Lollapalooza Evacuation

There is supposedly an "evacuation plan" in existence if the need ever arose to safely get thousands of people out of Grant Park in a hurry. The decision was made Saturday evening to get concert-goers out of the park due to storms, lightening, high winds, etc, but reports from the scene describe mass chaos, no direction, no efforts to direct people to the underground garages and the like to wait out the weather.

Anyone working that as an overtime initiative want to speak up and tell the world about it?

And today, Grant Park looked like a bomb hit with all the grass and landscaping destroyed. How many millions is that going to cost?

I thought I'd remembered the promoters needing to pay for new grass after lollapalooza last year, and from this article it appears as if that's the case.

On a side note; Pat Levar is the COO of the Chicago Park District? It seems just as impossible to keep these ex-aldermen off the city payroll as it is to keep police gold stars off the cushy retirement security spots.

Speaking of costing the city money...why are foot and tac teams assigned to the outer perimeter of Lollapalooza to prevent people from going over the fence? Isn't that something that the organizers should hire and pay their own security to do? That's three days of security paid for by Chicago taxpayers.

It's gonna cost a shitload!
Year after year the Parks District has to repair the grounds there. Last year on the final day it rained like hell...same shit show. Dancing in the mud and all of the above...

The Lollapalooza contract was extended till 2021. "Supposedly" the contract included a clause stating that C3, the festival's promoter(also douchebag's brother) are to immediately reimburse the city for costs to repair the grounds following the event. Especially in the event of major damage to the grounds due to this type of mud shit show....we'll see.

As far as the evacuation, I have no clue, but the Trib has many photos of Congress Ave. looking like a full blown dance party in the streets as the storm rolled through...

The event does bring a decent amount of revenue for the city. Hotels, restaurants, you name it. Sure as hell a lot more than let's say...uhhhh....NATO.

This "reimbursement"....we'll see. Or maybe we won't. We know how the media follows(or doesn't follow) Rham's business deals.

Lolla has to pay for the damage as part of their contract. Problem is, we will lose the use of our lovely park until they make good on it, which will be a few weeks.

This nonsense is turning into an annual, ever repeating, mess. Let us have our festival, then we'll destroy your park, then we'll pay a tiny bit of our profit to fix your park, over and over and over again. And who gives a damn about the inconvenience and the unsightly vistas and the next guy who comes along who doesn't GET to enjoy the park, because Lolla got there first.

As a supervisor who worked it, I think Commander Kennedy timed it perfectly, and handled it as well as could have been done. Sgts were told almost 90 minutes beforehand to report to the underground garage entrances and other shelters in the event that "chaos" broke out. It was handled perfectly in my humble opinion. The only thing these people cared about wasn't where they could go for shelter, but when would the concert start again?

Anyway...unless it was different in other parts of the park, great job all around.

My kids were among the "shit-smelling hippies" and "idiots" some of you above referred to. For the record, they had a great time, and it was very safe thanks to the fine work of the officers and Cmdr. Kennedy. The evacuation was well-timed and well-executed, and they were safe from the weather, unlike that NASCAR event out east (Darwin, anyone?). So thank you and as for some of the misanthropes who posted above, I hope you're not cops because you have a shitty attitude, and if I were running your deparment you'd be monitoring urine samples at the Academy because that is where you belong, as far away from the citizenry as possible.

I guess it depends on where you were in the park. I was there at the Sony stage watching Neon Trees and everything went smooth. The staff at that stage explained what was going on very clearly. Was is inconvenient? Hell yes! But after the storm hit I was glad I wasn't still in the field.

The Lolla contract calls for C3 to pay for any field repairs immediately. Also, there is an additional donation clause to the Chicago Park District which goes for other yearly upkeep and maintenance. Spoke to a couple of the workers and found that some come from out of town to work this festival. Between the donations, extra business and jobs that are created because of this festival, in my eyes it's a success. A little inconvenience to a few is a small price to pay.

Monterey Security sucks!
They were the red shirted assholes who had no clue what was going on with the evacuation. The other company who worked the stages, S3, seemed more informed of what was going on, even though they were in the park and not working at the gates directing people. Montery's management really needs to get their heads out of their asses and get a grip on what the hell they're doing.

