::Snicker::

Once again, our favorite charge:
  • Charges have been upgraded to murder for a 19-year-old accused of home invasion in a July 25 incident on the South Side that left one of his fellow attackers dead, police said.

Jermalle Brown, 19, of the 7100 block of South East End Avenue was charged with murder in the accidental shooting death of Douglas Bufford, 16, police said.

[...] Police said that about 9:45 p.m. July 25, four or five males forced their way into a home on the 1400 block of East 73rd Street in the Grand Crossing neighborhood and announced a robbery.

One of a group accidentally shot a fellow attacker, identified as Bufford, in the back of the head with a shotgun, police said. The homeowner wasn't injured, according to authorities.

Back of the head with a shotgun? That's going to leave a mark.

A 9mm round takes the top of #2's head off. All on video. Asshole #1 is taken into custody. Before being taken to the area, he was subjected to stares and laughter to his face, even from the station janitor. At court, I read the weapons report, the trigger pull in the WW2 era pistol was a 1/2 pound when the gun was cocked

CLINT EASTWOOD ENDORSING ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT

SUN VALLEY, Idaho
Clint Eastwood just made Mitt Romney's day.

The Oscar-winning director and longtime movie star says he's endorsing the Republican presidential candidate.

Eastwood tells The Associated Press that he's backing Romney because, in Eastwood's words, "I think the country needs a boost."

Eastwood was among those attending a Romney fundraiser Friday night in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Off topic: Can you imagine an officer going on the medical for a condition that would prohibit them from safely working the streets, who after healing up and being released by a doctor to resume work, calls his dept. for assignment, only to find out that according to the second in command of their dept., their position had been 'eliminated,' and a job was no longer available? Such a situation occurred recently here at the UCPD.
An officer was off for several months, recovering
from knee surgery. After being cleared by his
Dr., he called the UCPD to inform the Dept. that
his Dr. had cleared him for active duty. A short
time later, he was called back by our recently
hired Asst. Chief (Chief Clueless) who informed
the officer that he had 'been mailed a registered
letter, informing him that his position had been
terminated. There is no position within the
UCPD for you at this time.' Fortunately, this
officer was well versed in the PBPA contract
that patrolmen here are blessed with. He
informed Asst. Chief Clueless that he couldn't
be fired, and that he had X amount of time to
return to active duty per the contract. Asst. Chief
Clueless apparently has spent no time at all
familiarizing herself with the Patrolmen's
contract with the U of C. After she had been
brought up to speed, she informed the officer
that he was correct, and that he would be allowed
to resume working for the UCPD. It's just
unbelievable that the second in command could
make such an error as to someone's career, and
to do it so casually. The officer did inform Asst.
Chief Clueless that he had received no registered
letter stating in effect that he was unemployed;
no one seems to know whatever happened to
this registered letter. Many of us here at the
UCPD read the SCC blog regularly. We understand
that you have some seriously questionable
leadership within your agency, but I don't think
you have anything close to the level of
incompetence we've seen here since Chief
Marlon Lynch took over the UCPD from Rudy
Nimocks. We've never experienced firsthand
so much turmoil, confusion, and outright mean
spirited so-called leadership here. We thought
that with the hiring of this new Asst, Chief and
the subsequent resignation of Doty that we
would experience a 'kinder, gentler' form of
leadership, but it doesn't look like that will
be the case anytime soon. Thank God for
unions (although only patrolmen are allowed
to unionize here at the UCPD, everyone else
is considered an at will employee whose job
can be terminated by the U of C at any time).
Our union isn't great, but we do have some
job protections in place. We wish the FOP well
in their upcoming negotiations with the City.
Every officer who is part of a union should make
very sure that they are familiar with their contract
to avoid the kind of nonsense we've recently
seen here at the UCPD.

Aahh yes, the "Accountability Statute."

Love when that one bites some perp in the behind. Love hearing about it, too.

Such an established tenet of law that defense attorneys don't even try to fight it.

Especially the one a few years ago where the SH's were driving around the SW side. Passenger gets out and robs person on street.

Call goes out, PO spots the SUV and pulls a stop. In the ensuing gunfight, the passenger perp is killed. (PO uninjured--YAY!!)

Driver is charged with passenger perp's murder and his assaulting a PO, and all the robbery and weapons charges.

From FOP Site:

NEWS FEED
Contract Negotiations
August 1, 2012

On July 31, 2012, the Lodge had its first contract negotiating session with the City. The meeting took place at the FOP building and was attended by the entire negotiating team. After introductions that included our labor lawyer, Joe Burns, and the City’s main attorney, David Johnson, the Lodge advanced its proposals for a new contract. The proposals included typical bargaining issues, such as wage increases, definition of the work day, furloughs, and shortening the duration of the contract. Lodge proposals also included other subjects such as wage compression, compensatory time, disciplinary protections and expeditious processing of grievances.

After a brief discussion of the proposals, the City indicated that it would need at least a few weeks to review and ultimately respond to our proposals. The next round of negotiations should take place shortly after the Labor Day holiday.

The pos from 020 got stripped for stupid. There was one of the six that went iod after an incident that they never documented in the first place. Plus a complaint of excessive force. You can't put your hands on anyone and not document it. You have to or it will cost you. I'm sure some gave conflicting statements and that's the big problem. Tell the truth and take your punishment and move on. Nowadays there are cameras everywhere and it is not worth it. The ones with a lot of time dragged a young po in this crap. Laziness gets no one no where.

So what someone asks about the 20 district officer's scandal!? It's not like it didn't happen or no one got stripped. It was about incident from years ago. Many can learn from their mistakes. 6 officers stripped from one district that is a big blow. Given that night 21 in total got stripped. Now they will have to fight the system to survive but honestly I have always thought that by then. Our system knows what's gonna happen to you and they keep around to torture you slam you even worse or they hope you eat your gun from all the pressure. I wish them the best and for better days.
