Taste of Chicago Hearing?

We suppose it's par for the course - CAPS has been burning through money for years, why not pour more money down the rat hole that is the Taste of Chicago:
  • A group of aldermen today called for hearings on whether Taste of Chicago should be restructured or even eliminated in the face of years of financial losses.

Ald. Robert Fioretti, a sponsor of the non-binding resolution, suggested Taste may have run its course.

"Two years ago, I said 'Taste of Chicago is on its last legs.' It's time to look at reconfiguring it," said Fioretti, 2nd. "Either we're going to eliminate it -- then, we should have -- or we're going to move it forward."

Taste 2012 lost $1.3 million, more than the previous year, despite Mayor Rahm Emanuel's moves to raise revenue by charging for some concert tickets and gourmet meals, as well as shortening the annual lakefront festival from 10 days to five days.

Speaking to reporters after Wednesday's City Council meeting, Emanuel said he's committed to keep working to modernize Taste.
It's a giant untraceable cash generator.  We don't believe for a minute, with all the creative bookkeeping that goes on around here, that someone connected isn't walking off with some sort of payoff.  It might not be the restaurants, it might not be the guys with all the service contracts for cold-storage or running the port-o-lets, but they wouldn't be there if they weren't making some coin somewhere.

It's Chicago....someone has their hands in the till.

Tastes like shit! Fuck the money we spend on that bullshit. Perhaps those convicted criminals at Ceasefire can use another million?
And fuck Rahm and McWhiskey too.
A midget millionaire and a drunken douche.

When will Swan Lake wake up and realize that more and more Chicago folks are going to Milwaukee's TENS TIME BETTER Summerfest and cancel this sorry excuse for a summer outing here.

Lets ask ourself this; with all the summer festivals we have in Grant park each year why in the hell don't we have permanent fair grounds. A fortune is spent on setting up and taking down the infrastucture for each festival, art fair, marathon and music venue. With permanent fair grounds it would not only be available for city sponsored events but could also be rented out for corporate and private events spring thru fall. And the perfect place for the fair grounds . . . Northerly Island (the old Meigs Field). As it currently stands virtually NO ONE uses the place. It is acres upon acres of wasted space in a beatiful location. There is plenty of parking around it with its Soldier Field neighbor and being surrounded on three sides with water makes it a security dream. Just think of having real washrooms to use, permanent structures for vendors, walkways that aren't trampled grass and oneway in and out so that every shithead and pissbum in the world isn't up your ass. Money from corprate sponsorship and events along with renting it to private parties would probably cover most of the initial costs in the first couple years.

Just sayin.

Taste of Chicago is now the Taste of Thugland. Free tickets for the fangs and thungs or else they complain that black people are being kept out.

Cancel the thing. Shitcan it right now. Either turn it over to the SummerFest organizers and let them run it right or give it to the people who run Lallapalozza.

Better have nothing than what they have now. This current incarnation of the Taste is a waste of time and money. And it isn't their money, you know what I mean?

By the way, if you haven't been driving on Lake Shore Drive between Randolph and Monroe you might take a trip and look west at all the nice new signs recently erected on the fencing proclaiming "Comming Soon, Maggie Daley Park."

See where your $55 million bucks are being pissed away.

Speaking of pissed away, you might stop there if you have to take a leak. Perfect place to leave a pint of urine. Here's looking at you Richy.

If they charge a fee, they will get normal people to attend and the riff-raff will have to do their bad shit elsewhere.

The vendors will still get theirs.

how much of the 1.3 million was forked over to that thief daley's firm for lost parking revenue?

another way to look at it is the city is paying rent for its own city streets.

I refuse to go! My familys safety is more important than a couple plates of food. The savages have taken over the taste and the surrounding area. If you survive your visit at the taste, doesnt mean you'll survive your walk to your car or your train ride home. No Thanks, you can keep your Taste.

We're a dictatorship now.

Rahm and his 50 puppets are going to piss millions of dollars away on taste of chicago to enrich Hollywood and clouted friends whether the taxpayers like it or not.

This hearing on Taste is a dog and pony show.

Rahm is going to charge-it on the taxpayers credit card and say: here, f**king pay YOUR bill to the taxpayers. Then whine that we can't afford to make HIS pension payments to the public workers.

This is what we are working for and paying taxes!

It's like RAHM: "I don't give a f**K if Taste of Chicago lost $1.3 mil. last year LET'S DO IT AGAIN!"

We see it with Maggie Park. We see it with six-figure per mile bike paths. Now we see it with this stupid money losing festival.

Using the crisis they create as a road map, a tool, to transfer the wealth of the working people, the money losers, to their hand picked winners. It has nothing to do with education or talent or hard work to get the money. It's who you know.

Taxes are supposed to be spent on things that benefit the general public and guess what? THIS CRAP he's spending money on ain't it.

We have a man here trying to put forth an image that we belong to some group of World-Class cities, trying to keep up with the jones's and we're broke. We're doing it on credit and it places us in a life of indentured servitude.

So when's the next new tax, fee, license increase to pay for this crap coming? Oh, oh-oh-oh, the budget is in the red we need to do it because it's necessary they'll tell us. But they hope that we have short memories and will not ask why the budget is in the shape it's in.

Is it any wonder that the USA's population grew 9.7% from 2000 to 2010 and Illinois grew at a miserable 3.3% WITH OVER A 9% LOSS of jobs over that same period!?

Cook county and Chicago actually lost people over that 2000-2010 period.

Why does it matter? Because the working portion of the population in Chicago and in Cook County is GOING DOWN that's why.

In spite of the jobs hype creating and saving bullshit there are no more jobs here then there was in the late '90's over 13 years ago or more not to mention the quality of those jobs and the falling wages.

But fuck all that right?

The state dictators demand a 66% personal income tax increase and wheel out THE CHILDREN bullshit THE PENSIONS bullshit and when they get the money where's it go? Where?

More recently. at a press conference for the Sgts contract vote Rahm whips out his program for "at-risk" children like he's some sort of savior. However if you remember Rahm had the CPS department make massive cuts to programs for "at-risk" children and violence reduction. He created the crisis or made it worse and now its time to back peddle and play hero with a new initiative.

They raised taxes on parking downtown, called it a congestion tax and now that has to be redone. They cut 911 service and said we're not going to respond to minor police calls for service. A few days later CPD is now suppose to concentrate on the minor calls that they no longer respond to.

Now everyone get back to work so you can pay Rahm's bills as he transfers OuR money to the clouted ones

There's no hope for this city.

The Reason the taste does not make money is due to the thuggery over the years. The word has spread and the good people that spend money don't go any more. Thugs don't go to summer fest in Milwaukee and it makes money. Simple.

Turn it back into Chicagofest, but not at Navy Pier. Pay to get in, have the real police, situate it in an area where access to and from the venue can be controlled (as much as I hate to say it, Northerly Island would work). Screw Tutu and McTurdInThePunchbowl, the revruns, and the rest of them - do it right or hand it over to the Milwaukee Summerfest people.

You may of not been to the Milwaukee Fest in awhile. I had to walk though plenty of thugs with my wife and child. The asshol*s were everywhere almost knocking over my stroller as they ran into it (numerous times from different ones)doing their thang, as I headed to the exit. I told my wife we wouldnt be back there again, unless we planned on leaving before 2 PM. They ruin everything. The mayors ass kicking in the parking lot a few years ago made the news... remember? Wisconsin isnt a safe haven either....
