good video quality. Everyone on scene did a great job and came together the way the police should. The detectives did a great job at rooting out the second offender courageously. The involved officer was very shaken but held himself together as good as he possibly could. Thank you for being safe thank you for doing a wonderful job god bless you.

He opened by saying that another 20 people were shot in Chicago this past weekend and compared it to Afghanistan. He then said something like and this is what the police chief has to say and played the Pilgrim video. After the segment O'Reilly said, "Gibberish. You gotta problem chief. Deal with it. Since this plays worldwide, McPilgrim is now known internationally as soft in the head.

For those that missed it, O'Reilly replays at 10 pm and 3 am. The segment comes on about 40 minutes in.

Saw this quote from the appointed attorney for the thugs arrested for the attacks near Wrigley: “It seems unlikely they would film themselves committing crimes in the street,” Assistant Public Defender Mike Pannitto said.

Um, no, that doesn't seem unlikely at all -- where has this guy been for the last 10 years? Has he ever heard of the internet? Social media? This is what the thugs do for fun -- they document their attacks and their fights to post for their fellow thugs. "Shooting a rap video" -- LOL. That's a good one. Yeah, everyone knows you attack random people and cops when you're "shooting a rap video." Next thing you know, we'll be hearing that the limo was a mobile candy store selling lollipops in the middle of the night to keep troubled youth off the streets.

For the record, civilian here. I am tired of politicians or law enforcement professionals who have now morphed into quasi-politicians trying to tell us how to solve the crime epidemic in Chicago. Serious question for the men and women of the Chicago Police Department. If you had your druthers, how would you work to solve the crime problem in Chicago. Please take into consideration the budget constraints (real or imagined) and the laws currently on the books. You see the carnage every day. You have the experience or dealing with the criminal element. I really don't want to hear from my fellow citizens who want conceal carry rights or want to carry an 10oz can of bear repellant spray across their chest to chime in. Let's hear from law enforcement. Saw TV -- the victims of the Lakeview attack are all white. One very harmless-looking fellow -- the last who'd be yelling anything at a carload of dangerous thugs -- has messed-up teeth, a split lip, and a broken jaw.

Weirdly, the hospital sent him home like that -- going to fix his jaw later or something. When mine was broken, the fracture was reduced and my teeth wired together right away. Must be some modern money-saving tactic...

Looks like a hate crime to me.

Out of breath and sweat dripping from the foot chase on a hot night, shaking, knees turning to water, yard lights shining in your eyes and everything else ink-black shadows, stuff in the way, people yelling -- and still puts five in the X-ring on a sudden lethal threat.

Riddle me this SCC, if a PO comes into district, say the 014th District, and say a PO identifies himself as such and asks to speak with the DSS because he/she has a problem and needs the assistance of the DSS, but the DSS on 3rd Watch refuses to speak with this PO who is asking for help with a problem and wants to keep it between him/herself and the DSS, and instead sends out the watch secretary to speak with the PO...... So the PO asks for the officers full name and unit yet knows this person is an officer who keeps asking to speak with the DSS regarding a personal problem, goes back to the DSS and says the officer who showed star,ID and gave a first name wants to only speak with the DSS regarding personal problem he/she needs help with the DSS tells the PO to tell this officer seeking help, I'm not going out there.... yes the same LT. Regarding Lt DH, someone needs to contact the EEOC and make a complaint. I don't know what she did this time but I do know she does make the work place a hostile work enviroment. EEOC also mentioned that if the city is aware of her problem and failed to do nothing about it, there is legal action that can be taken. . You got rights just like Pookie. We all have families to go home to and at times have to see the worse, we shouldn't have to come to work and deal with someone like her. 13 th district was able to get rid of her.
