CA 49 Article

  • There’s nothing I enjoy more than seeing elected officials admit they can’t be trusted.

And that’s pretty much what Illinois legislators have done by placing a constitutional amendment on the November election ballot.

The amendment, if passed, would require a three-fifths vote of each chamber of the Legislature (House and Senate) to pass an increase in pension benefits for public employees.

The measure not only would effect the Legislature but all other government bodies in Illinois (counties, townships, municipalities, school districts, etc.).

If a municipality wants to increase employee pension benefits as part of a labor agreement, 60 percent of its city council or village board would have to agree.
So this is pretty much an act of cowardice on the part of the legislature to further insulate them from having to make any sort of difficult decisions.  They can always claim "we needed 60% of the chamber to pass anything," and then hide behind everyone else's inaction.  What a group of assholes.

The elected officials need to made employees at will like the majority of the middle class workers. An employee at will is one that can be fired at any time for any reason.

These clowns push off decisions until after elections knowing that if the taxpayers are upset about their choice it's ha-ha sad day for you I'm here four another four years. And by the time four years are up most people forget all about what ever it was that made them angry.

Cowards don't even begin to describe it.

It is all B.S. ladies & gentlemen. Nothing gets passed in the Illinois G.A. unless the 4 tops agree to it. Madigan, Cullerton, Radagno & Cross tell theri members what to vote on, period. This new legislation is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

The bottom line is to vote NO ! Tell everyone you know to vote no as well. Quit complaining and wringing your hands. A few of us who are so inclined should start writing letters to the editor of the papers. Let's see if they get published.
If you aren't registered ..... get off yer duff and register and go and vote. Dont blame Mikey. He's not worth the time. This is an example of the politicians failing to accept the blame for not keeping up with the payments. Now they want to bury their responsibility and stab us in the back. If this CA passes, you can kiss our pensions AND our bargaining rights away for good.

I reside on the NW side of the City and am fortunate that my Democratic State Senator and my Democratic Representative have Republican opponents. Guess who is going to receive my vote?

It sure will not be those that enable Madigan and Cullerton to continue stealing!

When this gets voted down, the politicians will have their built-in excuse for their ineptitude... gee, well, we tried to do something about the pensions, but YOU voted against it in the last election.

Lawyer/politicians are the worst pond scum ever to be unleashed on planet Earth!!!

Has our FOP Lodge contacted the State Central Lodge? They can easily have a statewide notice to be sent out to all Illinois lodges and members. Hell they seem to be abe to send out our lodge dues to all of us. WTF?

CA49 is Illinois way of doing what Wisconsin did "Kill public unions" so that crooked politicians can have full control again and have all public employees indebted to them for their jobs and pay. Just like the old days.

You forget the obvious, you can vote to decrease the pension benefits too...

This doesnt only apply to the state government, but also the local government. i.e. the city counsel only has to have 60% vote to change your contract.

Thanks so much to the small group of voters in Madigan's district who keep putting him in time and time again, as he fu--s up the entire State.

He hides in plain sight. Never agreeing to any in depth interview on the decisions he makes while running the State. Yes, he runs the State. Quinn only thinks he runs it.

So by repeatedly getting elected with no opposition to speak of, and not having to answer to anyone, King Mike makes decisions that benefit Him and his buddies.

Screw the people of Il, screw the credit rating, and screw the fiscal catastrophe that is about to happen in the next few years.

My District will keep voting me in regardless of what I do or don't do because I flip them a few scraps.

I'm Mike Madigan. King of Illinois.

Naah. The supermajority idea could have just been passed as a law. The point of amending the constitution is that one obscure and vaguely phrased sentence at the end that lets them loot the promised pensions, which is currently forbidden by the constitution.

Sounds like a great idea to me. The more politicians that the police union has to bribe the less likely it is that these ridiculous pension increase will be passed. No they just need to close the loophole that let these guys inflate their pensions right before retirement.

I got a mailing in my house today urging voters to VOTE YES on this crap!

This is a sneak attack by Rahm, Madigan and his Ilk! Rotten Basterds!

Yet, coppers continue to bring activity for these jagoffs! You are goofs that bring anything in!

I live in Joliet and I got a mailer on this today.. I called my sister who lives in Chicago we have been wondering for years just WHO decides all this BS.. OTHER THAN the Police and Firemen whom lay their lives on the line daily..we are of the same thought ALL increases FOR PUBLIC workers should have to be voted on by the people who will be paying the tab.. THE TAXPAYERS..right now as things are going families are FLEEING IL ... My husband and I are looking on getting out the taxes..fees..toll increases..etc are to burdensome.. and the DEBT because some joker made a deal that was NOT in the best interest of MY TAX dollars while pissing all the revenue away..

There is undecipherable language in there that will mean whatever they want it to mean. I am not a Philadelphia lawyer and thus, cannot begin to interpret that thing.

Just keep it simple, if Magian and Cullerton and Jesse White and Quinn want it, then I am against it. We don't need to have any more info than that.

But it will pass because the majority of voters will see "public pension" and "prevent" and vote "Hell Yes!"

Police are insignificant as a voting bloc. Coppers don't even register to vote in any great numbers much less vote.

Less than half of all police officers in Chicago are even registered and can be safely ignored. Cops give ridiculous reasons for not registering and not voting, like "I don't want to get picked for jury duty."

And that mailer will still be sitting on most copper's kitchen tables or dresser tops three months from now, new, untouched and unread.

The most many will be able to do is to go on the blog after a night of drinking and post "fuck the FOP, they do 'nuthin."

Negotiate! If they want to cut our benefits, then get rid of all merit promotions completely, have promotion tests be graded and lists put up the day the exams are over! And my GOD, get rid of residence requirements, with the pension and benefit cuts we will no longer be able to live in Chicago! We are already taxed and pay fees to the hilt! Wake FOP!!!!!! What is the FOP's plan, hello, does anybody know?

Eliminate all pensions and any benefits for every elected office, period. No elected official should have any compensation that extends beyond their term of office. And cut most of the pay. Elected office should be a civic duty, not a job.

Say NO to all Democrates and CA49 they are the ones with the give aways and giving in to the entitlement crowd all while sitting and enjoying food and booze from the diamond box the state pays for at the Cell.
I't the OBama way spread the wealth from the middle class to the low lifes and let the rich get richer.

Not much of a choice when both the Democrats and the Republicans are pushing for pension reform. Ask you neighbors, friends, and even relatives if they would rather have pension reform or have their taxes raised? We have no friends on this issue and in the years to come I'm afraid pensions are in trouble. Chicago and the rest of the state is broke.

A message from Blue Cross Blue Shield

Professor Emeritus John W. Hill, JD, PhD
Kelley School of Business, Indiana University

MEDICARE

Look clearly at the 2014 rate compared to the 2013 rate.

For those of you who are on Medicare, read the following. It's short, but
important and you probably haven't heard about it in the Mainstream News:

"The per person Medicare Insurance Premium will increase from the present
Monthly Fee of $96.40, rising to:

$104.20 in 2012

$120.20 in 2013

And

$247.00 in 2014."

These are Provisions incorporated in the Obamacare Legislation, purposely delayed so as not to confuse the 2012 Re-Election Campaigns. Send this to all Seniors that you know, so they will know who's throwing them under the bus.

------------------------------------

The only employees that would be kept are relatives of the political class. We're you sleeping during the Sorich trial by any chance? The smart employees, who the political wonders are afraid of, would be the first out the door.

Be careful what you ask for.

NO! YOU'RE WRONG!
The ammendment would OPEN the benefits for increases or decreases. Once agreed upon, it works both ways.
