Bank Robberies WAY Up

Just read an article that said Chicago had its 116th bank robbery of the year, which is one more than all of 2011.

You can't hide dead bodies (well, Drew Peterson can)....and evidently, you can't hide bank robberies either, probably because the Feds are involved.

But remember, these are just aberrations - actual crime is down a bazillion percent according to McJersey.

Since the police is so short staffed criminals are doing whatever they want in chicago.

Rahm seriously needs to hire more cops we are way short handed.

McColumbus states that overall crime is down significantly...which ones exactly?

Here's some that are up:
-Bank robberies...check!
-Murders...check!
-Political crimes(in our opinion)...check!
-Shootings(non-fatal)...not sure. We really need to dig this one up and find out though. It's gotta be close!
-Pot use(it's sure gonna be) soooo...check!
-flash mob crimes(beatings and robberies)...check!
Hell, stabbings are starting to pop up a lot as well. Not sure they're "up" but it sure seems the trusty blade is making its appearance lately.

Fill us in McCompstat....what's down, exactly? Traffic violations? Littering?

OT--whats up with a meritorious sgt up in 020 that had a beat car downgrade a legit burglary to a criminal trespass??? Word is a victim comes home and finds the front door forced open with the offenders still inside. Once the offender(s) realize the victim was there, they beat feet with burglary tools in hand. Victim observes drawers open but immediately discovers nothing missing. How is this trespass sgt? Sounds like an ILCS refresher course should be in your future! Typical cpd trying to downgrade crime. You can bet if this happened at the sgt's house he'd demand a thorough burglary report with an evidence tech response. Another example of what is wrong with this city.

I have a timekeeping question. In my district, our timekeeper keeps our "time" in a book. As far as I can tell it is not stored on the computer. Although, there is a function in Data Warehouse were you can look up time accrued, not sure how far back that option tracks accrued hours. My question is: what would happen if the timekeeper lost "the book?" How would the city tabulate each individual officer's time?
Does Finance have a master copy? Some officers have thousands of hours on the book. Some of these hours earned years ago. I have always wondered why the department does not have real time software that will allow me to view my hours as they accrue or used.

Yes, but I heard that the increase is decreasing. The vastly higher number of bank robberies has just about peaked and is, in fact, slightly down from the same period yeaterday. This is proof positive that the brand new Anti-Bank Robbery Initiative is a stunning success.

You cannot blame the police shortage on the increase in bank robberies. These crimes happen indoors. The banks refuse to have effective security in their banks. They tell all employees, to include any guards they might have, to do nothing when a robbery occurs and to not follow any ofenders or lock doors. The banks have open tellers without glass or bars. When you go to Europe, go into a bank there and you will see the difference. I suppose you are not going to blame the superintendent and mayor for the low interest rate that the banks pay on savings?

It's the bank's own fault. They want to be so touchy-feely and no longer have armed guards. They are an easy touch for any mutt who walks in and asks for money.
It's the policy of all these banks to give up the cash. Blow one of these parasites out of their socks one time and the robberies would drop way off.

Not to mention these babies--they take up parking spots and practically push traffic into the other lane--esp when there is biccylist, delivery truck,,,etc..

"Does it make sense to turn on-street parking spaces into miniature urban parks and plazas where people can sit, eat, check their mobile phones, read a book, take a catnap or watch the world go by?

Chicago is about to find out. With the blessing of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the city now has two of these miniparks, called "parklets" elsewhere and dubbed "people spots" by officials here."

Check out 5220 Clark, 2959 Lincoln---or coming soon 47th/Champlain and 47th/Greenwood....and they are are dumb as they sound--and Laz gets additional parking spots elsewehere to make up for lost revenue.

To 8/08/2012 03:41:00 AM:

About the timekeeper's books- a-you should keep your own records and review hers once a month and b-there is a second copy of these downtown (although they are a little behind the set in the district/unit) c-the timekeeper will be going to a computer based system soon (training on the system has already been held). As I said, review your card once a month and make a copy of it every period. In any case, in the event of a fire in the building, it is the timekeepers job to grab the books and beat feet out of the building-screw everyone else there if they need help, just save the books....and no, I am not a timekeeper, just someone in the know. Hope it helps-but still, make a copy of your card every month.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-man-charged-with-punching-girl-to-get-lollapalooza-beach-ball-20120807,0,2424307.story

And after reading it one has to ask, why wasn't the guy charged with attempted strong-arm robbery? or agg batt on the public way? or agg batt to child? and how was it that a second person, who would not give his name to police, was only charged with a misdemeanor. was this person later released on an i-bond or is he still in custody pending his identification?

a zabasearch of conrad slimak shows not one person in the U.S. with that name. however, a bing search shows that someone with that name went to St. John's Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, wisconsin.

