Disability Hit Series

The Sun Times continues to do Rahm's bidding with Fusco and Novak contributing something like four separate stories of disabled cops and firefighters with questionable injuries. We aren't going to link to the stories themselves because they're pretty one-sided.

No one here is doubting for a second that there is the potential for abuse of the disability system and there likely is abuse going on as we speak. But the scorched earth solution Rahm is looking for does nothing except screw the legit cases.

So how about this - the FOP, the Memorial Foundation, someone start posting stories about cops or firefighters who qualify for disability. Officers who will never be physically whole. Firefighters with lung damage. Guys and gals missing digits, limbs, eyes. People who will never hold their child again. Or walk.

Those stories are there and they aren't being told.

How many "show-up-to-work-without-medical" ribbons has the department issued?

I was reading these articles today at my local car wash. It was disgusting. The reporting was a joke and totally biased. I have broken over 8 different bones over 18 years fighting with the savages. Have had 3 surgeries and still am working.

It is amazing how these STORIES are out when the teachers are on strike. I also found it so unusual that there was one officer with a t shirt on that DID NOT support Obama. I won't mention the officers name because we don't know what her injury really is. What a way to have the citizens think we all are using the system.

Remember in the early 2000s when car salesmen were making 100 plus grand a year? Then no one wanted to be the police in the ghetto. Now all of a sudden we are abusing everything, our pensions are too much and all cops are jerks.

Thanks Rahlm, your such an ass wipe.

Absolutely disgraceful hit piece by the scum-times at Rahm al Ghoul's (the little half a Boris Karloff looking fucker) direction...

Nobody says shit about the walking wounded with torn up, broken, fractured and otherwise damaged/surgically repaired body parts.

This is the wrath of rahm since it looks like the Teachers handed him his entire ass.

Gotta recapture the hatred for those "greedy" muni employees.

Rahm is a shit-ass... People conveniently forget that he ran for mayor on blaming Police, Fire and Teachers for the alleged muni budget mess.

"I'm gonna fuck you guys but I want you to support me."

This shit-ass said he was going to cut our throats and the thoats of our families. Now he's pissed because we didn't hand him a knife to do it with?

Hell yeah people are gonna support the other guy when you talk crazy shit like that!

This dirty little, never had his ass properly beat by his daddy or anybody else shit-ass has announced nearly a half billion dollars in spending initiatives since spring as a "nyah-nyah fuck you, we got money just none for you" to Police, Fire and Teachers.

The more you're accquainted with the ways of a spoiled, North Shore shit-ass, the less you like rahm.

Hmmm... $200m for a new malcolm x?
multiple millions on bicycle lanes, maggie boxes, bump-outs and round abouts that assholes drive through.

$55m to redo the north end of Millenium Pk into a nature reserve/memorial for maggie, the gold coast/north shore phony charity money laundering & kick-back patron saint?

Let's not forget that $1.7b Infrastructure Trust that Rahm conjured up as a sop to the clouted contractors not getting their chance to steal mega billions had Chicago gotten the 2016 Olympics.

Oh... We almost forgot about the 1+b in the mayoral slush (TIF) fund.

Hiya Fusco & Novak... How are you toothless, knee walking gumps doin'? You're cordially invited to investigate all of the just above after you get done rummaging in the underwear drawers of Coppers and their families...

Maybe we need to have people follow you clowns around, rifle through your trash and talk to your neighbors about whether you ass-jokes actually adhere to anything accidentally of passing acquaintance with journalistic integrity. Did rahm have the decency to let you two at least share a wet wipe when he was done?

Every set of madly clacking wind-up dentures from the mayor, the media, Larry Msall and the rest of those gleefully knee-walking ass-hoes at the civic federation are crying in unison about "Chicago is broke" in spite of MUCH evidence to the contrary.

These fuckers ain't gonna let emanuel declare bankruptcy. They'll have to give up the REAL books...

Heh... The REAL books are hangin' evidence.

It's looking like the rest of the nation is going to revoke the insurance policy of Daley Inc. and Rahm & Co. currently residing in the White House...

That's why Rahm al Ghoul is looking very crazy and sounding kinda shrill of late. Bug-eyed, sweating like Soviet-era gulag escapee. He probably screams and runs in his sleep...

