McSuburbanite Says "Move Out"
Drawing on his vast experience as a resident of suburban New York, Mc(insert name here) demeans those bitching about the drive to work:
- Interesting that McCarthy is on record at a comstatt meeting as saying that when was a captain in New York, he travelled nearly 2 hours each way to get to work. Consequently, if he did it, we can do it!!!!
But what nobody calls him on is that the 2 hour one way travel time was his choice.... New York police and fire do not have to live in the city. He lived in the burbs with his family.
I too would gladly travel 2 hours to 007 or 011 if it meant I could get my family away from this shithole.
Sounds like a good argument. Maybe McResidency can start the petition in Springfield.

Plus...that was 2 hours to be the Captain of the precinct - so he GOT TO MAKE HIS OWN HOURS. And got CAPTAINS PAY. Captain with 11 years on the job...I've got 9 and have never even been eligible for a FUCKONG PROMOTIONAL TEST.
Lift the residency requirement, it's unconstitutional! The city sucks so bad! I didn't think it would turn to shit as fast as it is, and I don't want to raise my kids here if I can help it. Gotta get rid of residency. We are the last major metropolitan department to have the requirement.
Anyone that willingly adds 50% to the time of a workday commuting to and from that job is an idiot. Maybe driving majority rural areas at highway speeds for the duration might be an exception. Maybe. Otherwise, I've got much more important things to do with my time. Like family and friends.
Only LOSERS live, breathe, eat, sleep, and shit any job, especially one as stressful as law enforcement. Now add in the fact that clueless, soulless motherfuckers will allow themselves to be belittled on a regular basis to keep their positions - like our current Gold Star Bosshole roster - and it really makes you scratch your head. No thanks. I'll push this beat car until the day I drop my papers and retain my manhood in the process. I'll answer to no one other than the Big Guy upstairs.
You go drive 2 hours each way, McMileage. I'll be home in 20 minutes with the worst of traffic, enjoying my family. Something you can't routinely do when yours is 800 miles away because you're the latest puppet in the Chicago Kabuki Theater.
Oh yeah..well how's that family life of yours working out with that 2 hour drive. Let's hear it. The quality time vs quantity time bullshit? Good luck with that career cuz you don't have a home life and when the clouted ones are done with you they won't hesitate to kick you in the azz. You will never-ever get back those missed opportunities with the kids and family.
Does Sandi Jackson really live in D.C. and commutes here once a week?
This guy is an Asshole!! Of course, i too would drive 2 hours into work if I could live in Indiana or Grundy county or out of this FUCKED up city and county.
never happen, and the truth of the matter is how many clout babies would move and miss out on their perks of working in special units. house cats.etc, just a thought.
OT: Today, JJJr's mommy stated her son is stressed because he has suffered 'enormous disappointment'.
"He thought he was going to be a senator. He thought he was going to have a chance to run for mayor. And young people don't bounce back from disappointment like me and my husband." (She seems to be admitting JJSr expected similar political offices and handled his disappointment better than junior.)
And that, I suppose, makes it all okay. Me, I'm pretty disappointed, too; I always thought I'd grow up to be the emperor of this hemisphere. Dammit, I deserve it, because I was born to it. It was supposed to be mine, MINE. MINE!!!!
This is what happens when you raise your kid with a sense of complete entitlement. They suffer delusions of grandeur and the fall from that nonexistent pinnacle is a rude one. Why, he might have to get a real JOB soon. And buy his suits off the rack. Oh, the cruelty of it all!!!
fuck this outsider
McHenry's lookin' pretty good about now.
I'll take that drive daily.
Better yet, pay me captains pay and ill gladly drive 2 hrs. By the way did that include a take home car????
Adjusted for inflation I'm gonna say gas costs about 3 times as much now as then. And did he have a company car? He was paying less in taxes because he got to live in any county that touched the 5 counties of NYC. He could have lived in north Orange County if he wanted where for the price of a 3 bed 2 bath in 016 you could have 4 beds, 3 baths on a couple acres with great schools and no crime.
Lift residency now!!!!
Back in my day, in new York, my commute was 2 hrs. Each way. Uphill both ways. It would snow every day and sometimes the heat wouldn't work in the Town Car. You have it easy here in Chicago. You get to live in the city that screws you over. Hey, pass the mustache wax and Budweiser over here. -McSuburbanite
Fine with me, I will move to Wauconda faster than you can say "Let's go fishing."
A wise man once said, if you give a man a fish he will eat for a day. If you teach a man how to fish he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