Hats off to the Chicago Police and S3 for at least having some knowledge of what was going on and what to do. Glad I wasn't sitting in the field when the storm did hit. It was brutal.

Because profit for the Emanuel (Auerbach) family is more important than protecting human life.

Better that neighborhoods be stripped of police protection, better that policemen work their days off and go into dangerous situations alone, better that the morgue cooler fill to the ceiling than Ari Emanuel lose a fucking nickel.

That answer the question?

Oh. Be happy. Mayor has reappeared "into public view." Monday morning's New Same Old Strategy (it's twice a week now at least) is those bicycle lanes again.

Mayor says that THIS "will provide the quality of life Chicagoans are seeking."

"There will be some talisman, some symbol of something or other related to a bicycle within half a mile of every home in the city."

Little kids get shot to death while sleeping in their beds in some areas. The criminals are so thick today that they're tripping over each other and blowing each other's heads off while crowding into other people's houses.

You gonna ride a bike through a place like that? Riiight.

Emanuel just peed another ten million dollars into some kind of "prenatal infant developmental care" thing. There are big city posters (that we paid for) on bus shelters about this --

"Make Chicago A Wonderful Place To Have Another Premature, Out-Of-Wedlock, Subsidized Baby That You Will Then Raise Up On 'Sugar Water,' As You Yourself Call It."

Evacuating Grant Park, or anyplace, for that matter, is good practice in the event something really big & bad goes down.

Even if there is a "plan," as everyone with any background i this business or the military knows, it will rarely survive the first contact.

The wildcard here is the public.

If they're not properly "trained," i.e. they've had practice in this sort of thing (do school fire drills ring a bell?), things will fall apart quickly. You can only hope to save the ones who are disciplined enough to follow direction. Many New York buildings conduct fire drills since 9/11 to give people the training and practice.

The other problem is, if there aren't enough "directors" (police), how are people supposed to know what to do/where to go.
Since we're so short of personnel, any significant "plan" will likely implode quickly.

The mob mentality takes over and the result is chaos.

Why? This is why?

The guy who got stabbed and his 2 buddies initiated the fight and were giving dude a beat down. To protect himself (which is his right)dude removed a pocket knife and stabbed the alleged victim who really is the offender.

Straighten your stuff out before you call that in, next time!

Just because he suffered more serious injury doesnt neceesarily make him a victim.

If your with your family and get jumped on and beat by 3 guys and you kill 1 of them, does that make you an offender of a Murder. No.

RWOC was the way to go, the Detective was probably you guys from the liability in this.

The case should have been Battery-Simple with victim stabbing the offender in self defense

Even though the Det seems lazy, she did the right thing, in this horseshit case!

Charge the guy with reckless conduct? And who is your witness? Oh yeah, the guy who left and didn't want to cooperate.

You can charge him with a misdemeanor and watch it get tossed out of court if it makes you happy.

Or better yet, hold the victim hostage until he cooperates. Then you can see what it's liked to be sued civilly in Federal court and enjoy the stress.

Of that I have no doubt -- and their paycheck goes home with them.

City of Berwyn had one of those carnivals a few years ago. All the trucks were with some outfit out of Texas.

I noticed all the workers sitting around the city park resting after setting up, laptop computer screens glowing all over in the evening.

I went to talk to them, "Where are you getting your web connection?" The whole 4G thing was just getting going and I hadn't heard of it yet.

I could not talk to them, because they were all Chinese who spoke no English. Ideograms on the computer screens, that was how they were keeping up with things back home.

It was surreal.

Tip of a very large ICE-berg, I'm afraid.

Anyway, benefits the local economy? Maybe less than we're told...

Rahm's daddy? He didn't do a great job treating the racoons finger infection, hence 9.5. I wouldn't want him treating me.

Lollapalooza has paid for damages each year as part of the contract. They have fixed all damages on their own with people they hire. In addition to that they have made very large donations to the Friends of the Park foundation. Those funds paid the rehab of Buckingham Fountain and the pavers/drainage system surrounding the fountain which replaced the red gravel which was there forever.

