Where's the Diversity?

  • When Mayor Rahm Emanuel convenes meetings of his cabinet, the racial breakdown of those top aides hardly reflects the diversity of the city they serve.

    In a city in which no single racial group makes up more than a third of the population, almost two of every three City Hall department heads is white. Of 30 Emanuel appointees to the highest-ranking city government positions, only five are black, and three Hispanic, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis shows.

    “It’s abysmal,” Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th) says of blacks’ under-representation in the upper ranks at City Hall. “We have talked about it with the mayor, but apparently it has fallen on deaf ears.”

Forget actually having the best qualified people running departments. It's 2012 and so many politicians and the media insist on playing the color game.

I am outraged. I demand diversity in the National Basketball Association. Only 13 percent of the nation is black. No more than one starting player may be black in the NBA.

According to doctor martin luther king junior skin color should not matter.. period!

Judge those by the content of their character. That includes hiring for jobs also.

black leaders need to accept this . And you white guilt people need to accept this also.

If it takes Chicago 10 years to create 9,000 computer worker jobs HP just gave you enough people for the next 30 year for crying out loud!...lol

As Rahm encourages "the children" to attend his community colleges, signing up for I/T classes, getting their money for nothing, I hand you this bit of news...

The job cuts Hewlett-Packard announced in May have begun locally.

The personal computer and printer giant said May 23 it would launch a multiyear restructuring to reduce its workforce by 8 percent, or 27,000 employees.

HP spokesman Michael Thacker confirmed that layoffs were taking place Monday at the company’s Rio Rancho facility as part of the restructuring plan, but said he couldn’t disclose how many people were let go. The cuts are taking place across multiple business lines, he said.

The industry cuts of 27,000 people are taking place today and Ralm says the city will need 9,000 computer people sometime over the next ten years.

Golly gee who's gonna get the better shot. A new community college grad or people with the actual experience...AND what will the other 18,000 laid off HP computer workers do?

To drive down the wages with even more of a glut of skilled workers?

There's no shortage of skilled workers. Stop the lies that going back to school to change professions is the answer while talking about shortages.

Oh poor AAR corp too. They told Rahm they would hire 600 mechanics/machinist/welders today but they just can't find the workers.

Meanwhile as we speak over 800 IAM union workers are on strike at Caterpillar and Cat is hiring scabs without a problem it seems. Cat doesn't appear to fear or see a skilled worker shortage.

Hold them to their numbers/comments.

Make them accountable!!

Call 'em out!!!!

Rahm fears that a strong race/ethnic candidate will rise to defeat him. He would then have to create a shill candidate of the same race/ethnic to split that vote just like he did in the first run for the office. That costs money.

When you have no business being appointed or hired into a position then just play the race card. The liberal media will serve as the propaganda machine and eventually you'll see token appointments to appease the vocal minority. That's why Shitcago is on the verge of collapse. This is exactly why chicago is fucked up. we hire people based on there color....not white.....bc we are afraid of being called racist. So we get a bunch of unqualified lazy fucks working for the city. What do you think the racial make up of the chicago transit authority looks like. Hire the best people for the job I dont think so that will prohibit us from reaching our goal of becoming just like our sister city detroit

Eliminate the "-" from the dictionary and stop confusing your ethnicity with your nationality. If all you have to get you by is the color of your skin, then you are pathetic. Dr King would slap you.

Diversity should include gender but the focus is only on women of color. White women get royally screwed

People complain about jobs but affirmative action is here to help them out. The complainers just like to be loud and hear themselves. They offer nothing constructive.

So either make it equally diverse or get rid of affirmative action all together. I am in favor of getting rid of it. Only the best and brightest should get the jobs.

I mean if Hairston can be an Aldergoof then best qualified doesn't matter. I'm sure there are better qualified people of color that could be aldergoof of the 5th ward.
To that point the same goes for department heads.

The problem is that the best people of any color aren't department heads. Just political stooges and yes men.

The SAO is always geting slammed for not having enough black male ASAs. The problem with that is that when black males become attorneys, they get grabbed up by the higher paying firms. Those who do come to the office get lucrative offers to leave and don't stay long enough to become first chairs or bosses. Why would they stay for the low pay when the prime (affirmative action) jobs are out there.

We had an AA male who was brilliant bright, served in the military and was a college graduate. Another jealous AA male, with clout no doubt, got this guy into trouble and fucked up his chance at promotion. The clouted AA is as stupid as a box of rocks. I've seen a lot of undeserving whites get promoted. Promotions by clout have placed a lot of goofs in management positions. Just saying.....
