Cops Stop Grinch

  • An off-duty police officer who was on his way to work Friday sprung into action when he saw two men stealing mail from a postal truck and foiled the thieves plans, police said.

The officer saw two men who weren't wearing uniforms moving mail from a parked U.S. Postal truck parked on the 5900 block of West Fulton Boulevard, police said. Police believe the men broke the window of the mail truck with a large piece of concrete that was found lying on the ground.

He then saw the men load the packages into a black GMC Suburban truck parked nearby, police said. The duo then jumped into the SUV and sped away.

The off-duty officer, 33, followed the pair and phoned 911 to give their descriptions and location, police said.
One of the two was nabbed.  Good job.

Great job, Officer.

I saw this guy interviewed, however, and he stated on TV that he wasn't armed and didn't have his police ID. Speaking for myself- those are two things I never leave home without, and I'm retired.

Since when do checks get mailed out? Direct Deposit or the LINK card gets recharged or they get mailed to the nearest currency exchange. Rarely do they mail checks any more. That is for dinosaurs.

Get with it, this is the 21st Century! Hi Tech.

Good Job Officers!

Strange no comments in the Trib story.

Here is something I have said at many Roll Calls, especially at this time of year.

Look out for anyone who might have a rectangular piece of cardboard covered with glue, double faced tape or a sticky mouse trap with a string attached.

Thieves use these to fish out mail out of U.S. Postal Service "snorkel boxes".

Last summer there was about six to seven breakins to mail trucks and every time it was at the beginning of the month and the only thing stolen was the bin with the blue envelopes which contained government checks. Some people were caught but it was found out that some mail personnel were involved in the scam, that is why it never made the news.

OFFICER SAFETY --

With cold weather coming WATCH OUT for these big furry Uggs boots. Some schools have actually banned these to help their cell phone ban, kids would just drop 'em in there and whisk 'em out.

Quick in, quick out, open tops and slick lining, steak knife or who knows what in there.

CHECK THOSE UGGS!

Stay safe -- up/down/up/down temps and funny weather and every night a bloodbath no matter where the thermometer ends up.

Speaking of stopping the Grinch...

DING! DONG! THE WITCH IS GONE!

Captain C.W. in 010 who said nooo to district First Watch requests for fill-in manpower for Christmas parties has departed.

Anyone interested might call 010 and ask again. Seems the D.C. owes the First Watch.