What if this happened to your daughter? i can't imagine the mother or father wanting the suspects only to be charged with misdemeanors. I hope that at the preliminary hearing the state's attorney's office takes a second look at this case and upgrades the charges to felonies, if the offenders even show up.

Maybe these offenders "know" somebody. Something really stinks about how this case was handled. . . . .

This is nothing new. 25 years ago in 024 we were getting hammered by burglaries so sergeants gave a close reading to all burglary case reports and those that didn't pass their scrutiny were made either trespass or damage to property. I learned not to take it personally, they have the rank so if they want to 19-P the thing, it is on them, not me. Don't sweat it. Do the job as you know how and laugh at the fools all around.

Be glad you don't have Lucy Moy telling you to downgrade burglaries. Unofficially of course. Better yet, go arrest some real burglars and eliminate some of those case reports altogether.

They want to pump billions of American $$ into Mexico to upgrade everything in Mexico to induce people to want to stay in Mexico and then they won't want to come here since it will then be so great in Mexico. No shit, Democrats wrote this in an immigration bill working it's way through congress. Even a liberal friend of mine thought that was ludicrous.

8/08/2012 03:41:00 AM

Oh my, you must be new here. Time is kept on cardboard cards in a ring binder. In my district you fill out a Xerox request and the timekeeper looks it up and sends the time back to you in a day or so.

On a computer, you silly boy.

I imagine you would be surprised to know that as recent as 20 years ago we didn't have fax machines in the district, we had teletype machines from the 1930's and 40's. Metal rods connected to letters for sending messages, obtaining CB numbers etc. The rest of the world had fax machines but not at CPD.

Fingerprints were also transmitted over phone lines via an "acoustic coupler." The lockup keeper took the fingerprint card, cardboard with ink fingerprints, and put it on a metal drum which rotated and an optical pickup "read" it a small increment at a time. The device was connected to a plain old telephone which had the handset in the acoustic coupler and sent the "image" via Ma Bell phone lines at 300 baud or 300 bits per second. One fingerprint card took around 20 minutes.

This was a version of a very crude fax type device. This was used well into the 1990's until we got the first digital fingerprint system. That was at least 20 years after police departments all over the world were using digital fingerprint devices.

When I came on, late 1980's, the whole police department was run off a 1st generation IBM mainframe computer that filled a large office and had many tons of cooling capacity connected to cool the monster. A raised floor computer room behind glass with wiring under the raised floor. That beast had less computing power than your average Motorola Droid cell phone of today. To do anything on it you needed to know command line crap even more arcane than early MS-DOS. No menus, no mouse clicks, you either knew the commands to type or you didn't. No manuals either.

Never let it be said that the Chicago Police Department ever stood in the way of progress, they simply ignored it.

To the true dipshits talking shit about the guys in 020. Maybe YOU should read the statute. 720 ILCS 5/19.1(a)--a person commits burglary when without authority he knowingly enters or without authority remains within a building, housetrailer, watercraft, aircraft, motor vehicle, railroad car, or any part thereof, with INTENT to commit therein a felony or theft. You jagoffs mean to tell me these offenders were in this person's home to do some housekeeping for the property owner out of the goodness of their hearts? Multiple drawers open sure sounds like INTENT to commit a theft to me. Assholes like you guys (9:41/12:39), probably all supervisors, ripping on the beat car for initially doing the correct report, burglary, are dead wrong. Remember, when a gypsy or honor roll student breaks into YOUR house that its just a criminal trespass. You can argue the difference between case reporting and charging, but the bottom line is that this was a burglary. You reap what you sow bitches. --015 tact

Off the topic: But Sunday I was working out at the academy and saw something interesting. There were P.O.'s working there on a Sunday. Why would we have anybody working at the academy on a Sunday? I know you need the P.O. at the front desk, but what do these other officers do there on a Sunday? I would have to say probably nothing. Not a bad gig especially when people in the districts are getting denied time due. What day off group do people in the academy have? Anybody know?

