Rahm Says "Nyah Nyah Nyah."

  • Saying "being honest is never a failure," Mayor Rahm Emanuel stood by the pension deal rejected by Chicago police sergeants and said inevitable reforms passed in Springfield will share many of the same earmarks.
Not to put to fine a point on it, but what does Rahm know about being honest? He made his millions in crooked deals and shady contracts for what was essentially a no-show job.
  • Emanuel called the deal's opponents those who "have decided denial is a long-term strategy. That doesn't work."

He promised to "bring honesty to a system that doesn't have it today."

The rejected deal would have raised the retirement age, frozen cost-of-living increases every other year and called on retirees to pay more of their health insurance.

Emanuel said "every aspect of this agreement" will inevitably be part of pension reform in the General Assembly.

"Hoping otherwise is not a strategy," he added.
It may be part of some "agreement" at a later date, but not during contract negotiations. Pension matters are State Law, not collective bargaining. We're all pretty sure Rahm isn't planning on being around in two years.

And the majority of sergeants realized that while change may be on the horizon, they don't have to provide 9.5 with the rope and tree from which he'll try to hang them.

How about a nice honest post on the FOP fucking up our contract negotiations? Since Mikey has been yelling at the top of his baby lungs for the last year that the letter never needed to be submitted how come he had the FOP submit the letter this year during the correct time frame? Why not submit it using the same time frame as you did last year if you did nothing wrong?

Everyone needs to realize that the FOP will be negotiating our new contract that will have an effective date of 1 JULY 2013 not 2012. You have just worked the last year with no chance of retro.

Now even if they FOP says they filed it correctly, which they did not and the City is negotiating that way, they are going to cost US a boat load of money filling lawsuits against the City fighting this specific topic.

People need to realize the failed experiment that Sheilds is and move on during the next elections. No matter what the outcome of the contract, the amount it is costing the FOP and the distractions his administration has had on the membership is horrible.

I do not give a flying fuck about his security side business, or his brothers security side business, or his dads, etc. The simple fact is those distractions are fucking up all of our livelihoods by the connections the media is making them to be. Whether that is right or wrong does not matter, its the perception of them and the effect it is having on the membership.

Once again the politicians that caused the pension problem in the first place are now trying to blame police offices that had nothing to do with the problem. Police officers put into the pension every two weeks and that's the last they see of their money. Police officers have NO SAY what so ever or anything to do with what happens to the pension. People need to know the truth about what the politicians did to the pension.

With the reputation chicago, Illinois politicians have it should be an easy one to understand when it comes to the truth about what happened to the pension. Lying corrupt politicians think they can fool everyone.

The word 'honest' isn't in Rahm's dictionary. His whole career has been back room deals and underhanded tactics. Exactly how did he make his millions? Somebody find the Chicago Tonight episode where he is asked that question during the mayoral election and please post it. Nothing but evasion and double talk. Our pension fund has been around since the late 1800's, but Rahm wishes he could click his tiny heels three time and make it disappear, forgetting his Uncle Les is a retired policeman. I have never been more proud to be a Chicago Cop, than when I saw the results of the Sergeant's contract vote. As a retired Sergeant, I was embarrassed that over 100 sergeants voted for that terrible contract, putting their own selfish interests over the good of the whole, but we have always been our own worst enemies. I implore all current and retired sergeants......please join the FOP today. It is clear that the sergeant's union does not have our interests at heart. Please believe me when I tell you that retired sergeants knew nothing of Ade and company's dirty dealings with Rahm. The first I knew of their plans was when I received a letter shortly before the annual retirement dinner asking us to behave and not make a fuss at the dinner regarding the proposed contract. Remember that retired guys could not vote on the contract, but we were going to be harmed by the provisions of it. Fair, huh? Until the current board can be replaced, (they should do the right thing and resign) we can all be united at the FOP. The lieutenants and captains should join us too at the FOP. Then, as a unified group, we need to begin picketing City Hall, and march up to the 5th floor. Hiring a good pr firm would help us to get our message out. Rahm doesn't care about us, that is clear. He has promised to ram 'reform' down our throats regardless of the fairness of the outcome. How he calls himself a 'democrat', when he is so clearly anti-union, is beyond me. I hope the National Democratic Party is closely watching what is going on here, and never slates him for any national office, forcing him to become the republican he, and all his fat-cat friends actually are. We are under attack. Get off your ass and get energized. This is going to be a long, hard battle.