And I thought I would at least have made sergeant by now. 27 years at an entry level position but I have learned to appreciate the rank of Patrolman for Life, really I have.
94 days left. I am smiling at work again, I bought my retirement car. I might even take the little lady out someplace. I will have off the entire winter and Christmas season. We will travel and see the grandchild on her first birthday. Life is getting better already. And I don't giver the slightest shit about Jesse Jackson Jr.
What a monumental Jagoff.
it took me 1.5 hours to drive home yesterday - thanks mc GASHOG - and what a difference clsoing all the northside areas has made - I heard the murder rate has gone way down - and those victims - they LOVE long commutes to courts, just love it
I would gladly live outside of the city- no question about it. Has anyone ever thought though what would happen in our contract negotiations years down the road though, when they try to completely fuck us and no cops, firemen, or their families live in the city to fight back with votes?
I've asked the glorious leaders of the fop if they are ever going to bring this to the table and they always give me the same response, we can only focus on the pension right now. Worthless slugs.
Living in this city sucks and it has nothing to do with being on this job (douche - west side inside). If you want to live here have fun. Personally, and I believe a good majority, especially po's with kids, don't want to live here. 10's of thousands for private school, the gang bangers and crack heads who are now my neighbors the pods bum sticking his head in your window asking for change at every intersection. You can have it west side inside stem stroker.
That the Anonymous NY'er says...
F.U. McCarthy, you where a political boss in the NYPD with connects here in NYC. You know it's wrong to have a residency rule on the boys/girls in the Chicago Police Department who protected "their" streets, where they have to raise their families in. Work on lifting it and show you could be a boss! You know you should have been locked up after the "shooting" on City Island but the bosses here helped you out of it. Remember where you came from.
As far as your two hour drive, you crying bitch...you chose that, just like everyone else. And you were able to come and go when you wanted, you were the Captain! Everyone did it. I can't believe you were crying on tv (after the NATO protest) for the attention of your officers and the City of Chicago. Leave that City or make the do change!! (and dont come back to New York)
Remove residency and I'm moving to McHenry county or to Wisconsin just across the border. And they know it.
Real easy when done with city gas and city car....these assholes are clueless and have no balls.
If you will recall Residency was one of the issues Rahm was alleged to have on the table when he was running. Then when he was sure to win, he took it off the table. Residency will never be lifted because they want indentured servants.
Does that Chicago school exutive still live in the burbs???
You can suck it, McGoof, you drunk. Your bullshit NATO "leadership" was an act of grandstanding and your true colors showed before and after that event. Only the feeble minded fell for your act.
I had worked with po's that lived across the street or a blocks from their district station, some took 2 expressways (as I did to get to 011), some take side streets, some take the CTA, some travel 30-40+ miles a day both ways in rush hour because they have to, others because they like to. It's their choice. But when your sent from way north to way south and there's no openings, plenty of us are stuck for for years because of no manpower, no time due off or openings closer to home because of no manpower.
I always hated that "when I was_____, I carried a sack of potatoes up a hill in a snow storm with no shoes on" story.
Ask the Mayor to hire some police, save the sad sack captain story for your memoirs.
Let's see how long he lasts here, there's definitely a crisis building within. This city won't survive without police.
Now let me brag about my shiny new star....
Even if they lift the residency now I can't sell my house and leave so it does me no good I gotta stay ....fuck this place I was a great aggressive officer for the first ten years of my carrer they made me who I am today the only time I'm going like a bat outta hell is when a copper is calling for help other than that let them kill each other let cease fire bring em in 9 more years and I'm gone
But my South Side house will be worth less if cops move out because real estate is dependent on the police living here. Wa, wa, wa.
Grow up. Residency is a horrible idea. Even if they lifted it, most would not move out because the market is in the toilet. Those who did move out would have to move so far that the commute would be two hours and over.
Residency is the last rule of political bosses that wanted to control every aspect of the peasants' lives. It needs to go the way of all other out of date laws.
you're the latest puppet in the Chicago Kabuki Theater.
Well said and very funny also.
Hey McMario Andretti, I have 2 words for you bout a daily 4 hr commute to and from the getto.... BLOW ME.
Buy a second home in the burbs like everyone else. Just keep an apt. here in the city as your address.
No, thanks. I'll keep my 30 min or less drive through Englewood into 003 every day.
2 hours with a take home car and city provided gas! Please STFU McGoof!
mood disorder means sheeeet i'm gonna be rod's room mate soon
Was it two hours and uphill both ways in a blizzard?
Phony, double-talking prick...
Hide in the fucking closet, eat shit with a splinter and still deny your breath stinks...
GTFOH...
you have to sue to win residency or the union has to really petition for it. why has neither been done?
Fuck residency...What do you have to give up just to live outside the city limits. There are plenty of copland neighborhoods in the city and good schools.
McCarthy is not a smart man. Unfortunately he fancies himself a genius. At least Hillard knew his intellectual limitations.
