Schools Make Cuts

In order to pay for the negotiated raises, they finally found fat to trim:
  • Chicago Public Schools said Friday it will pay for this year’s teacher raises by reducing central office spending and restructuring debt, making no mention of closing any schools.

The contract deal, ratified this week by Chicago Teachers Union members, added $103 million to the current school year’s budget, district officials said. Among the planned savings are curbing $4 million in professional memberships and subscriptions, leaving $8 million in non-teacher openings vacant, selling $15 million in surplus property and restructuring debt for another $42 million.
So if all this was known prior to the strike, why wasn't it done to avoid missing 8 days of school?  Oh yeah, Rahm needed a strike in order to break the CTU, but failed miserably and ended up spending how many millions on TV ads that claim he "won" some great battle with the teachers.  Major backfire there.

Maybe they can have some of the school patrol officers work in the front office of the schools too. They can also shove brooms up their ass and shitcan the floor sweepers. Great idea Rahm! And the hell with school districts, they can reorganize on the grid system. Garbage trucks can start taking kids to school in the extra time. And why not internet classes? Oh, I remember, it is hard to get the free breakfast and lunch that way. And free babysitting. Sorry, I forgot where I was.

Left-Wing Teachers Want Convicted Cop-Killer Set Free

The memo has gone out, the date has been saved. This coming Tuesday, radicals of all stripes will descend upon the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C. to rally in support of convicted cop killer

Officially known as "Occupy the Justice Department," the event is endorsed by the usual group of malcontents, including "*Educators for Mumia Abu-Jamal" - a collection of left-wing teachers from across the country.

Among Mumia's many well-wishers in the K-12 community is Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association President Bob Peterson, the entire Chicago Teachers Union, and the Rethinking Schools crew who produce anti-American lesson plans and teaching materials that are used in countless classrooms.

All throughout my college years (back in the 70's) I thought my professors were too radically left. I was a left of center guy back then, as most of us were. We thought we wanted to change things for the better, age and experience made most of us wiser. Even as a young man, I saw the indoctrination attempts of lots of my educators.

I've watched with some fascination the way these radicals have been mainstreamed. Television and the Media have played a huge part after the 'educators' soften up the youngsters. When the likes of Bill Ayers, Al Sharpton and Reverend Wright are not shunned, something is wrong with the way we think. All this forgiveness is nonsense.

There are great teachers out there. There are some radical loons in there too. Unfortunately, they seem to be in charge. Too bad.

Now what if scumbag killed a teacher? Would they be so full of mercy and compassion? Typical shithead, tell a huge lie loud enough and long enough until liberal goofs believe it and take up your cause. Nice try. Politics is about attaining goals, not making friends.

We need to stand with all other public employees against the attacks by this country's rulers.

Let the teachers get broken and see how we fair with vampire plutocrats like Emanuel, Rauner, Pritzker etc....

Stand with other working people.

Defeat Obama.

Prepare to fight Romney tooth and nail once we get rid of the Chicago crowd.

All of the above mentioned fucks hate you, me, and everyone else who isn't working for $8 an hour.

And for fuck's sake, get off your ass and vote no on CA 49!

The BEST way to get a handle on what the schools are teaching our kids would be to ALL return to school.. I went back to school in the late 80's not only did I fly through the admissions testing.. I had a few run in's with some professors who were WAY left of center.. it was a good experience since many kids sit and just listen to them without pointing out where they think these lefty's are wrong.. but IF someone who is more the age of the professor speaks up these kids are MORE than willing to challenge them also.. problem is we have ALLOWED the professors to take over without a fight.. same goes for K-12 PARENTS have to be aware of WHAT is going on in the classrooms.. internet classes isn't all that bad of an idea... it would also help educate the part of society that gets a free check without working if THEY had to watch and feed their own kids and make sure they were watching.. it could be done over the television.. with school work being turned in once a month at the nearest school... Food for thought..

Here's some info on Wesley Cook, the thug who murdered Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner on December 9th 1981.