We say again... These fuckers moved heaven, earth and a few precints in hell to put Sparkly-Farts aka The Hollow Dude in the White House as a hedge against the Feds doing too much digging into the high performance fuckery that is Chicago politics gone nation wide... Rahm is a dishonorable little worm.

I am so tired of comments like these. You think not going on the medical makes you some kind of hero? You are GIVEN the medical time so you don't have to come in when you are sick. There are too many fools that use their comp time when they are sick, or come into work and spread their germs to everyone else. Using the medical days that you are given, per our contract when you are sick or injured off duty, does not make you a medical "abuser".

it amazes me the difference in time a person is off work for an injury based on who they work for and who is paying the bill. Statistics show that for some reason the injuries public employees receive on the job take the longest to heal compared to those who work in private industry and amazingly those individuals whom are self employed heal the fastest-who would have guessed.

Perhaps it is time to start offering rewards and prosecuting those whom commit fraud whether it be welfare, S.S.I. disability, workers compensation- problem is the greatest perpetrators of fraud are the ones we elected.

he obiviously lost on the teachers union ( thanks to peter flynn)so lets go after disability
except one tiny problem, he ( they) make no mention of the city in general( does this mean only police and fire abuse the system?)
disability abuse has gone on before my time and your time(i'm 57) after will obiviously continue after we are dead and gone
depending on the nature of the disability ( remeber only a doctor can determine that) i'm sure there are some jobs in the police fire streets and san finance what have you can be done by some on disability and i'm sure there some that would more then happy to them
i thought there was a program long ago that was going to have retired officers and fire do lets say dispatch
i'm not saying that will ease the 2000+ plus manpower shortage only hireing can do that but least keep some of these experienced people in the loop
it's pretty evident now rahm is grasping at straws
the suntimes is trying to cover it for now but soon like hyenas the "pack" will turn on him
and go with what ever the current flavor of a crisis is at the moment and do him in
(intresting how gary and him whine like little kids when they get told no)so just keep telling them no and soon they will learn or leave hopefuly leave

I’ve known coppers that have been injured severally enough and cannot continue on the job, they not only fight there injury every day, they also fight the depression that comes from that fact.

Then there is one......one that I truly believe was a questionable claim. Years later they still run him through doctors and they keep saying he's disabled. So what is the fucking point.

If anything, it showed that due to his injury, he is stuck! Low blow by the reporters for mentioning his personal financial troubles! What the hell does that have to do with abusing the system?

My back never healed properly and now I'm heading back under the knife. Please, by all means, follow me around and watch me try to do any everyday task. Cutting the lawn means two hours laying flat on my back near tears. Grocery shopping means leaning on the cart for support like I'm 80 years old when I'm half that age. Blah blah blah, I know. Just beyond frustrated with my situation and daily pain, then knowing I'm going to be looked at as a scammer by some is enough to make a guy insane! *Clear six figures after taxes, $750k 3500 s/f house/condo, $500k to $1m+ in the 401k, second car and nice suv, take nice vacations all over, great job with a great company, life is so good! Fuck the Police!*

"You cops are just dumb and lazy high schoolers with guns... You make what? $50k to $60K to get shot at, run over, beat on. You work six days a week in a toxic work environment. You live in a $250k,1500 s/f shack in Dunning, Clearing etc... Blah-blah-blah..."

Then? The economy took a protracted shit... May all involved rot in hell.

Those great companies closed up with less than a moment's notice.

Those fat 401k's evaporated into thin air.

Those nice big houses & condo's got swallowed up in the rising tide.

Those "good" jobs disappeared with those good companies.

Of course through no fault of the people who got hurt... But?

Then the whispers began...

"Hey! Who the fuck do you Cops think YOU are to have and we ain't gots? You Cops make too much money. Why should you Cops get a pension and we're eating the skeletal remains of our 401k? Who said you Cops can get to retire young and we gotta keep working?"

Then...

"Fuck you Cops and your Union! Nobody else has collective bargaining so why should you Cops have it? You guys complain all the time and we're sick of it! We pay your salary and pension! Rahm needs to fire YOU all and hire US! We'll work for HALF with no benefits and get twice as much work done! GAAAHHH! We HATE you greedy Cops!

Now?

"Take away their disability and all the other cush benefits and make them work for nothing like we're doing!"

Also?

People who never gave a hoot in hell about The Police or Policing are trying to get on the job...