It's find and dandy to lift residencey, but who is going to buy your home in this ecomomy, city taxes on an over priced/mortgage loan anyway? The housing market still has you by the balls! Where you going?????
Why can't this be a bargaining point with our new contract? I know it needs to be changed by the state, but they pass nonsense all the time
Anyone that willingly adds 50% to the time of a workday commuting to and from that job is an idiot
These days you will be hard pressed to find anyone who devotes more than two percent of their nine hour tour getting off their asses to do anything at all! Do your job. Your life, the life of another policemen, or the life of our families may depend on it. Never forget Indianhead Park.
Lift residency now!
Garry lived in rockland county to say he travel 2 hours each way he is full of shitt maybe with some traffic knowing him he probably used his lights and sirens when he did get stuck in traffic. I live in orange county which is further north of the city then where he lived and I avareged 1 hour 15 mins sometimes a little longer but very rarly 2 hours. For him o say it was a 4 hour commute every day he s hitting the bottle again.
I do not know where GaRRy gets the two hour commute from, In NY, he lived in Rocland County, a little bit north of NYC. It was probably 35 minutes to the Bronx border, maybe 1 nour, possibly 1:10 to Headquarters. A lot of would have been when he had rank, so it would have been in a company car.
....and no, we do not miss him!
He may be including time spent stopping for road sodas and subsequent discharge of the byproducts of same.
I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention to McWhiskey. He's usually saying something stupid like anti-gun shit while pandering to a black audience or telling the media that crime is down with pure bullshit numbers he pulls out of his ass.
Is the decrease in the increase down yet? Are the beaches too hot near the cool water? Are there shell casings or other evidence stuck in your shoe treads after trampling a crime scene and destroying evidence? Are the pilgrims and their policies ruining the African American experience?
Wake me when this fucking goof is gone. I'll be doing as little as possible until the people demand some real changes.
Can we live in Deerfield as long as we each keep our wife's wedding dress in the crawl space?
Sorry Mc Holy.
I am not a Captain,
and I don't live in COPLAND.
Did you have a company car?
Did you have a driver?
Were you on the clock while in the car like our Inspectors and other privileged anointed?
Did you shave time off your starting and ending times?
I don't know why I'm asking these questions? You wouldn't answer honestly anyway.
You're still preaching to the media that extra police officers are not needed. Granted you do it in clever ways like:
"by hiring this many police does not mean crime will go down by this much"
You proudly proclaim that the city is hiring 450 police officers, yet fail to add that we have lost many more than that to retirement.
Like all politicians, you use lies as tools for furthering an agenda.
You are a lie.
Get real or go back to New York.
We on the street have enough bull sh-t to cut through on a daley basis. (daily was misspelled on purpose)
"Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss."
Won't Get Fooled Again - THE WHO
Whatever the beef is, leadership has ALWAYS had is worse...Long drive? Theirs was up hill both ways with no shoes. No promotions? Their numbers put John McLain to shame, they earned it. Poor equipment? All they had was a rock and pot to bang together to send for help. Out-numbered? They single handedly won the Battle of the Bulge.
Its too bad the leadership dosent come down on gangs as hard as us. Instead of pandering to the media when a parasite is shot how its such a "tragedy", focus your hatred for patrolmen on criminals.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure fireman in Chicago can't be sent further then 15 miles from their house. It sure as hell beats my 30 mile commute each way to work. Why is it ok for fire and not us? Maybe the FOP should look into this.
<><><><><><><><><><><><>
I never said I enjoy living in this city, but I do acknowledge that I have to as a condition of my employment. You were made aware of the same stipulation when you signed on, pal.
If you have problems with your neighborhood and neighbors that's on you. I was smart enough to buy my properties in stable locations that haven't fallen the way a lot of others have. It's called making educated life decisions, not reacting to speculation that some numbskull coworker, friend or family member talked you into, asshole. Deal with your fuckup like an adult and learn from your mistake.
As for speculation: you seem to think coppers with kids don't want to live here - again your naïveté glows. My kids live in a beautiful house in a great neighborhood with some of the best schools the system has to offer. My immediate and extended family is nearby, both in the city and surrounding 'burbs. Crime is almost nonexistent where I live, and any crime that does get committed is petty (those pesky teens left empty Big Gulp cups by the swing set at the park AGAIN!! The nerve of those whippersnappers!)
Your statement is partially correct: coppers with kids don't want to live WHERE YOU LIVE. YOUR neighborhood is shit, not mine. Not a "good majority" of other coppers' neighborhoods, either. But YOURS is.
And there isn't a doubt in my mind that my neighborhood will hold until I'm outta here in a few short years. Barring the losses we all took because of the economy and housing market, I still stand to make a tidy profit when it's time - even if I sold tomorrow. Profit isn't the point, though. Having the aforementioned amenities, safety and secure environment in which to raise my family is what it's all about. Can't put a price tag on that.
So when you pull into your garage tonight and you notice that your downspouts have been ripped from their gutters courtesy of one of your crackhead neighbors, picture me laughing at you while I enjoy my little slice of heaven deplete of all the shit you have to deal with. Dummy.