"On Monday, March 26, 2012 the Pennsylvania Supreme Court rejected Mumia Abu-Jamal’s appeal of his capital murder conviction.

On August 13, 2012, Judge Pamela P. Dembe filed an Order to sentence Mumia to life in prison without parole."

Honorable Pamela P. Dembe is the President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia.

This murdering piece of crap has been afforded every accommodation that the American system of jurisprudence can offer. He has been convicted over and over again. He has been sentenced to death, and the death sentence vacated. He has been sentenced to life in prison multiple times.

In the mean time his widow, their families, his former co-workers and the current members of the PPD have been dragged to court to relive the nightmare over and over again.

During that same period of time, Cook/mumia has received an education, written newspaper and magazine articles, been supported by the usual line-up of liberal celebrities (ed asner, susan sarandon, mike ferrell, etc etc) and turned into a perverted version of a celebrity himself. Oh, and every time someone buys a paul newman product (salad dressing, sauces, popcorn and condiments) the "free mumia" fund gets some of the money.

This case makes me sick. Physically sick. This guy murdered a police officer and gets treated like he's Nelson Mandela.

If the CTU is supporting this guy the membership (including numerous members of my family, neighbors and friends) they should be ashamed. And vilified.

Katey Kakes, if you read this please let the coppers and people in Philly know that I am sorry for any support offered to this chunk of dung.

God Bless P.O. Danny Faulkner, his family and the PPD.

If CPS really wanted to save money and free up money for teacher raises, CPS would do audits on coaches' pay and hours, make them swipe in/out, and pay them for the hours they actually coach.

"Public League coaches all get paid the same rate, $24.10 an hour for fiscal year 2013, according to the newly negotiated contract between the Chicago Public Schools and its teachers. The hourly rate rises to $24.58 and then $25.08 in the next two years.

But all CPS head coaches aren’t treated equally. Some (basketball, football) get paid for 240 hours work per season ($5,784 in fiscal 2013), while others (swimming, wrestling, track and field, gymnastics, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, water polo, lacrosse) are compensated for 200 hours ($4,820). Near the bottom of the salary ladder are cross country, tennis and golf, whose head coaches are paid for just 65 hours ($1,566.50)." (http://highschoolsports.suntimes.com/home/15566499-390/cross-country-cps-coaches-pay-doesnt-add-up.html)

I'm in the building at Prosser and there's no way our football coach (the infamous Jeffrey S. Bates) puts in 240 hours, especially since he does nothing but have two meetings prior to the 1st practice. Bates doesn't scout or watch any film on opponents and there's NO off-season program for the football team. And, Bates did the same thing as basketball coach.

Also, Bates is somehow getting stipends for being a basketball and softball coach. Yet, he doesn't coach either sport. Who's watching the henhouse here? Our Principal Kenneth Hunter and AD Martin Walsh blindly sign off on Bates' hours and don't question anything. Why is this? Isn't there some kind of fraud here?

As for Bates being the head football at Prosser, here's what I learned and ballparked if you calculate the hours actually put in for practices and games together:

(5) 2-hr practices before Prosser's 1st game = (10) hours

(4) 2-hr. practices before each of their NEXT 5 games = (40) hours (add 16 more hours for the last 2 games = (56) total hours of practice time for the season)

(6) game days where the team is together for (4) hours = (24) hours (add 8 more hours for last 2 games = (32) hours of game day time for the season)

So, Bates wil end up with (98) total hours for the 2012 season not (240) hours. Bates should be paid $2362 for the 2012 season, not $5784.

That's $3422 which should be going to other coaches in other sports, especially with Prosser being 0-6, being outscored by 318-6 this season for an average of 53-1 in their games this year, and all while Bates talks on his cell phone during games and let's his grossly underpaid and more unqualified assistant coaches run practices during the week. Plus, Bates isn't certified by ISBE, doesn't have an ASEP (American Sports Education Program) or any other football coaching certificate, and didn't complete the CPS mandated concussion training program.

