Crime is down!!!
  • Finally some good news! ...as reported from THE ONION

"Chicago Public Schools Celebrate Fifth Straight Day Without Any Student Violence"

"CHICAGO—Jubilant Chicago Public Schools officials announced Friday that, for five straight days now, there has not been a single act of student violence in any of the city’s 675 public schools. “Our classrooms and hallways are safer now than they’ve ever been,” said CPS chief executive Jean-Claude Brizard, happily noting that there have been no reported instances of beatings, stabbings, sexual assaults, or shootings in any of the city’s public schools this week. “We’ve had no incidents of weapons being brought onto school property, nor has anyone had to break up a fistfight between students. We’ve all had to work together for this, but it’s paid off. Let’s keep it up!” At press time, a gunfight on Chicago’s South Side had reportedly claimed the lives of three 16-year-old boys."

SCC, Did you notice CeaseFire has renamed itself and it's doing a big media campaign to publicize the fact.
At least, NOW we know where our million dollars has gone.

The Onion is a funny newspaper, having read it while attending college here in Chicago. Whats really funny is how some people think the stories are real. Off subject though, there was a post from Friday here on the blog about a cop mentioning the behaviorial program and the way FOP didn't do anything when his/her civil rights were violated and the City of Chicago then relented and apologized. I just wanted to add that the FOP did try to help the officers by filing a grievance and the FOP did win the grievance getting the City to send an apology letter to all who were involved. There was no monetary settlement. BUT, there were some officers, one that I personally referred to my cousin who is an attorney specializing in civil rights violations that did receive monetary settlements. I know for a fact the officer that I referred to my cousin got a settlement this year for over a hundred thousand dollars. The officer then vacationed in Mexico, brought me back a couple of nice souvenirs and the last I heard sent a postcard to 35th Street thanking the idiots for the windfall. Now, that's funny.

My first, maybe my second, post: LOL.

Honestly, no matter how much money you take from me ---100 more, 1,000 more,4,000 more--- there is a cultural, societal problem in schools.

Teachers! I defend you. Yes. Me. You have zero parental participation in some classrooms (schools). We defend your job. You work your asses off. You are abused, and you deserve your salary.

My position on this one is mixed. It is not pro or anti. I thought the teachers looked good - demonstrating. Look, many teachers are underpaid, and the teachers whose students are the worst performing may be the absolutely most underpaid on the planet.

It is time to clean house at Chicago Board of Education.
Nothing is ever going to happen until the tax payers of Chicago go on strike.
Also time to clean house at City Hall.
Who would have thought conditions could be worse after Richard II left office.
Bet this keeps Rahm from running for president. But then, are we stuck with his sorry self here in Chicago?

I now have no doubt that the CTU strike was the right thing to do. There's an annoying TV commercial sponsored by something that calls itself EDUCATION REFORM NOW ADVOCACY that slams the teachers for going on strike. Their "argument" is that the Tribune and Sun-Times says so.

Fuck that outfit and the scoundrels at the Fibune and Scum-Times. I'll take the "credibility" of PRAVDA any day over those City Hall propaganda suck-asses.

CTU rocks.

@12:55 the only reason I read the comments was to see how many people think this is real. The Onion is a joke newspaper. You see, its funny because the teachers are on strike, hence the lack of violence.

Page 21, print edition of the 14 September scum-times...

Boston Teacher's Union ran a full page ad giving Rahm al Ghoul a hard backhand slap in his eye for his distortion and misstating the facts about their contract and contract negotiation as a weapon of convenience in his relentless propaganda campaign against CTU.

Being the sociopathic, myopic asshole and North Shore shit-ass, Rahm is now fully unmasked.

Funny... For all his money, power and influence, he can't hide the fact that he is a failed human being with the equivalent impulse control of the dogs out on the streets shooting at the Police...

All this is the fault of that "small minded" man Rahm Emmanuel who can't admit when he is wrong due to his over inflated ego. Like Rahm said when he was campaigning for Mayor and YObama endorsed him, he IS a "Public Servant" not Emperor.

Right On Brother!!!!!

This outfit 'ERNA' is a political arm of the Democratic Party that is trying to break the unions and union jobs in my opinion.

Read more from their site:

They appear to set up units in major cities (washington, new york, boston, etc.), collecting donations from the public and other liberal dems, and pay themselves big bucks to run the scam and run media ads degrading the unions.

Rahm, we caught you, you thief!

You are oh so right. A strike has no adverse impact on them. Very few, in my experience, really like school and are happy when they are able to forgo it. Kids will pray for a blizzard for a few snow days. They will Pray to god for some natural disaster to close the schools. They will burn candles to bring death to a hated teacher. Some will hope to contract a serious but short duration illness to evade a scheduled test. A Prof. of mine said that education is the only thing we buy that we actually want less of.
The kids will be fine no matter how long the strike lasts. Hey, it might even slow the rate of the decrease in the increase come next July.

Karen Lewis love-fest during teacher's strike = Supt. McCarthy love-fest during NATO.

Avoid embarassment in the long run -- which is only a week or two these days. Beware emotional overflow.

Here is the woman everyone is swooning over these past several days -- another Obama administration "Choom Gang" puffer.

You won't see full-face photos of her in our local press, that's for sure. >shudder<

"A Chicago-born former drug rehabilitation counsellor who then dropped out of medical school in Barbados before becoming a high school chemistry teacher, Lewis, 58, has led the teachers union since June 2010..."

"Speaking at a North West Teaching for Social Justice conference in Seattle, Washington in October 2011, Karen Lewis, President of the Chicago Teachers Union, pacing up and down a stage, delivered a sarcastic tirade.

‘I am the only black woman in the class of 1974 from Dartmouth College,’ she said. ‘ Woo. People are impressed. Let me tell you, I spent those years smoking lots of weed, self-medicating. Self-medicating, thank you. '

When there was laughter from the crowd, she added: ‘Sounds like you all did too. Oh, I’m sorry there are kids here! I wasn’t supposed to say that right? Too late!’