CHICAGO, March 11 | Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:27pm EDT

(Reuters) - Illinois, which postponed a $500 million bond sale in January, is planning to announce a new bonds sale as soon as this week, a state official said on Monday.

The preliminary official statement for the deal will be published this week for a sale at the beginning of April, said a state official who asked not to be identified.

At the end of February John Sinsheimer, the state's capital markets director, had said Illinois was planning to go ahead as soon as late March, after the presentation of the new budget, with a competitive sale of the general obligation bonds

------------------------------

Well this will be interesting. What interest rate will the investors demand?

If the stock market is going to sell off it will make bonds more attractive to investors. They look for safety. They will be willing to take a lower offer on the interest rates the bonds pay.

So if someone is in a position to manipulate markets maybe we'll see the market sell off just before the Illinois bond sale goes off eh?

Stock options expire on the third Friday of every month I believe, and the Thursday before expiration is usually active trading. So we're looking at expiration on the 15, two days from now.

The end of the month is also the end of the quarter and many investment funds make changes in their trading philosophy too.

Toss in the sequester scare stuff and the market can be manipulated down so that Illinois can get a good deal on their bond sales.

It's all speculation on my part. A wild guess. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Officers did their part now its time for the City to do theirs.

They confronted dangerous risks around the clock in unfavorable conditions for modest pay for decades and they EARNED their modest pensions. They were not gifts given.

The City doesn't want to earmark the funds to pay for what they've already received. The law requires it, the City will try and change the law. The fight is on.

Other Cities do it. NYC and LA don't have the same funding problem and their benefits are much higher.

Fairness and common decency requires officers fight back and not give their earnings away to the fat cats at the Civic Federation or 30 somethings at the Merc in the form of TIF grants and tax breaks.

He's still got a contract to write and doing anything that makes him look weak sets him up for complete failure.

Could you imagine trying to do a deal from the fetal position saying I'm sorry, I'm sorry I didn't realize so many of you felt this way? That would be like I'll do anything you want.

Naw man. He can put on that front but he's got some real issues to deal with I think. So does the Gov. We're talking about them breaking the social contract with the people. Messing with peoples retirement financial lively-hood are you kidding me?!

Rahm never let's the facts get in the way of his position.

He's all concerned with what's fair to the "taxpayers".
Well all of the employees covered by these pension funds are taxpayers too and it certainly wasn't fair to them when the city took a pension holiday for the last 25 years.
Now the chickens are coming home to roost and the politicians, the very scumbags who created this mess, are now all concerned about raising property taxes on the taxpayers to make up for the city's neglect of the pension funds.

Hey Rahm and your minions: GFY!

any surprises here? probably not; Rahm is who he is, a guy with no heart, soul or character, one who exhibits all the qualities of arrogance and condescension. If he wanted to be a leader loved by the people, one who receives 101% of the vote in an election (like Obama in some voting precincts), he should try Iran, Venezuela, or North Korea; with his personality, he would give Ahmedinejad (Iran), Chavez (Venezuela; there's an opening there), or Kim Jong Eun (North Korea) a real run for their money....

The problem is all you suck asses on the fucked up job will not do that (above). You are too worried about your damn VRI or working the roadside DUIs or task force. Or you are worried about getting dumped off of your coveted beat or being split from partners. I saw the writing on the wall 12 years ago and would see coppers get suspended and have to take out loans and panic and have to start saving over a 30 day suspension. Well kids I bet them at their own game. I started my own business not related to LEO work and have been at for 11 years now. Got a beach house in Costa Rica and got suspended for 30 days a few years ago. Guess what happened? When my suspension came I was at the peak of my business season and I went on to make more money when I was off and visited my beach house during that 30 days off (more just out of spite). I have 18 years on and am leaving in two more. Fuck you R.E. LOL as I am sitting pool side in my shorts right now. Suspend me, LOL. I really am LOL right now too. My advice to all coppers on this job. Plan. Plan. Plan. You do not have to put all your eggs in one basket. Start a biz. I did and people told me I couldn't do it. Well I did not buy my beach house with CPD money.

