- OT- but hilarious. My buddies work in 020 and were ordered to get
contact cards by the end of their shift. They were told if they did not
get any they were to drop a TO-FROM if they did not. At the end of their
tour the Sgt was upset and said drop paper.
Now I don't remember what was written on the to from but it was something like, show me where there is an order where R/O has to write a contact card and where is the quota?. The Sgt takes it and Trahanas-sp, gets ahold of the paperwork. She flips out and goes to roll call and goes off on the P.Os. She tells on of the P.O.s, "I looked up your activity for the year, you have not written a mover all year, is this correct?' Officer says, "No, I have not written a mover in 7 years".
She then tells them that she is going to ride with them that night and show them how to get contact cards and movers. You can't make this shit up. It is freaking hilarious. Sounds like the Sgt was trying to bully that watch into getting contact cards and was called on his bluff. And then penny to actually go out and ride with them?
First, check out a cage car. Second, make sure Penny articulates reasonable suspicion and probable cause for every stop, lest you get sued. We certainly hope that Henny Penny fills out the paperwork properly. Then she goes to court to testify properly. Then appears at Federal Court regularly for once again coming up with a "quota." And finally, maybe everyone can go to church with Penny and jump around like their pants are on fire.

Nothing shuts up an over zealous supervisor mandating activity than a request to put that demand in writing. This is a very easy fix to a problem that should've gone the way of the dinosaur. Only problem is the overall lack of balls on this job. Too many pansies have infiltrated the ranks in the last decade or so, effectively effeminating the CPD. Sallies worried about a change in start times, assigned vehicles and whatnot for questioning a supervisor. Unreal.
Kudos to the copper that called out Penny in such grand fashion. Now just be sure to have the pen at the ready to document what will surely be attempts at retaliation for making her look stupid. The best part? She really IS dumb enough to go out of her way to jamb you up while putting "quotas" on paper at the same time.

the contact card must serve a police purpose. otherwise the contact card is a violation of the person's right to not have their demographics, identifiers in the cotract card database accessible to all police officers!
Screw the command staff unless we can put their family members in the contact card database. this information is satored for one year but the department has no resourses to purge this information in a timely manner a basis for a lawsuit against the chicago police department and the city of chicago. just read the new york times newspaper search "stop & frisk forms" their numbers dropped by more than half when this summer 2012 the judge ruled the lawsuit classaction status, policemen in NYC said i want no part of that lawsuit!

It is about an incompetent boss who has mistreated Police Officers every chance she has gotten. That woman has not been in 020 for seven years so he is not protesting her lack of leadership. He is an embarrassment to the uniform. Many great arrests are a result of traffic stops. His supervisors need to supervise and lower his work rating so low that he does not get his next step pay increase. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I've got news for you. I haven't written a mover in about 15 years. What I DO do, though, is show up for work on time everyday. Sober, too. I answer all my jobs in a timely fashion and then clear to be available for more jobs. I ride on every assist call that I can, and oftentimes swing by jobs of other cars just to make sure they're OK. I don't get stupid beefs, which means sergeants aren't tied up in the station typing reports to try and minimize any damage heading my way. Ditto for court deviations, cuz I don't get those either. I don't call for a supervisor for every little question I might have, nor do I leave jobs with missing pieces or pissed off citizens that call for supervisors to correct. I make arrests on signed complaints only, as I realize that my peace cannot be disturbed, therefore I don't lock up "every swinging dick" that may or may not be hanging on a corner, may or may not be a gang member or may or may not have that dime bag of weed in the pocket. I do all and more than what my job description calls for. I dutifully honor my oath without being a hardon. I treat everyone, citizens and coworkers alike, with respect and the benefit of the doubt, unless/until they give me a reason to do otherwise.
I'd love a supervisor to follow me around "nitpicking" my every move, because I guarantee that'd last all of a half hour. And as for your stupid ass?? You just stay in your ghetto district playing Superman and kissing the supervisors asses until your dues are fully paid, junior. Go write those contact cards, movers and parkers.

The activity I generated was easy. Average out to one mover, five parkers and whatever else I could find, handle the radio and still have plenty of time left over. Not every day but enough. The guy in 020 is just rationalizing being a dogass. Cops aren't factory workers making so many widgets per hour but you got to do something out there and traffic enforcement is part of the job. I wrote tickets because people don't know how to drive. They piss me off and a mover is a way to get back at them... I mean make them pay...I mean educate them...yeah, that's it. And to the foot guy in 019: I never heard of a foot guy being asked to write movers. Your post described what a good foot guy does. Foot guy, beat car are two different jobs. But if you are JH, then I understand so just nevermind.
I retired long ago from the job as a supervisor. These do nohtings were around then and they bragged about it. Most of them spent the tour sitting in ER coffee rooms. Their sergeant can make it very hard on them and nitpick them for just about everything. Catch them off of their beat when not on a call, take too long to respond, uniform violations etc. No balls out there anymore. There would be no CR numbers or spar forms, just a whole lot of close observation. Aholes like this just make it harder on the good copper. Have some pride.
I can only assume it was MS. He has the balls to tell her to suck it.
Why write a mover??? That is why we are given DISCRETION, unless the people he/she deals with are assholes. I get more arrests than most, yet I havent written movers in years. There is better policing that can be done without choking the antiquated system with more quota BS.

