We See Cameras...EVERYWHERE

But this has nothing to do with revenue:
  • The map the city of Chicago is sending out with its “request for proposals” shows just how extensive coverage by cameras designed to catch speeders around parks and schools could be — if the city ever exercises all its options.

Not to worry, city officials say: Aldermen mandated that cameras go up in only 50 to 300 locations for now.

“By ordinance, we are limited to placing these cameras in only 20 percent of the 1,500 possible Children’s Safety Zones — that’s only 300 camera [sites] citywide,” said Pete Scales, spokesman for the city’s Department of Transportation. “We expect to only have about 50 of those up and running next year.”

Really? Have you seen the map?

Holy crap! If you believe this isn't solely about the revenue, we have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

The article also says, "...In response to residents' concerns, hours of enforcement are limited to 7 a.m. to 7p.m. around schools and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. around parks, WHERE CHILDREN ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE PRESENT".

What children are likely to be present at 11 p.m.? Wouldn't the curfew ordinance take care of that? 12 and under at 8:30 p.m. and 13-16 10:00 p.m. (weekday hrs). Hey Rahmmy, explain to me again how this isn't a cash grab, and it's soley for "the children".

On a related Rahm note, they had on the CH 7 news tonight, a story about how ol' 9.5 was the topic of discussion regarding his "city values" comments. One guy called Rahn and Proctological Joe "third rate politicians". It was great.

It's not SOLELY about the revenue, SCC. It's also about the contracts for the friends of the mayor, and the kickbacks and outright bribes for all of the connected lawyers and judges.

The Daley/Burke/Madigan Crime Family has a voracious appetite and the bribes and corruption must be paid.

I wish it WAS only about the revenue. The cost would be MUCH more reasonable

Only 50 installed by next year?!!

WTF is that?

How hard is it to install and wire a camera? One person should be able to do at least 8 of them a day right?

What happened to saving the children??

No sense of urgency at all now is there?

The city is allegedly hurting for cash and they are going to drag their feet on this cash cow!

Why would they do that? Unless if the cash comes in too soon it would be a blow to union contract negotiations under the guise that the city is broke and cant afford anything right? What else could it be?

All this mayoral b.s. about family values and for the children and we can see right here that even if you buy into that claim of "it's for the children" the mayor is in no hurry to save any of them. It's b.s.

The actions speak louder then the words or the photo-ops my friends.

Oh and noting the city ordinance limitations like it means anything. That ordinance can be changed with the drop of a dime. It's meaningless and it doesn't matter what the people think or really want. That is all.

Yeah all about contracts.

The city MAYBE gets the first 50 installed and then decides it wasn't a good idea. Can't you just see it?

However like the parking meter contract the city must honor its word don't ya know -- so the contract cannot be canceled without huge penalties. In short we pay for thousands of cameras and maintenance and then the contractor does nothing but count the proceeds after the first 50.

It used to be that to get away from the idiot democrats, you moved to Cook County. Unfortunately, too many democrats moved out there and brought there liberal notions with them, so the city AND the county are not good places to live anymore. Well, Lake County used to be ok, but now there are too many liberals THERE! McHenry County, DuPage and Kane County are OK, but they're still in Illinois. Gov. Potato Head is trying to use the same "magic" on the state that has brought so many "good things" to Chicago and Cook County, so, now, the damn state is not somewhere you should live any longer.

If the conservatives (no, not those damn "RINOS" don't at least get some power here, the state will be lost. New Jersey and Wisconsin both got saved by electing rational republicans. Taxes aren't going up, the budget is balanced and things are looking up. Why is it in the Midwest, the only places that are faltering is Michigan and Illinois? The answer, democrats. Too many people drinking the water and not enough people carrying it. Indiana and EVEN Wisconsin are in balance. Chicago and Illinois should be the crown jewel of the Midwest. They should be the economic powerhouse of the Midwest. Not the economic outhouse.

So, go ahead, pull that democrat lever in November, vote for those "moderate, Rino" republicans and watch the demise of the state.

Time to start a pool

How long before the first person that gets mowed down outside the hours of operation sues the city for discrimination?

You're protecting the children and don't care about anyone else?

Start by putting them all in down on Rush street, on Lincoln Ave. and on Halsted as DUI cams with operation from 2am to 7am.