There's a reply to this notice that might get the mayor's attention. FOP and the Sgt's and Lt's PBPA's declare 1 Jul NO special day. This goes for everything especially CTA which no one should be doing for straight time anyhow if that's still the case, I've not looked at special in quite a few years because I believe it undermines our manpower issues. The collective bargaining units cannot call for any type of job action but these are all Voluntary wotk opportunities, outside of work and not in the contract. Any scab that decides they can't miss ONE day of special gets to become a fair share member, period.

Better yet since 1 Jul is a Monday let's make it 29 Jun.

This would show solidarity, highlight manpower needs, and show how much we normally do when the shit hits the fan on Michigan Ave and high profile areas with no police protection.

Start talking it up now so no one can claim they didn't know and can make plans that unless they're RDO they'll be working that night because there will be no elective time off. Hell even send a letter to the ballerina, McStat and news outlets to let them know so they can't spin it as a surprise.

I’m a unit rep by default - I ran unopposed three times in a row. But I do go to meetings. I did not vote for Mikey. This “letter” should have gone in when Mickey was elected. But it wasn’t sent. I blame first our full-time lawyer and then our holdovers from the last ticket plus two slugs Mikey brought upstairs to work for him.

Rahm may have just did us a favor by doing this just a couple of days after the Sgt’s sellout proposal was voted down. The arbitrator was always going to get this. The city has had contract talks for a year with us. I would rather lose at arbitration than give Rahm anything.

The union can not call for a job action. But I think since our own leader wants to do the broken window shit Again we should follow his lead. We should all spend the entire tour of duty in the station processing all the little shit we look the other way on because we are staying up for the in progress calls. Of course that would cause a no cars available situation. That might get someone’s attention. No Cars Available Fridays sounds good to me starting 22 Mar13. Then on Saturdays and the Sundays. Jobs will just stack up and up. But you have to do it right. We can bring this city to it’s knees if we all do our jobs legit. No sandbagging.

The only thing that matters is the bargaining position we will be in in another year down the road. This means every other city contract will have been negotiated by then. The city and state want to try and take advantage of their self created deficits to use as panic food. They just put themselves in a shit position that will expose their financial abuse for even longer.

This is why the city is falling apart . City hall has made enemies with the police. We are now a reactive force no longer proactive. And this is why the city is falling apart. No retro. Big Deal. He can keep my 1%. I keep working special VRI. No ot. Im not giving them that. Because that is proactive. Money coming out of every orifice every time I turn around. But no proactive policing from me.

Keeping our contract just the way it is, is just fine with me. The mayor has this City soo Fukd up he doesn't know his azz from the hole in ground where he just dumped 30 mil for a Maggie Daley park.
Pay what you owe the pension fund when you owe it and stop looking for an end around. stop lying to these people about the property taxes with massive increases. tell them the truth about what its really going to cost them. Float bonds. Open the TIFF account so people really see what is in there you fool. that will be opened soon when you try to pull a bankruptcy ploy. You're a one timer anyways and NOT gunna be president of this Great Nation.

The mayor has alienated the teachers union, the Sgt's union and will no doubt succeed in alienating FOP.

He has no intention to negotiate in good faith with FOP. His intention is to again negotiate away pension rights.

What stooges will he use this time? How many Jim Ade"s are out there ready to sell out?

The Sergeants in rejecting this farce of a contract did what the working Sergeants do every day. They led from the front with authority. They set the example for what is right. Almost 90 percent rejection is a slam dunk rejection and yet the mayor and his stooge,Ade, continue to say we are in denial.

I say you, mayor, are in denial. You were elected by the people to run Chicago in a fair and equitable way to the benefit of the citizens of Chicago. Instead you reward your political cronies at the expensive of the working class that built and run this city. Can you say red light!

You are a carpetbagger and you will not stand.

There are people in the FOP that have been there before and what ,they don't speak up and say anything about sending the termination letter. Shame on them. We're not poor, as long we don't give Rahm an inch I'm good with it. And you should be too.

"Whether that is right or wrong does not matter, its the perception of them and the effect it is having on the membership."

Really???? That is so typical. Ignorance with a keyboard. Shields is leading the charge on the pension battlefield and idiots like this are trying to bring him down. You're creating the "perception" your nitwit.

