Rahm's Budget

Well thank goodness it wasn't unanimous.  You'd hate to see anyone thinking these spineless assholes were a rubber stamp or something:
  • It wasn’t the shut-out he pitched during his rookie season, but Mayor Rahm Emanuel got the win Thursday on the most important City Council vote of the year.

By a vote of 46-to-3 with Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th) missing, aldermen approved Emanuel’s no-new taxes, “calm-before-the-storm” 2013 budget.

The vote on the $6.54 billion budget clears the decks for the main event: a painful solution to the city’s pension crisis that will require both new revenues and concessions from city employees.
The battle has just begun and Rahm is going to play "scorched earth" with us.

Oh, and it sure was nice of Sandi Jackson to represent her constituents so very ably from somewhere else.  As someone pointed out, another Jackson collecting a check for a no-show job.

I agree Rham is a pos, but every one seems to forget the reason why the pension is in such a bad place lays solely on Daley. He is the person who underfunded and stole from the pension for over 20 years. He let his nephew steal all the pension money knowing he had no intention of replacing it. If I am not mistaken didn't Joey the Clown Lombardo go to jail for a while back in the day because he took money from a pension with out any intention on paying it back. So actually the Daley's are not better then a street thug from grand avenue, but I do concur Rham is a pos. So is Daley.

I read the article. Fioretti, waguspak, and Arena voted no. Fioretti was the only one to speak against it on the Council floor. The obligatory "for the children" statements, and $30mil in speed camera revenues are also mentioned.

Then, there is this little doozie, tucked away as the last paragraph of the article....

"“I worked very hard to get to no taxes. We didn’t go through this process to reverse it,” the mayor said then, obviously counting on concessions by police and fire unions to make the new contracts revenue-neutral."

Consessions from us??!! NO FUCKING WAY!! Fund the pension with the $55mil for Maggie park, of the $91mil for bike lanes YOU MIDGET FUCKING THIEF!!

The JJ family's public relations lady was on TV tonight, writing them off -- "Everything that could possibly be done wrong, they have done wrong."

Sun-Times says "Feds looking down every Jackson rathole."

TV tonight had a newspaper reporter on discussing this, major major isn't-going-to-go-away gigantic mess.

Even the usually-voluble Reverend Muffuletta Sr. (as I've always thought of him -- never could understand the man) seems nowhere to be found.

Things that make you go "Hmmm..."

Pensions

Excerpt From Greg Hinz article in Crains

From AFSCME, “The CEO crowd . . . want(s) to protect their special treatment in the tax code at all costs – even if that means picking the pockets of retired teachers, fire fighters, child protection workers and other public servants . . . The pension debt was mostly caused by politicians who skipped required payments even as public employees always paid their share. No mention (by the Civic Committee) that retirees rely on an average pension of just $32,000 a year, with nearly 80 percent not eligible for Social Security.”

A 2013 budget that includes increased out of pocket expenses in our PPO health plan. Co-pays plus deductibles which in all probability will increase annually. But did you know that there are 5 different plans for City employees? Why? Did you know that non-union employees such as Rahm's staff have a less costly PPO plan than police officers? No co-pays for doctor visits for them next year. If health care costs are increasing and require that employees contribute more, why doesn't it apply to ALL employees? Why don't we ALL have the same health plans? Anyone have the answer?

I'll deal with those three malcontents when they least expect it. As to the 46 men and women who were ambitious enough to read the new budget and have the foresight to approve it, thank you. To the victors go the spoils.

And shame on you SCC. Poor Sandi Jackson was off taking care of her seriously ill husband. They are both entitled to collect a check whilst not working. It helps them empathize with the constituents they represent.

Rahm wants to put this whole pension mess squarely on our backs. He has no intention of honoring the city's obligation.
That's Rahm's way if he doesn't like or agree with something he simply chooses to ignore it. What a fucking tool he is!

Let's not forget it was under FOP past president Mark Donahue that the Daley administration was allowed to skate on $23,000,000.00 - 23 MILLION DOLLARS owed to our pension fund.

You should know who Mark Donahue is...he's the same asshole that the apathetic and ignorant rank and file voted for to run our union not one, not two, but THREE terms (that's 9 years for all you goofs that think the FOP board sits for 4 year terms).

So let's not forget to include Marky Mark in the group of POS's you so aptly described.

Most of the cops on this blog voted for Daley every 4 years, deal with the consequences of that choice. For over 20 years that balloon was filling with water. It just burst. Daley is now making the social circles and will laugh to the grave. You want to call Obama "Santa Claus"? Daley, thanks to your unwavering support gave away billions. Throw in Blago and Ryan and it makes you sick. So keep thinking Obama is to blame or the Jacksons. I never voted for Daley, Ryan or Blago. Yet we the taxpayer end up getting fucked in the end. We are not your enemy.

No, the reason that the pensions are in such bad shape is that you accepted promises that could not be kept in exchange for your vote and, when things weren't funded, kept voting the exact same way. Now, having given it up for decades, you are outraged?

This city is a real dive. And this is some first class BS they are trying to pull. DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ONE MINUTE THAT THEY ARE IN SOME BUDGET CRISIS!!! Remember when this prick mayor was first elected how he gave his STAFF RAISES- with one position getting a minimum of 5% and other staff administrators receiving between 7% to 12% INCREASES IN PAY!!!!! If they even dare to suggest we make "concessions" while that shyster emmanuel shells out cash for maggie park, bike lanes, and those dirty gang banger no-snitch fucks ceasefire, every cop and fireman needs to grab a sign and march on city hall and that dirty rat's house! We have already made enough concessions; our manpower has been significantly decreased to the point that no one can even get a day off anymore- that includes denying furlough extensions, units have been disbanded, districts have been consolidated and lockups have been closed down, and districts have to detail cars out to other districts because they are so short on officers. We have to stand together on this and expose this lying SOB. He has the nerve to preach fiscal responsibility and sacrifice while he sat on the board of Freddie Mac when they approved all these toxic loans that corrupted real estate markets and sent our home values into the shitter! We cannot submit ourselves to this crook without a fight!

Every time we are done with our shift and it's time to go home. I will see the bin where we place our traffic tickets, parking tickets, impounds, etc... Then on the far right side I will see the bin that has all of the sheets for cars that were towed or impounded. Usually both of those bins are full to the brim. I just laugh. Keep up the hard work it is appreciated.

I absolutely agree with you. Recently my health took a cruel turn and I have been forced to go on ordinary disability after 20plus years. My monthly medical payment has changed 3 times in a one year period without any warning, notice or explanation. I have spoken to so many people down at Benefits Mgmt and can not get a straight answer. My main question is - where is it documented that shows the amount ANY city employee pays each month for PPO health insurance, whether it be working full time, part time, duty or nonduty disability, etc. I was told there is no such chart, and I asked then do you just make up an amount that you feel like charging me? Something is definitely not right and there is a solid code of silence down at BMO, as always its Chicago political corruption.

To the person who said leave the job if you don't like it. You're part of the problem. They're going to try to stick it to us. That's not what we signed up for. Stop the nonsense about the economy. All the politicians get raises, great pensions, the best health care and other incredible benefits for just sitting on their asses while they keep taking more and more and passing silly laws that affect all of us. When do all of us, not just police officers, tell them enough is enough? It's not about voting anymore. It's beyond that. It's going to take drastic action, far greater than marching to show them we won't take it anymore and it should get ugly for them.