That grieves us to no end because people like that detract from the overall purity of purpose and drive needed to be a good street cop. This is the wrong vocation just because "I need a job."

Meh... Just the musings of a typical big, dumb old gray-haired Chicago Blue-Shirt... Strong back and a weak mind if you believe the stuff in the papers...

All in all...

After the bullshit blows away, it's nothing but jealousy at our relative stability.

As long as there is swath of real estate on the south western shore of Lake Michigan called Chicago, there will always be a need for CPD.

Whether they want to admit it or not...

The Rahm-Times conveniently omitted Officer Mullins in their first negative disability series.
Officer Mullins will be omitted again, no doubt. His image with the public creates so much sympathy that they would not generate the desired negative effects.
So the assault on the CPD continues. What gives! We are not the bad guys.
Turning the public against the teachers and now the police. Well Charter schools are the goal for the mayor and his financial supporters.(Walton family foundation)
What is the goal for the CPD? It is not in the best interest of the public or the kids to allow crime to escalate but it is for the Mayor? Sinister things are at work here. America's deadly city by choice. The choice was made by the Mayor.

Let's face it, we are our own worst enemy, we have scores of officers who love to hit the medical every chance they get, for really b s injuries. You know and I know it. These are the same people who are afraid to work the streets, love to join management, hiding there whole career from doing the job they swore they would do. You are not the police! In your mind, you feel sorry for yourself, seek sympathy from unknowing people and disgrace the department without you even realizing it. The sun times has a point, which they will use to go against us come contract time, this is not just a coincidence these stories are coming out. This is like the officer you hear about who gets greedy and takes more than he needs from the local restaurant or business who really like the police. Take this as you want, but it's the truth, the police are not the entitled ones in this day and age.

You know it is a shame the Officers that are legitimately hurt in the line of duty fall under any scrutiny over these articles. However if they really are hurt than it should never affect them, where as some DOG ASS scamming rat bastards can be investigated and turn off the spigot. Let me remind those of you that say "leave them alone," it is US paying for them, not the City. Now as for the posters mentioning Section 8, SSI, Disability, Link, etc., etc., you couldn't be more right on, but nobody has the balls to report on those abuses. We can't get voter I.D., or Public Aid drug testing, why on earth would they report on real abuse? Look at the "drama" they are making of Romney's recent recorded comments, is he wrong???? He might not be a perfect candidate but he is sure better than the current occupant of the White House. There will always be shitheads trying to scam while the rest of us work, but at least we can try to minimize it.

Rather than blaming the journalists how about blaming the mutts that screw the system and make every single cop look bad. It's time to start changing from inside. Everyone knows at least a dozen liabilities to the department and never say a word. At some point things have to change. This stuff will ruin the contract and pension.

9/18/2012 03:01:00 AM

Never say a word? There isn't much you CAN say when those very same liabilities are protected and coddled and rewarded by the gold stars.

I have had seven duty related injuries that required surgery. I am now retired after 30 plus yrs on the job. I am in constant pain.

Most retired police officers are somewhat hobbled by years of broken bones and car accidents.

Police Officers have shorter life expectancy, higher divorce rates, and higher suicide rates than the average American.

Then there are the officers that have been shot or stabbed.

I consider myself lucky when I look at guys like Jim Mullens who's life was turned upside down.

During my time on the job no fewer than 50 coppers gave their life for this city.

The wife or husband, children, and parents of those 50 police officers lost their husband or wife, mother or father, son or daughter. They also pay.

So the great investigators at the sun times found some possible abuses.

All I have to tell them is,

Fu-- Y--.

Oh wait... That might mean Policemen being cast in a sympathetic light.

Viva Hate... Carry on.

More than a hunch...

Someone in the mayor's office is giving directed information on how to word FOI requests to get all this curiously specific info on the what, how much and how many regarding Coppers medical info...

Leaving bits of Coppers flesh to lead the media buzzards to what they're looking for all for the sake of *Police are your enemy* propaganda.

That does not cover the FOP. We have had a wellness program longer than the rest and the FOP asked for many of the things in it. No penalty in case you haven't noticed the $50 penalty that does not come out of your check.

Good health is good, I know, there is always something sinister in city initiatives but the union has been active in scheduling and promoting health fairs.

I retire soon and I would like to live to collect as many pension checks as I can. I am OK with the wellness thing as the FOP has worked to structure it.

