It's Monday!!!

And you know what that means? A New Strategy was Announced!
  • It’s an old idea: The cop walking the beat.

But that classic policing strategy is the latest tactic Chicago Police are adding in their ongoing battle against the city’s spiraling violence.

Supt. Garry McCarthy is confident it will be an important part of the department’s new “strategic saturation” crime-fighting approach. And he showed reporters a photo of some gang graffiti officers found that suggests the gangs agree.

“F--- the foot police,” it read.

“Apparently they’re having some sort of impact on gang members there,” McCarthy told reporters.
Or they just had a spare can of paint and wanted to let everyone know they could spell "police."

The article touts the low homicide totals for February and March without once mentioning the lack of 70 and 80 degree days that permeated the late winter/early spring of 2012.  And while we're sure Rahm, Garry, the aldercreatures and brass are more than happy to claim the credit for lower numbers of killings, they better step up and accept the blame if it goes south in June and July.

The real reason the strategy of the week is foot patrol is because we don't have enough cars to give them. Area garages have no pools. District and unit cars are constantly being downed for repairs and no pools are available.

Rahm told Ford he would pay them "later" for the rest of the new cars we were supposed to be getting, but Ford told him to go pound sand. No money, no more new cars.

Voilà! Foot patrol becomes the new crime fighting strategy.

Survey: Chicago has highest gas prices in US

ABC7Chicago.com-7 hours ago
March 25, 2013 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Will gas prices soar as we head into the busy driving season? One survey says Chicago has the highest ...

-----------------------------------

It's not even summer driving season yet. Prem is $4.75/gal and reg $4.25 here.

Wonder how those Chicago gasoline tax revenue bonds are looking as people park it.

Have they issued inflatible cop dolls to go in the squad cars with us? That will stretch available manpower to increase the appearance of omnipresence as envsioned by O. W. Wilson in the 1950's and implemented here in 1961. That ought to fool 'em all right. And keep 'em driving around the same block so they think we are everywhere. The beast won't ever catch on to that one.

And raw recruits on foot patrol in Englewood? That's good. Putting their safety at risk with no field training at all. I wonder how many will simply resign over that one. Sounds sort of like the Hitler Youth in the waning days of WWII. Young kids in uniform on the front lines.

So we are lead to believe that in high crime areas your going to put a person out there? I thought there was a safety issue with this that was discussed already. Will they have a car? If not, back up then? In short, would you really want to be out and about in a area like iowa and karlov at night by yourself? I think i would say Mc525 you first.

It's certainly not for a lack of trying. In the last 30 days or so there have been 89 people shot where only 13 died. That's only 15% and a pretty awful shot to kill ratio. If these shooters were just slightly better shots, the murder rate would be much much higher.

I cannot think of a more asinine use of resources. NYC has not only Nanny Bloomberg but 34,000 cops. That is two WWII sized Divisions. With that many people you can do foot and vehicle patrol. Chicago is at least 2000 people short and at full strength only about 12000.

Is there training to walk down the street safely, where all your enemies can see you, but you can't see them...while crossing numerous doorways, gangways, alleys, and windows...and parked cars. Foot patrols in residential neighborhoods create sitting duck targets. I can sit in my house with all my guns and smoke a blunt while talking back and forth with my friends in surrounding houses and driving or on foot in the street while we watch everything you do and where you go. Strategically, the rookie has no upperhand. Plus every cop can tell you, they can smell the rookies. There is no real training for that. Watch the video below where two strangers had to jump in and help a cop fighting with a suspect...as people in the crowd cheer the suspect on and try to stop the stangers from helping the cop who was not faring very well in the fight.

Now a rule has to be made and strictly enforced: no one takes their personal car to their post. And, you know why.Studies have been done to show that foot patrol is no more dangerous then patrol in a car. Stop with the scary stories that have not materialized anywhere else. You sound like the gun grabbers with their BS stories of all the bad things that will happen.

3/26/2013 01:13:00 PM

What fkg studies? Conducted by whom? You prove to us that more police were murdered by the bad guy while inside their vehicles as opposed to being murdered by the bad guy while on foot?

Whoever the fk you are that wrote that post should be - wait a minute - is that you Garry you prick?

This is a horrible idea. This isn't new York stop pretending and wake up. Stupid B.S. like this is gonna get one of those new guys hurt. Plus it's a breach of contract having them walk around with only p.p.os. This jagoff isn't gonna realize how bad an idea this is until it's too late and something bad happens.

Officers James Severin and Anthony Rizzato died near Chicago and Larabee on July 17, 1970 in the Cabrini-Green housing project. They were on patrol as part of the police department’s “Walk & Talk” program they volunteered for, when shots rang out from a nearby high rise, and they were both killed.

I dont get your logic. That happened 43 years ago. How many officers died working a beat car since then?

3/26/2013 08:32:00 PM

Ask Northside. Perhaps he will check in with a worthwhile opinion. He has personally responded to enough police officer's shot to know what is dangerous and what is bullshit. Or Sgt. Al P. But I doubt Al wastes any time reading a blog.

SHEEEEIT!

*Jackpot Bitch! Gimme yo money!* >POP-POP!<

If a #44 whizzes by fast enough... Can anybody say they actually SAW it?

