No One is Asking Questions?

Anyone see this?
  • A 13-year-old girl plunged through a skylight and fell 25 feet onto a pallet at a Northwest Side building but escaped serious injury, police said.

The girl was on the roof of Mohawk Electric Construction Company in the 5500 block of West Montrose Avenue with a 13-year-old boy who lives nearby when the accident happened at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, police said.

She stepped onto a brittle plastic skylight, shattering it and plunging 25 feet onto a wooden pallet, police said.

She was able to get up and unlock the door as the boy called his father, who called 911, police said.

A couple of commentators noticed the questions that weren't asked (or answered):

  • Was just over at Fibune's breaking news site. They're running a story titled "Police: `One lucky little girl' survives skylight fall"

Shouldn't it read "Burglary interrupted by the law of gravity"??

  • I was thinking the same thing. What was she and another kid doing on the roof to begin with. That is the real story.

Next will be the lawsuit like with the kid that broke into the old Ravenswood Hospital and fell.

Criminal Trespass at the very least, right?

Could have been two kids going up on a roof to make out.

Burglary planned? Maybe, but I'd guess the first is more likely.

Graffiti?

Who knows what the Shadow knows?

About a month ago some Mutant 16 year old fell after breaking into the closed Ravenswood hospital. Now Mom and Dad are suing the owners of the property for not having the building secured to keep morons like their son out.

You got a criminal trespass, let's not make it more than what it is.

Does Illinois have "Breaking and Entering" as a charge? Criminal Damage to Property? Hell, I'd even push for defacing property by bleeding on my innocent pallet.
And let me ask you to watch the story of the state's Attorney being attacked in the park for challenging the two armed [with a broken bottle] robbers. Betcha THAT crime doesn't get knocked down if he runs into the jags while he's working in Juvy court!

mental note to self, remember to store pointy just below skylight, perhaps a few old rakes or hay forks.

I would guess they went on the roof to make out, have sex, or fool around. But they should both be charged for criminal trespass to property and criminal damage to property at the least.

Years on this job makes everyone cynical, but as a white kid growing up on the north side I spent plenty of time on roofs and other places I shouldn't have been. If I got locked up for half of those occurrences my life would probably be very different (not for the better). A good asskicking by my father when needed helped. Bottom line is teens do stupid shit sometimes. No more, no less.

Ah, memories.
While working at a south side H.S. a student tried to " cut " class by jumping out of a 2nd story window onto a 1st floor roof, needless to say she missed and broke a leg and both ankles.
In my case RPT. for cause of injury I wrote " sudden deceleration ", Sgt. laughed and signed same.
Seemed everyone had a sense of humor back then.

No " B & E" as a charge.
Only Burglary & Residential Burglary.
CDP is a "nice option" though. it's not reportable as a part I offense on the UCRs.

I had something similar years ago, and I said, "The victim was defenestrated..."

It's a real word, look it up and I waited all my life for a chance to use it in a real sentence. Now I used it again.

Advice from my Sergeant, "Kid, never use wordz wit more dan tree sylibles in a case report."

The caller was the owner of the building. His son let the girl on the roof, they were both there. No mystery, just junior and his girlfriend acting stupid.

When I was that age, roofs were indeed a great make-out spot. If a girl was game to go up to the roof of the Granada Theatre or the old hospital just south of Lunt on the west side of Clark, you were in luck.
