Upgrading Charges

ASA facing upgraded charges for drunken antics:
  • The Cook County prosecutor charged with biting a worker outside a Lakeview lingerie store is about to be in even more trouble.

Her misdemeanor battery case was dropped today, but FOX 32 News has learned the Attorney General plans to file new, more serious charges against Sarah Naughton in the next several days. Naughton's misdemeanor battery trial was scheduled for today, but was dropped after a last minute move by the Attorney General's office, which is handling the case since Naughton works for the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
And wonder or wonders, a Chicago aldercreature is sticking his nose into this one, trying to help out the unfortunate drunken prosecutor:
  • The story gets even more bizarre, with a voicemail Thomas got from Ald. Tom Tunney (44th Ward) just days after Naughton's first appearance in court.

After making some small talk about a local construction project impacting Thomas's store, Tunney says this:

"The world is too small and I've got a friend of mine that I went to high school with is an attorney for that Taboo Tabou case with the state's attorney. It's really a delicate situation for the young woman, and I understand that you've been at court with Fox News or something like that." Tunney said on the voicemail "My only suggestion is, let's try to help the person. She obviously had a bad night. We don't need to continue her (to hurt her) dignity about this issue. So, let the court do what the court's supposed to do, and please, we don't need to have the theatrics around this issue. It doesn't help your business."
The store owner had Tunney on tape.  Amazing what passes for intelligence around these parts some days.

I like how they refer to Taboo Tabou as a "Lingerie Store." That place is a porn shop! Complete with sex toys and XXX movies.

Tunney needs to be locked up for intimidation.

I'm certain that I wouldn't be eating, sleeping or shitting right if I were the owner of Taboo Tabou. I'd be worried about the negative publicity, loss of reputation in the community and loss of income. I wouldn't be able to concentrate on life's daily tasks and the host of other ailments and maladies brought on courtesy of Aldercreature Tunney's forever-digitally-documented threat would essentially ruin my livelihood.

"...and please, we don't need to have the theatrics around this issue", said Tunney.

Too late, Tom. Too late. I hope this gets buried balls-deep in your ass.

Will the city council look into ethics violations? This was tampering and a backhanded threat to the victim's livelyhood. There needs to be a bigger story on this one. We are all forced to take "ethics training" and this is using one's position to influence or scare someone into playing politics and create a disired outcome. This is completely wrong and the media needs to do a bigger story. Tunny is a scumbag chicago politician.

Guess the AG recently got religion. No sleazy fix like she pulled for the former Rock Island State's attorney who was messing around with a teenage sexual assault victim. A high school teacher went to prison first, then the RISA started partying with her. ISP Rockford had their criminal investigation halted so the RISA could plead guilty to delivering alcohol to a minor and is fighting disbarment on the grounds that he only committed a misdemeanor. Lots of downstate media coverage, with juicy details but nothing in Chicago. Call it democratic courtesy. Any ISP investigator got more?

Where are all the other ambulance chasers? Isn't this the same fact pattern as abbate. Someone using their office to "ask" someone to forget about it? Taboo taboo should call the ardc. Attorney registration and discipline committee to complain about both lawyers. Isn't this felonious battery bc it is on the public way or in a business establishment? Or is that line only used by states attorneys trying to further their career. Hmm the tape should be used for a lawsuit

Let the court do what the court's supposed to do. He means that in Cook County, the most corrupt in the nation, the fix is always in at court. Same as it always has been, and always will be. That's why I laugh when people get upset about what happens in court. It's like being upset that the sun rises in the east. If you expect justice out of a Cook County court, you are indeed a fool.

What she did is as bad as what Abbate did, maybe worse. She BIT someone---and as we all know, those can cause some nasty infections. Just because she's female and her fighting wasn't on tape, you still have the horrifyingly disgusting video of her babbling and screaming sitting on the curb. Her career is toast.

Not to defend Tunney here...but it sounds to me from the face of the taped message that he's simply asking the owner of Taboo Tabou to dial down the drama and allow the case to work its way through the courts.
I don't think it was a good idea for Tunney to have
left a message like this on the guy's voice mail, as it can be interpreted many ways (like the BS interpretations that are playing out on SCC right now).
As it stands now, it's only a misdemeanor case...no one's going to get any time in jail for it, even if a plea is involved.
And Taboo Tabou isn't really a lingerie store, it would best be described as a sexual accessories store.

    Heh...

Pursue this with the maximum prejudice and hatred that we know is reserved strictly for Chicago Police Officers if one were to do the exact same thing.

Where are the politicians and media talking heads and why aren't they preening and smug lip-smacking about how outrageous and intolerable the young soon to be former A.S.A's conduct was?