Now I'm gonna write down your information to put into the government computer system even though you did nothing wrong. Give me all your personal information and phone numbers and I'll decide if you're in a gang or not so I can add that to my government probe."

I bet that 20th district cop was a hero back in the day when he was on the mean streets of some cushy district. While there are those of us that have worked there asses off in ghettos. You north side dogs make me sick and are just as much an embarrassment to this department, and to the men and women that sacrificed their lives on this job as the fucked up excuse for bosses out there. I ain't no hair gel either, I have 15+ years and i still go out and do my job everyday, not for bosses but for myself. To the fools that are asking "what do you do to justify your existence?" and the statement "you should come in with at least a mover" -Before our xo came in and strong armed us with her demand for contact cards, I always checked off with activity - movers, parkers, tows,cc, even an arrest here and there. My reward: no regular car/partner, being bounced from car to car, late start/early start/early start/late start. Meanwhile, those who do nothing are given nice cars, regular partner w/same rdo, and of course, never having to work with one of the undesirables. We were told in roll call that they were not even looking for more activity per se, just more contact cards- or else penny would be doing checkoff. Couple that with being denied time due, and denying furlough extensions, I am done with this job. Anything I bring in now is out of pure boredom. That aside, I can see how someone in 020 wouldn't have time to do cards and movers. They are too busy answering the 2 or 3 calls per shift.
There is no Order that states you must do (insert amount) activity/contact cards/movers/etc. However, there is a Special Order that says you are required to do contact cards on street stops. But if you only get out your car for personals, lunch and check off, guess it doesn't apply.
I personally don't see how a lot of coppers laugh and joke about how they aren't doing work. You are proud to do nothing? That's just plain shameful.
Oh wait, you would work if you had a Supt,Mayor and XO you liked. You would work if the contract was to your liking and if you could police like 'back in the day'.....But things aren't the way you think they should be so you come to work everyday with the intention of doing nothing.

ok, so you're telling me that for example, it's getting towards the end of the month for September, and I don't have my quota filled for say contact cards and I'm short movers and parkers. And I'm a white male officer who's beginning to sweat this activity quota hanging over my head (or else!)
Now, I normally like to use my discretion but now I can't. So I see three male blacks hanging out and I decide to stop them for no reason and contact card them- and I wouldn't of done that before but there is a quota now and I feel forced to. next, I get hit with a civil rights violation and my defense is I would never of stopped those guys but my Department told me I had to come in with numbers. So, if there wasn't a quota officer you would not of felt pressured to stop these guys. Absolutely correct.
Now imagine that happening across the whole nation.

I rember a story about the 20th District before we had a union . The watch had such a bad boss that they refused to take their posts after roll call. Some one from the Irovy Tower ( 11th st HQ ) had to drive to 020 and order them to take their posts. It worked the boss was transferred but soon after so were some of The Officers.

Between 35 and 45 thousand people year are killed in this country in traffic crashes. Comparatively, we have 8 to 10 thousand murders a year. Murders grab the head lines, but you are far more likely to die in a traffic crash then to be murdered. The roads are filled with drunks, suspended/revokes, distracted drivers, unsafe vehicles, incompetant drivers, unlicenced drivers and scofflaws. Do yourself, your family and friends a favor and crack down on these unguided missiles before one slams into you or someone you love. Most bad drivers have a personality defect, they are irresponsible. They don't use due care and make bad decisions consistently. I believe the officer's decision to not write a mover in seven years probaly coincides with the bad decision of moving traffice court to the Daley Center. But don't jeopardies our safety because of a bad decision by politicians and judges.

You are a company guy! Fuckstick! We all, at one point were the working police. Until we got fucked over and over and over. Everything from pay, to promotions to punishment.
What's the point of writing a mover? lets examine this... A) most of the time you will have to go to court on your own time to a facility that has no parking for off duty. So your 3 hours o/t will be used for parking. B) the judges rarely if ever administer proper punishment. If I get caught without a DL what would happen to me? or a city sticker or pass due parking tickets. C) contrary to common belief it does not generate revenue, when you factor in the cost of police time , ticket book printing cost and judges not properly fining offenders and court cost.
And D) most districts have a suck ass "Traffic Car" who does not get radio calls all day and has weekends off! so ask them for movers!