8/08/2012 12:29:00 PM

=========

There are Academy personnel assigned to summer details.
They pick a F/S or a S/M day off group and are assinged to work the summer festival circuit.

If they were there on Sunday that means that the Dept. did not use them for any festival / parade that day.

Stop creating a problem where one does not exist.

If you were so concerned about why there were officers assigned to the Academy working on a Sunday, why did you not simply ask one of them?

Incompetent and misinformed know nothing p.o's that they have to hold by the hand to make sure they do things properly.
=====================================
Try again DIPSHIT. I am not the original poster and have nothing to do with the original case but the burglary statute reads....A person commits burglary when without authority he knowingly enters or without authority remains within a building...or any part thereof, with intent to commit therein a felony or theft.

Thank you. Come again.

I was once asked by a defense attorney if a particular case report was mine. I replied no it was not. She replied is this not your pc number?
I replied that it was, but I had generated a GOCR for a burglary, and the report was now a theft.
I stated that since it had somehow been changed without my approval , it was no longer mine.
The State was not happy with that response.

Grow a set? Listen up dipshit. There is a reason that the FBI won't include Chicago's crime stats in it's national figures. The reason is that the CPD kills crime on paper. Why do you think Rahm and McCarthy can keep going on TV claiming crime is down? They kill it on paper. Then Rahm can cut police because crime is down.

No favor for Meritgeants - but:
"...OT--whats up with a meritorious sgt up in 020 that had a beat car downgrade a legit burglary to a criminal trespass... nothing taken..." (the key words, remember your case reporting son)
Well, since there's no hierarchy for misdemeanor offenses, I'd go with criminal damage to property (F), if there's a chance prints were left behind, then upon arrest, some overworked Det. can try for the upgrade, (the intent to commit theft within), one might get a 'charge' of burglary (clearance-not conviction, mind you)...anywhere except Cook Co. I won't doubt for a minute that district stats need to be manipulated per the Soop, we all know who ultimately runs the magic show. Keep taking reports and be thorough with your preliminary investigation, it's all quality down time. It's hard to believe 'nothing was taken', spend some time with the complainant, perhaps a bottle of ketchup is missing.
Bottom line...by all means, advise homeowner to carry concealed.

Your intent is to commit a felony or a theft. The fact that the drawers were pulled out implies intent to commit a theft. Only in crook county is it C.T.T.P because the state won't prosecute with out fruits of the crime. Report should be burglary however, the charge will be C.T.T.P. Signed a stupid beat cop

I had whole cases stolen too, that is what happened sometimes if you were on at least 25 years ago. Case reports changed, whole arrests gone or new arrest reports generated. Captain called me in during processing of an arrestee, as I looked around while with the captain the desk sergeant was walking my offender out the front door. That was motion to fix. Things were different then. Young people have no idea how corrupt it was.

Wrong.
Wrong.

I have personally seen/heard about no bank robberies committed by anything but m/1s and m/2s. But if you actually took your ass someplace and looked at some case reports, or even CAD events, you'd see that it's more even than your smart ass thinks. Haven't looked at hard stats, but I'm guessing neither race commits less than half the bank robberies that the other does.

And TCF? No Chase? No Metropolitan Bank & Trust in 017 just this week? No Bank of America?

I guess next you'll tell us that in 97.72% of bank robberies, the offender walked in and displayed a gun and demanded money, too.

==========

The circumstances are known by everyone in that building, staff, visitors and others.
She didn't have a babysitter for her youngest child (3yrs old).
She brought the child to work under the pretense that she was going to look at some daycare center nearby, which of course never happened. The child was at the Academy the entire day.
She is not a police officer, rather the civilian "in charge" of ordering supplies.
She dresses like she is going to the beach or to work out.
She along with another civilian dress inappropriately and unprofessionally EVERYDAY. Additionally, she is a dirty person, (smelly and unwashed hair) It is rare if either of them reports to work in conversative business attire, yet not one of the supervisors in that building comments or corrects this behavior.

Persons have chosen to use this forum in an attempt to address these issues as there is no supervisor at the academy that will. The hope is that perhaps someone will be embarrassed into taking some action.
It is however doubtful that any action will take place.