Unlike his cowardly predecessor J-FLED, we don't question McPilgrim's physical courage. Both are shameless transparent LIARS. If the mayor says "jump", both would ask "how high?" or "in the lake?". Careerist PUPPETS who sold their souls.
Neither have the moral courage to challenge bungling mayors and political patronage. Let the best and the brightest be damned. CLOUT (NYPD: a "hook", a "rabbi", "juice") rules.
Major spineless character issues for both with separate clueless micromanaging mayors.

What town(s) in Rockland County did McCarthy reside when he was OTJ?

Oh, let this idiot go to Wisconsin to live. Then he gets to pay tax on his salary here in Illinois and AGAIN in Wisconsin. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Where would you live if the city lifted residency? Wisconsin, Central Indiana, I like Central Indiana but do not want to drive 3 hours to work every day. How much time could I spend with my family with a 6hrs commute every day? Nothing with our job tells us our family has to live in Chicago. Move them out to Michigan, Wisconsin, or a random suburb, and get a one bedroom in Chicago and stay during we are on duty in Chicago. Where in our Rules and Regulations or G.O.’s does it say your family has to be in Chicago?

So what you're saying is that you want to be able to spend time with your family, NOT drive 6 hours daily.
Or are you saying you'd rather have your family in another state and not see them at all for (sometimes) 5 out of 7 days while you're in your one bedroom apartment while on duty?
DON'T BLOG WHILE DRUNK AND STUPID.
Hey McCarthy Why dont you drive 14 hours and go back you asshole!
Why should I drive 4 hours a day? I can't believe the shit that spews from some of these idiots mouths downtown!
Having retired after almost 34yrs, I would like to agree with the person who said the Department is so low it might never come back. It was destroyed by the Daley administration and we have reaped his whirlwind. The Department will continue to be it's own demise until decisions are based on what is right and not based on how others might react. Meaning, do what is right and not worry about political power, votes, or who might be offended. It is as simple as that! There is nobody within the Department or the city administration willing or able to do this. I MEAN NO ONE! The culture of spin prevails.

And, as for you knowing po's who live here or there or wherever, sounds like you're a great friend. SHUT UP about it. If it's working for them, just leave it alone. SHUT UP.
once you get to a certain number of years on the job, lift it yourself! ive got 29 on, so can go whenever, I make it from my house in Mokena to my southside district in 30 mins ;)
Maybe if we donate our organs, then the city overlooks the residency requirement.http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/features_julieshealthclub/2011/01/update-kidney-donor-keeps-his-job.html

Right. SOme Old Timer has to move out - get caught - get fired, and sue based on the Illinois Supreme COurt's holding in the Rahm residency case, where they said - if you intend to come back to your house in Chicago, you are still a resident of CHicago. It is all a question of intent. Then - we all chip in for the cops legal fees. He'd have to be in a position where if he loses, it doesn't really matter to him.
WestSide,
I'd love to know where your slice of heaven is. I live in Mt. Greenwood, but a couple miles in any direction excecpt west gets nasty.
What school system are you talking about? We can maybe send a kid to grade school , but forget about high school.
If you're a northsider and the neighborhood and school system is really that great, than I guess I just don't know any better and I need to start considering moving up there. If you're a southsider, than you really don't know any better.
As for "we knew what we were getting into when we got this job?" BS. As far as I'm concerned, all bets are off the table when the city started going after our pensions and any other thing they took (or tried to take) away.
This is not an attack on you WestSide. I'm not even the guy you commented on. I just want to know if the northside is indeed better than the Mt Greenwood area.
If anyone has made that switch, please post here.
Thanks
"eh, no municipality is gonna let any employee live in another state, let alone more than 15 miles from the border."
Not true. I know two Evanston cops who live across the border in Wisconsin. Their department is ok with it.
"Oh, let this idiot go to Wisconsin to live. Then he gets to pay tax on his salary here in Illinois and AGAIN in Wisconsin. Stupid, stupid, stupid."
You're not paying the ENTIRE state tax in either state. You're only paying a portion in each state. Stupid.
I'll settle for some time off! 008 wtf