Been a while... Is that funky-assed muthafuckah still runnin'?

Here's the thing... Garry and Rahm are desperate and ass-out for this newest piece of shit... Errr, *NEW STRATEGY!* they're flinging against the wall in Englewood to somehow actually stick...

No matter how many Policeman they're trying to get hurt.

They're pissed that Policemen are big on self preservation and mitigation of career and financial harm nowadays.

Can't divorce themselves from actually believing Policemen are not only stupid, but wholly expendable.

"So... You guys aren't gonna help us by taking one for the team? Fuck you coppers! We'll INTENTIONALLY endanger YOU to put a positive spin on this fiasco of our making!"

Heh... Once upon a time, we had PLENTY of help in the field.

Nowadays? Not so much... By design...

Any copper(s) who gets down like Patrolmen USED TO in bad "oh fuck we're surrounded" situations will be made examples of.

It's a fucking crying shame Rahm and McCarthy are using these officers for cannon fodder.

It's another sign of the "we're smarter than you Blue Suits" mindset that is ruining the fuck out of this city and department.

Heh... The Chicago Magazine article just pulled back the covers and revealed one grinning skeleton staring at everybody and no one at all...

Try ignore all the rest of them grinnin' muthafuckahs percolating up through the ground in Chicago's back yard.

It's GOOD that people are starting to ask Rahm (and McLostHisMind) hard and pointy questions...

He's gonna get caught one good day without any "family vacation" to run off to...

His Vileness HATES hard and pointy questions... No wiggle room or semantic shit-assery so he tries to slide with a finely minced non-answer of a word salad with a bullshit vinagrette...

The Police are the enemy...

Viva Hate.

The outcry from the media and the reverends has always been that more minority cops are needed to relate to minorities. Now is the time to assign all minority cops to walking beats in all minority neighborhoods to better relate to the residents.

New order coming out that det's will now have to walk to interviews and to show photo arrays, as well as look for offenders. These det's will be equipped with special hats with blinking blue lights on top, and will be given whistles that sound like sirens when blown.

Order coming out Friday, watch for it.

Why are people so bothered by P/Os on Foot. They have a Gun,Badge, Vest and a uniform that says Chicago Police. That is what they trained for isn't it.

3/26/2013 12:26:00 PM

The keepers at the zoo have the shirts with the logos, the shorts and those cool hats...but they still feed the lions from outside the cages.

Old Retired Guy Here.I have to stick in my "two cents worth" on this topic. During the last six years of my CPD career, I was assigned to a foot post. It was "Great", best assignment, I ever had. At the time, I had over 25yrs experience. I was walking a post in a low crime area. Putting a inexperienced PO, on a Foot Post in a high crime area, is a "Suicide Mission". He or She will not have the street experience to properly protect themselves, nor the citizens.

Feel safe with new officers on foot patrol . One man cars patrolling our streets and alleys.
rahm still has 3 people assigned to changing street and alley lights, remember how shocked he was when he first found out , he should be an actor .
50 aldermen is 30 to many , let's save tax payers of Chicago some money , use it to hire some police officers .

The Soviets pointed their guns at conscripts and sent them out against the Wehrmacht unarmed...

Not QUITE the same but enough similarity to give the people who care about Policemen a bad case of the yips.

We hate the notion of Policemen getting hurt for the stupid-assed politicasl grand-standing of the desperate.

This shit in Englewood is an unequal fight against high-performance, hardheaded m/fers who abide by no rules and openly tout having no fear of GOD, Man, law or even death...

When McDesperateAndCrazy announced this shit, we winced involuntarily.

"Where are our weapons, Comrade?"

"Lying on the ground in the hands of the dead who went before you... Comrade..."

The answer wasn't blowin' in the wind... You Police-y type people make too much damned sense and it's getting on Rahm & McCarthy's nerves.

Exhibit A:

"The keepers at the zoo have the shirts with the logos, the shorts and those cool hats...but they still feed the lions from outside the cages."

3/27/2013 09:54:00 AM

Exhibit B:

95% for the A-... Substitute jackals, hyenas and wild dogs for 10% extra and the A+

Continue policing like you have no friends... It's making 111 North and 3510 South crazier by the day that very carefully measured, bland and flavorless Policing is the rule of the day now.

One of these new kids is going to get seriously hurt or killed. I'm afraid for them. Those are the last people you should put on foot posts. They should take people with at least 5 years on--let the kids learn the ropes first. Like feeding lambs to lions.

Bullshit 5 years on and half these kids will be working inside or have a spot
My partner and I each had a little over 2 years on and we were working a car in the ghetto. These kids wanted to be the police, after the academy 12 weeks with a FTO, then the walking police. They wanted to be the police, let them be the police

Yes a CAR in the ghetto, its time to stop patting yourself on the back now!

"It's certainly not for a lack of trying. In the last 30 days or so there have been 89 people shot where only 13 died. That's only 15% and a pretty awful shot to kill ratio. If these shooters were just slightly better shots, the murder rate would be much much higher."

You have to give credit for the low death percentage to the CFD Ambulance crews and the hospital ER Trauma units.

With all the practice they get, they get to be good. Makes Chalkie's task tougher, tho.
