Move to Texas

The envy of just about every state governor. We wish we had these problems:
  • Gov. Rick Perry will use his State of the State address to call for amending the Texas Constitution to allow the state to return tax money it collects but doesn't spend back to its citizens, according to an excerpt of the speech released to The Associated Press.

Perry, who is scheduled to deliver the speech Tuesday morning to a joint session of the Legislature, will tell lawmakers that he has "never bought into the notion that if you collect more, you need to spend more."

"Today, I'm calling for a mechanism to be put in place so when we do bring in more than we need, we'll have the option of returning tax money directly to the people who paid it," the governor plans to say. "Currently, that's not something our constitution allows. We need to fix that."

The Republican has for weeks called on the Legislature to cut taxes and continue to hold down government spending -- even though Texas' economy is booming. He'll also use the speech to give a specific dollar amount he'd like to see in tax reductions.
Texas is looking to cut a check to taxpayers instead of funding new and unsustainable spending.

By the way, did everyone get part one of their tax bills this week?

It's the only state with any balls, followed by Arizona. But I , like many other officers and ciy workers are stuck in this rotting shithole out of need. Our politicians are the biggest crooks in the nation, all democrats bleeding heart liberals and just plain uninformed sheeple.Once the greatest city in the country, I really believe that but now it's overrun by ass kissing people and politicians who only care for themselves. It makes me want to puke.

You don't have to go all the way to Texas to find fiscal governmental responsibility. Across the Mississippi River, Iowa has a $800,000,000 surplus. They are considering $750.00 rebates to taxpayers. Again, Republican legislature, Republican governor.

Before I got on the job I lived, for 5 years, in a DuPage county suburb. I had to pay 15.00 for a city sticker the first year. The second year I received a notice stating that the town ran a surplus and I would not be required to get a sticker untill further notice. I was never again notified.
We live in a rookery.

I really loved living in Chicago, and was proud of it for the first 36 years of my life.

Then at 37, I was offered the choice. Take a city job, or finally give in to the wife and move out of the city.

This was just before the housing bubble burst, and as much as I wanted to remain in the city, RE was overinflated, and my desire to live in the grew less and less, as Daley screwed the city as much as he could.

Long story short, while it took a few years to get used to living in far Northern Lake county, I have zero desire to move back to Chicago, and only wished that I moved further away. Fuck Rahm, fuck these politicians, and Rev'runds, and all the other bs.

Wow I'm jealous! It's sad that this thinking is considered "new." This is the way things should be, but in Illinois they raise income tax and then spend more, just like Obama and his crew. Wish I could live in Texas.

Rahm is well on the way to fiscal responsibility. He's busting the teachers union. He's going to bust the police union. So maybe you will see a reduction in your tax bill. Along with an increase in what you pay for insurance, an end to all those extra checks (shift differential, uniform allowance) and no pay increase.

Washington Times ^ | 1/30/2013 | William Kelly

CHICAGO, Illinois, January 25, 2013 - A new Cold War is brewing here in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood and it has nothing to do with the frigid temperature. The apartment building at 832 E. 57th Street was once the Chicago home of a boy who would become a President. No, it’s not Barack Obama of Hawaii. It was at the apartment’s first floor window that a young Ronald Reagan looked out upon the world. But some powerful Chicagoans are planning to demolish Reagan’s historic home. Is it politically motivated? Is Mayor Rahm Emanuel behind the move? Reagan as a child....

I'm a hard right tax hating conservative. But this is just dumb.

How about doing something constructive with said revenues, like paying down existing state debts? Cut the debt so that in the next downturn there's less debt service to pay?

Dumb political grandstanding. Perry is a hack.

There is no state income tax there either... Texas' economy didn't suffer much 2008- present..... There are jobs there, and some GREAT living.... Illinois citizens really do need to take a stand. Nothing's going to change... But I bet it the state went bankrupt and no one gets a pension, bet you'll wake up then - and then it's too late....

Wow- what a concept! Too bad we'll never see that happen here. The filthy corrupt politicians here believe in nothing but raising taxes on the working people of this state. They wouldn't even know what a surplus meant- they'd have to google it. They are too busy spending money that they don't even have to ever fiscally responsible. Our taxes keep going up, meanwhile services to the TAXPAYER go down. I have yet to hear about any cuts in welfare, link cards, free school meals program or housing assistance. It's no wonder this state is broke. I've been scouting property down in the Lone Star State for a while now and will be making a purchase within the next year. That's where we are planning to retire. Nice to hear another reason for making the decision to go there.

You don't have to go that far. Indiana is also in a surplus and is refunding tax money to all residents who paid taxes. They may also lower the tax rate next year. All that and they don't care how many guns you have or what kind they are and retired LEOs get a lifetime concealed carry card.

For assessment year 2011, county officially reduced my house-valuation by 10%, but my bill in the mail was only 8% lower than last year.

Interesting...they admit 10% reduction in house-valuation, but then give me only 8% break when the bill comes in the mail...

Only in Crook-County!

Why is it I see people wearing the work uniforms in line at the grocery stores paying with LINK cards?

Something really stinks about that and should be investigated!

No working person, especially ones wearing uniforms indicating a good job at some company, should ever be using a LINK card!

Time to cut the fat around the LINK cards and other forms of welfare!

We are. We retired from the city and relocated to the Illinois suburbs.
This was not far enough.

We are cutting our losses and moving our business to a warmer climate, a tax-friendly, and
most importantly, a State that
supports the 2nd Amendment.

Hello Texas.

Perry is looking to make a political splash like Minnesota's governor Jesse Ventura. He caught a lucky excess in tax revenues, and instead of paying off old debt and accumulated deferred maintenance, he refunded the "surplus". At the end of his term, the deferred maintenance was still deferred, the deficit was bigger than when he came into office, and the state's finances wore worse than when he was elected. However, conservatives liked him because he cut taxes (causing massive problems for a decade) and sent "surplus" tax revenues back to taxpayers, causing massive problems with the public infrastructure of the state.

Ventura was a HUGE failure. Perry is an even bigger failure. The United States lucked out big time when Perry didn't get elected President.

Do not forget who is bringing you all the misery/pain you are experiencing in this country....it is the Socialist-Democratic Party of the USA. The old Democratic Party is dead..highjacked by the the sociaists, who gained their biggest foothold with the advent of oboza, who was groomed by the socialists for the position of dictator of the USA.

Socilialist-Democratic Party of America. The Democratic Party isn't advertising themselves as a socialist organization, but oboma has identified himself as such in his recent State of the Union speach, and if you compare his policies to that of the definition of socialism, you will see a direct correlation between the two. Check out the website of the Communist Party of the USA....www.cpusa.org. Read their statement and compare it to oboma's policies...if you didn't already know you were viewing the communist party website, you would think it was the White House.gov. website. Call these aholes what they are: Socialist-Democratic Party members and n-o-t democratic party members...that party is dead...control the language from the left and call them what they are. And damn you if you vote for another democrat/oops!/Socialist-Democrat party member.

don't get me started on this... Perry had a flub or two during the campaign but his ideas and record spoke for itself, not to mention his background. Dirt poor, hard as nails upbringing as an actual farmer, the only real candidate with military service (no offense Paul-heads), leading the state in the nation that was accounting for half of all the jobs created in the U.S. Then he and his state university system, at his behest, come up with the nation's first 4 year degree for under 10 grand. This should have been our president.