The entire statement released by police:

“The Chicago Police Department today announced that a 10th District Officer was arrested by the Bureau of Internal Affairs for accepting a bribe payment to dismiss a pending criminal case. The investigation is ongoing.”

FUCK THE RIBBONS!!!! I already look like a Mexicacn war general..

That's only about 3-4 days off in comp time mind you!

-So this would give incentive to US to NOT hit the medical

-It may prevent those that do once or twice a year for that extra day off or two when not so sick!

-Yes I know we DON'T have the man power for getting that time off request in....BUT its a start for our crack negotiating teams at contract time that don't have any ideas on what to barter on for US and may spark some incentive for the troops that have limited comp time on the books!

Well detective you must not have been to a crime seen in Englewood, because numerous times, and a couple times with street deputies on scene, dude has fired shots in the area or at the crime scene.

Honestly, a story about the continuous SSI and Welfare abuse would make a much better story but that wouldnt be "politicaly correct" right?

That and the fact that a reporter might get a bullet in the ass when he starts getting in to their business.

Then there is one......one that I truly believe was a questionable claim. Years later they still run him through doctors and they keep saying he's disabled. So what is the fucking point.

Good point. A good journalist would have asked those questions. The only way anyone gets disability is after the CITY approves it. If your doctor that the city sends you to says you can't work, why is it the P.O.'s fault?

And what would happen if some copper fought to come back after the doctor says no, and sustains an injury that leaves him ( god forbid) paralyzed?

Yeah, right. Offer an incentive not to go on the medical. I really want to be in a room or a car with you or depend on you to cover my back when you drag your sick feverish ass to work just to get some comp time. Comp time you can never use anyway. Great idea. STFU and GFY!

Doctor diagnosis him with TB!,
I call med. sect., they tell me to just go to my own dr and get tested.
Thank god I didn't contract that crap.graph

I thought for years that the city would end most sick time and the pension fund would end most disability pay and make employees take disability insurance. Private industry does this and many cities do this for their employees, even those injured in the line of duty. I still think this is possible in this town, hope not, but think it is.The days that employers took care of their employees is long gone.Thank god for unions so they can save what they can or things will get much worse.

Fuck the Sun-Times and our Mayor. I'm one of those who is on disability and can never work again or do one tenth of the things I used to be able to do. Because I fought with a fucking savage for 15 minutes before help arrived. Just thankful I'm alive. There are abusers, but there are many who wish they were back on the job instead of putting up with the pain we do every day. I wish I could have returned. Everything I enjoyed before being injured are things I can no longer do. I can't work and I can't enjoy the things I did off duty. I know there are many who are in my position. If anybody thinks disability is a great thing, think again. Maybe for a few but not for many. Being a cop takes it's toll on your body. By the time most retire you have more aches and pains than if you did any other job. We fight, fall, break bones, and are hit by bricks and other objects every day. Maybe these fucking reporters should do our job for 6 months, then write their asinine stories. That doesn't even factor in the amount of cops killed in the line of duty. What other profession has those numbers other than the military.

Here's a news flash for those of you, REPORTERS, who just don't get it. POLICE WORK IS NOT LIKE YOUR OFFICE JOB. That's why a pension was set up. To take care of these people knowing that they get injured A LOT while doing their jobs.

Stop blowing Rahm and the rest of these politicians who want to bash public safety and take away benefits or you'll surely end up with the service you deserve. You may be getting a bit of that right now, eh? Try taking the family downtown and get near the Red Line.

it amazes me the difference in time a person is off work for an injury based on who they work for and who is paying the bill. Statistics show that for some reason the injuries public employees receive on the job take the longest to heal compared to those who work in private industry and amazingly those individuals whom are self employed heal the fastest-who would have guessed.

CITE YOUR SOURCES FOR THIS..

Funny thing is I remember her being bashed on here and telling people she knew what she was doing. I got family and friends in CTU, people that knew her when she was still teaching. She is no crony and she is no idiot. FOP needs to take notes. Then again, interesting thought...a lot of guys have left CPD and became part of the regime on the government side. I don't know that it's as prevalent with former CPS teachers becoming aldermen and all that jazz i.e. I don't think Rahm hates FOP people like he hates CTU people.

People do not realize disabled people have to exercise at a level recommended to their age group to function as normally as possible, so competing in tournaments is another way to strengthen their broken bodies and in some cases minds to get through the daily activities of life.