Where are the protests and screams of more discipline and accountability for those "out of control" assistant state's attorneys?

Punish her. Destroy her life and career without mercy just like she were a Chicago Police Officer...

Do it just to "prove" that everything is on the up and up and there isn't a big, fat-ass double standard at CCSAO & Circuit Court...

Why aren't TV camera crews camped out in front of her house shooting video that clearly shows her address?

Please destroy her the same way Policemen have been destroyed.

...Double dog dare ya to NOT do it!

She IS held to a higher standard.
    Is she not?

Jail time and ruinous civil litigation will teach her...

Isn't that what this is all about?

    Higher Standards.
The Tax-Payers high expectations of their sworn officers of the court.

    *Crickets*

Or does the above scenario makes people squirm because it isn't one of those "out of control Chicago Cops" being hurt?

    Heh...

Keepin' it mean, grim & grimy just how Chicago likes it...

    THAT is a Patrolman's reality...

True 'Test" is if she gets fired from the States Attorney Office. Anita is not having a good past few weeks. "60 minutes interview". If you have enough "juice" she will stay in the Office, if not she would have been asked to resign by now. Lets see if she gets found guilty of anything. Not likely in Cook County. Case was set for trial on December 27th. You do the math.

There are a lot of bad feelings here and for the next couple of years the SA office is going to get its revenge. They figure they'll get at least 15 cops into IDOC in the next four years.

On a side note, more than a few judges don't like how the blog has hooked up with Fox News.

    Bad, bad things are coming.

    Hope you print this.

There is a lot you guys don’t know about this case. Sara Naughton is daughter of Gino Naughton. She grew up in the 19th ward when her father was a minion for Tom Hynes who got him his job at 26th street as an Assistant State Atty. in the 1980’s Then Gino had a falling out with Tom Hynes. He then became an Attorney in Vrydolak’s office on Commercial Ave in the late 1980’s.

What is most likely happening now is her father Gino and her defense attorney are most likely shopping the case before every judge at 26th street for a bench trial. Too bad Judge Henry Simons is retired since he is Vrydolak’s nephew. Just give them time, she’ll walk.

I do not know. I feel sorry for her. She was drunk as hell and acted the fool of course. But now her name is smeared and she will suffer consequences from that alone.

Really ? You must never heard of innocent people who are arrested, spend their money on defense attorneys, have their lives ruined and some even go to prison. But, in your perfect world that never happens. Cops never lie, prosecutors never hold back evidence and judges never hold a bias/ Yea, right.

Dont know about the prison, but I do know about the state as I served in the army, Ft. Polk, down there. Inbreeds is being kind to the citizens of that state who are still fighting the civil war. I wont even drive through that state.

Loop the worst of the video and run it over and over and over until people are changing channels, and then keep going many months beyond that point.

They are probably still running the 1 1/2 seconds of Gerald Ford stumbling on the steps to Air Force One. I haven't checked.

"Considering Tunney hired BILL COZZI when he got out of Federal prision, it shouldn't come as a shock that he tries to help out people who made poor choices that are uncharacteristic of them. A cop made the intro, Bill told his side of the story and Tunney hired him on the spot. Been working for Tunney for almost a year."

    12/28/2012 02:05:00 AM

All of this repeated here makes me extremely uncomfortable for Bill Cozzi's sake, and has for a while. It predates this Naughton thing, and it does not seem fair to him.

That is because I know the feeling EXACTLY -- I have more than once in my life turned down a position because I knew that I would have been made into someone's mascot, paraded out as an example of someone's "good works."

"Humiliating" is one word that came to mind, at least where I was standing.

A big guy, no matter what his size, can help someone quietly and be OK, be happy in his heart that he did the right thing. His friend that he helped will know it too and will always be grateful for it.

Sorry if I am off target. If Bill discusses his business more publicly, among his circles, then that is his decision alone.

Just intended as gentle reminder, if not necessarily in this matter, then in others.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Heres a fact about States Attornies!

Sooner or later they become private defense attorneys and will use all CPD procedures and knowledge of police work against a copper in a heart beat to get their clients off and get paid big bucks!

Take it to the bank! ASA's are NOT the Police friend despite the smiles!

Got stuck working Gay Parade a few years ago. In Wrigley staging area/lot Tunney was shaking coppers hands and telling him he appreciates our hard work in a dangerous profession. Brought over coffee and breakfast stuff from Ann Sathers for us. Very much a pro police alderman which is a rare breed these days. After confirming he hired Cozzi too, the guy gets a big pass from me.