Do you want some irony in Bates overpayment as Prosser's head football coach?

In my 'very fair' calculations, Bates is being over paid $3422 for the 2012 season. And the $3422 overpayment to Bates = (2) coaches' salaries of $1566.50 ($3133) for bottom of the salary ladder sports of cross country, tennis and golf. Or, a Bates's $3422 overpayment is a little more than 2/3's the salary of a swimming, wrestling, track and field, gymnastics, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, water polo, lacrosse, who are compensated for 200 hours ($4,820).

"Schools Make Cuts" is theater - I think the entire interaction between Rahm and CTU was choreography. Five months of discussion, then out of the blue Lewis goes on the radio and says we want 30% raises because we have been Bullied Belittled and Betrayed. Then two weeks later - a mutual FU dinner between Rahm and Karen. No whispers, no leaks, no word from an arbitrator just fireworks.

I don't believe it happened spontaneously. Rahm started as a fundraiser in politics. He has run around with and supported CTU, AFT, and their other affiliated unions for twenty years. They are on the same side of table and have been for years.

Organized labor needed a shot in the arm to get re-energized during this election cycle. People are demoralized and pissed off because the gravy train from the Feds under the "stimulus" label is running dry. What do you do to fire up the base: find a common enemy (so he has been there with you for years is not so big of a deal); start some fireworks and make some demands. So, big deal, kids have an additional week of summer vacation in September. What happens at the end - you get 16% over four years, commitments on job security and more leverage over CPS when schools close.

What is the downside - basically none. There is no chance Illinois is going for Romney, the parents and citizens are broadly pro-union and certainly pro-teacher, and Quinn isn't Scott Walker. Rahm looks a little like a loser but, so what, he exacts a promise that CTU doesn't support an opponent for re-election and gets AFT and IFT lobbyists to support him when he squeezes the legislators downstate when he needs money for CTA, RTA, schools, gaming expansion. He may have even gotten some support for a presidential bid in 2016. Rahm also gets to wear the "stand up to those tough unions" jacket when he positions himself as a moderate democrat. Hey, he even got a shout from Paul Ryan. Wow, doesn't he seem like a Clintonesque New Democrat? Was there a real political risk to Rahm for making a deal with the CTU - no.

He also has cover when the "we have no choice but to raise property taxes" happens. And it will. CPS is $1 billion in deficit, the City is $640 million in deficit, etc. Budget games may push the tax raise day out but the pension holiday end is just around the corner.

In the meantime, government unions get the base fired up and help erase an embarrassment in Wisconsin. Do you guys think that Lake Forest, Highland Park, Evergreen Park would be striking if CTU got spanked?

I am not a policeman. But, I can tell that there is a huge difference between every other government union and FOP. In my view, the federal, city and county administrations are openly hostile to law enforcement. (The state is indifferent except when using police as an excuse for raising taxes.) FOP and other police unions are small relative to unions like AFSCME and SEIU (prison guards excepted).

Police are going to have a much harder time than teachers in making a deal. And remember, you deserve it ... after all, you deserve to be in a special place in hell for all of those fabricated drug arrests. /sarc off. Hmm... where did I hear that????

THIS is what "restructured debt" means:

Joe has two credit cards. Both are maxed out. He can't afford to make the minimum payment on either this month.

So, he applies for, and receives, a new credit card.

He uses the new card to pay the minimum payments on the first two cards.

Then, feeling flush with all of his new credit, he buys that new bass boat he's been looking at.

For the record, Nelson Mandela is a commie piece of shit. The ANC might as well be Stalinists.

Costs must be cut, but the multibillion dollar question is "where?" I've talked with some Springfield wonks, and they deeply believe, religiously almost, that the most abused support programs like LINK, free school meals, Section 8, state Medicaid etc are untouchable. So that leaves what? Raise taxes? Shit, the only people left here then will be government employees.

We're on the Titanic, we've hit the iceburg and Madigan/Cullerton/Quinn/etc are arguing about the deck chairs.
