NY Times Notices CompStat Lies
- An anonymous survey of nearly 2,000 retired officers found that the manipulation of crime reports — downgrading crimes to lesser offenses and discouraging victims from filing complaints to make crime statistics look better — has long been part of the culture of the New York Police Department.
The results showed that pressure on officers to artificially reduce crime rates, while simultaneously increasing summonses and the number of people stopped and often frisked on the street, has intensified in the last decade, the two criminologists who conducted the research said in interviews this week.
“I think our survey clearly debunks the Police Department’s rotten-apple theory,” said Eli B. Silverman, one of the criminologists, referring to arguments that very few officers manipulated crime statistics. “This really demonstrates a rotten barrel.”
So is it only a matter of time before McCompStat himself is tossed out on his ear for bringing this totally corrupt and bullshit system to Chicago? Rahm hates being lied to although he seems to have no problem if he's the one spreading the manure. But being sold a bill of goods on an entire policing system as the homicide numbers continue to climb makes it harder to stick with the lie that "crime is down across the board."

Rahm did his due diligence on McCarthy. He knew exactly what he getting in McCarthy.The Streetlight Marksmanship Training Unit,Latina Novella Dramas in NYC and New Jersey,Off-Duty Drunken Escapades..Oh,and lets not forget the FBI & DOJ Civil Rights Investigation that disappeared once McCarthy became Superintendent.

Stop thinking that Constat was McCarthy's idea for Shitcago. He was brought in by Rahmbo to implement this fraudulent plan. Crony politicians all over the country are adding Constat as a policy tool as cover to cut police because of their shortfall in tax revenue.
Constat is a political tool just like global warming scare tactic to try and pass Cap & Trade, which is nothing more than another tax to cover out of control spending by these political pirates.

Speak for yourself. My children are in the house when they're supposed to be. I know who they're with and where they're going when they're not here. They have rules to live by and there are consequences to be had if those rules are broken.

well, I know its not happening in my district. I encourage my personnel to document every crime with the appropriate report. I don't care what the Cmdr, Dep.Chief or McNutsack have to say. what r they goin to do? Discipline me for following the UCR code?? I'm bid to the district and bid to the watch and I am fortunate to have enough seniority that for all practical purposes nobody is going to unseat me. The men and women who work for me can always fall back on the fact that I told them to make the report, and I'll back them on that. Screw Rahm and McNutsack, facts are that facts, deal with it.
Wonder if the S-T or Trib will 'poll' recently retired CPD exempts and ask them any similar questions as to what vexed the shit out of them all the way to retirement?

New York crime rate is less then Chicago,
Los Angeles crime rate is less then Chicago,
Many major cities crime rates are less then Chicago,
What do they have that we don't have?
They don't have a manpower shortage of 15 to 20 percent because the mayor will only hire at a trickle until he gets his way on a 401k type package for new hires.
The Mayor and the Sup say more manpower is not the answer.

Hire for the 1500 to 2000 projected shortfall which is roughly 70 to 80 cops per District?
That wouldn't help?
When 007 and 011 were the wild west you guys answered by sending in more manpower.
It cut the Murders.
Yet more manpower won't work city wide?

Instead of hiring and taking control he and the Sup keep talking about new strategies that will take awhile.

This city has the a PR Staff larger than Proctor & Gamble, what does that say about Chicago politics. Axelrod didn't just come back to run a campaign for a one term POTUS , he's here to butter up the moutzah.
The stats are not a lie if you believe them.