Buckingham Fountain is funded by a private trust fund set when the fountain was built. The fund is not managed by the city. The rehab was paid by that fund. The fountain along with the museums were built with private money. Not the city.

Try again. The renovation was almost entirely paid for thru Friends of the Park. I actually still have a couple photos taken during the project of the signage which was posted around the fountain.

I also did a little research back then to see if it was tied to Perry Farrell (Lollapalooza's founder) and found that indeed it was. The rehab, pavers and newer garden south of the fountain were mostly paid for by the donations made to Friends of the Park by Lollapalooza.

In addition to Friends of the Park Perry has donated to CPD, The Animal Welfare League, and PAWS in addition to other Chicago area charities. How much do other events (parades, concerts, fests, etc...) contribute to charity or bettering our city?

i'm a PO who works in 01 and we were not notified on the zone about the evacuation and given no direction by the commander or anyone else on where to send people for shelter. (lalapalooza was on CW)

B.S!! Several times over the zone starting over 30 minutes prior to the storm announcements of the evacuation came over the zone. I suggest turning the volume up or get an earpiece so you can pay more attention to radio traffic!

As far as the evacuation plan, if you were there you knew we were moving them to the garages. Hell, even Brant Miller from channel 5 weather knew our plan the day before the storm. Friday during his forecast he stated the chances of a severe storm were high and CPDs plan is to move people underground to the garages if it hit...

Rahm looking out for family and friends

Illinois law states that to qualify for an exemption from the sales tax, “Your organization must be not-for-profit and organized and operated exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, or governmental purposes.” Lollapalooza, which is co-owned by politically well-connected Texas concert promoters C3 Presents and Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavor (run by Mayor Rahm Emmanuel’s brother, Ari) clearly is a for-profit venture.
Last year, the festival gave Parkways more than $2 million for park improvements. But its gross revenues were more than $21 million, and it did not pay the 5-percent city amusement tax, the 1.5-percent county amusement tax, or any fee to rent and close Grant Park for much of the summer.

The Emanuels ....a family ANYONE would be proud of....

There's Rahm, socialist/communist/marxist/revolutionary/illegal alien/sharia law loving thug/businessman/Mayor of Chicago.

There's Ari....

Responsible for the Lollapalooza this weekend.

And most of all, there's Dr Ezekial Emanuel, the most evil, disgusting person responsible for the Death Panels, amoung other portions of obomacare..Ezekial is the creator of all that is vile...his take on human beings is if you are elderly, a minor, disabled, you contribute nothing, and are of no use to the collective..that is the democrativ/communist/socialist/marxist party. And so you are denied medical care, drugss because you no longer produce for the state. OH YES, obomacare will make medical care AVAILABLE to you, but you just WON'T receive the medical care/medications you need in a timely fashion. The trick is in the wording.

Vote these leftist bast*ards out in November. See you at the polls and pass it on.

+++++++++++++++++++++

hey rookie, get a clue. you weren't notified because you weren't supposed to be. The people on CW were handling that, and you should be doing district stuff, not including lolla. Also, you are allowed to ask via the radio: grab the speaker, push in the button and fucking ask. "none told me" wah wah.

fucking hair gel.

"Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel..."

"Rahm's daddy?"

--8/06/2012 08:04:00 PM

No, that would be "Benjamin M. Emanuel...A Chicago pediatrician, he is father to Rahm Emanuel, Ari Emanuel and Ezekiel J. Emanuel."

A fascinating story here --

Here comes the first Lollapalooza of a lawsuit --

WBBM radio reporting this morning that some "Glasser" woman and a companion "will never go back to this event again."

They are claiming that "they were standing and minding their own business when a group of people ran at them from the direction of the port-a-pots, trying to get into the event."

The woman claimed "suffered a sprained neck," and stated that the man "has had headaches for four days now." They claimed "ambulance" and "emergency room."

It was unclear from where they were speaking to reporters.

To 8-6 at 8:04PM....

Dr Ezekiel Emanuel is Rahm's brother. Take a look at the following to learn his connection to the formation of obomacare, and who "Zeke" really is and what he believes...it will make your eyes bleed.