3/13/2013 05:56:00 AM

Hey nitwit, what does leading the charge on the pension battlefield have to do with the president lying to us about the letter? Shields created the problem by not reading our own contract and sending the notice at the proper time as spelled out in the contract. You expect him to get us a fair contract when he could not even read/understand the current one?

3/13/2013 12:53:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Does it really matter, an arbitrator is going to decide our contract anyway. Rham never had any intention of bargaining in good faith. The Sgt's contract sucked !!! Ade agreed to raise the pension contribution along with the minimum retirement age and gave away the yearly COLA, for what, a 9% raise that in essence is no raise at all. It looks like FOP screwed up by not filing that letter but the last few contracts have been back loaded with raises to avoid substantial retro pay. In regards to that letter, I sure hope any past or present FOP reps/officers didn't allow Shields to let that deadline pass knowingly just to make him look bad. Because if they did they hurt us all. Last I saw there were still a few seasoned board members down there that should have been in his ear. Whether you voted for him or not it's your duty to look out for the membership.I say give up nothing to this ass (Rham). Why should we pay more into our pension we didn't create this pension mess. Go ahead raise property taxes. Why should we pay a couple more thousand dollars a year into the pension fund? Let everyone share in the burden because the out right crimes of this and past administrations. My raised taxes won't amount to 3% more of my salary, not even close. Better yet tax toilet paper so EVERY asshole has to pay!!! Let it all go to arbitration. He's just like his buddy in DC , your going to give me what I want and you should be happy doing it. Screw him !!! Let's take it to arbitration.

If "pension matters are state law" : then how did the FOP have the power ( right) to forgive the city a 20 million contribution to the pension in an earlier negotiation?

3/13/2013 07:56:00 AM

Because the trade off was we went from 32 years and a day to 29 years in a day. Not one person at a meeting at the time was against it. It like two grains of sand from the North Ave beach.

"Some aldermen want hearings on fixing or dumping Taste of Chicago"

Fricken A man! The Taste lost $1.3 mil. dollars last year.

This so-called World-Class operation is gonna bankrupt us.

We don't need to build a $55 mil. Maggie Daley park to hold money losing festivals in for the tourist either.

What percentage of the taxpayers here is that park, the Taste, or the six-figure-per-mile bike paths benefiting? Ten percent if that?

The citizen taxpayers need to stop subsidizing this crap for the elite travelers. It's not helping.

How about paying the bill for 17 hours of medical staff trying to save that six-month old gang-bangers baby that was shot five times as a consequence of the culture the city leaders have created here. Eff the Taste! Maggie Park and the bike lanes.

No No because the dogs will be angry, remember MR Mayor there are 9 thousand men and women with guns that keep those dogs at bay, do not piss us off!!How about fix the Politicians and Judges pensions first, then look at ours, seems right to me.

If you've paid attention to Rahm back when he was running for Mayor he has always had a strong despise for ya and Fire and an even stronger dislike of our pensions.
He's wanted to screw us out of our pensions from the get-go. It's him and his fello slime ball politicians that keep beating the drum that the only way out of this is "pension reform" .... which really means larger contributions for us and less take home retirement income for us also. Meanwhile the city doesn't have to change their ways.
The slimeball politicians have been repeating this pension reform mantra so often the newspapers and public think it's the right and only thing to do.
Rahm I hope you rot in Hell.

Thanks for that -- Someone who thinks like me. 1% of $85000 is $850 dollars. $12.26 a week after taxes @ 25%. Big F'n deal. We have more important things to worry about like pensions. I'm not interested in a 33% increase to my contribution, like the Sgt's contract was calling for.

Put that 1% into my pension. If a $10 dollar bill a week gets you that excited, work VRI, you won't know what to do with all that excitement.

The G.O's are our ace-in-the-hole. No boss can take action against you if you follow them. Do you job according to them and don't worry.

For example-when you lock someone up and tow their car or truck-you are responsible for the contents of that vehicle. So be sure to inventory everything of intrinsic value in it.

When you do vehicle inspection on Sunday, be sure to note every defect and then go check them against the vehicle file.

These are just a few of the many ways to do a proper and thorough job following CPD G.O.'s.
