Kelly reportedly bought the AR-15 and a 1911-style semi-automatic pistol at a gun store in Tucson, Arizona.
Oops. But he didn't mean to! In fact, wait until you hear the reason he bought these "assault" weapons:
- I just had a background check a few days ago when I went to my local gun store to buy a .45. As I was leaving, I noticed a used AR-15. Bought that too. Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only takes a matter of minutes. I don't have possession of it yet but I'll be turning it over to the Tucson PD when I do.
So he's a humanitarian! He's spending probably over $1,000 to give a gun away. He probably believes the Drop-Box Initiative is a brilliant new idea in 21st Century policing, too.
As someone who served in the military (as he did), earned the Distinguished Flying Cross (which he did) and retired honorably (as he did) with no criminal record (as he doesn't) and served as a Space Shuttle pilot AND commander, he ought to be able to purchase a weapon with no problem, right? Well, yeah, that's what "Instant Background Check" means.
But when you start preaching for the other side, restricting Constitutional Rights that you swore to uphold against all enemies, foreign and domestic, well then you open up a whole can of stupid on yourself and deserve whatever comes your way.
No guns for anyone except the elite evidently - and we all know who the elite are, don't we?

As a cure for Mr. Kelly's emBARE-ASSment, Tucson P.D. should, as upholders and defenders of The United States Constitution, very publicly refuse said proffered and LEGALLY PURCHASED firearm from a United States citizen deemed competent by the laws of the land to purchase such a thing in the first place.
Unless Mr. Kelly wishes to have himself voluntarily declared INCOMPETENT as he was temporarily bereft of his senses to purchase such in the first place.
Thereby voluntarily disqualifying himself from ever being able to purchase firearms again.

As you know an assault rifle is fully automatic weapon an ar-15 like we use is or only shoots one round per pull of trigger. The lines to get into the Del Mar gun show stretched on and on, and freeway exits into Del Mar backed up for hours.
But satisfied customers leaving the gun show carried away heavy back packs, while others needed dollies to cart away piles of boxes of ammunition. Well-muscled men had trouble heaving boxes of bullets onto the trolley that sped them back to the parking lot, where their pick-ups were waiting.
Tom Gildesleeve, a young Marine who hailed from Northern Maine, grew up with guns.
“I had my first weapon before I was one year old,” he said, “ It was a :22 long rifle. I didn’t shoot it until I was three, but my parents taught me well.”
Gildesleeve said he can’t find the ammo he needs for target practice in the store any more, and he doesn’t feel comfortable mail ordering it into California in case it makes him a target of suspicion.
“They want to take my guns and my ammo from me,” he said.” What am I supposed to do but stock pile it?”
Jim Van Vleck of Coronado, a retired merchant Marine, said he got in line about 7:30 a.m., but met others who’d been in line since before dawn.
“California’s really cracking down on ammunition,” he said. “You can’t buy them in stores. I just ordered an M14, a mini 14, can’t get ammo for it yet. I just got my first shotgun, there are shotgun shells - 9 mm- you can’t hardly get it anywhere, you get to the stores and they’re sold out in a matter of hours.”

Another bright idea brought to you by the fine folks at the Office of Garry McSnitchbox.
I live in Tucson, and was in Diamondback Police Supply, where Kelly bought the gun, last Friday, they had a Sig 556 SWAT for $1800, but the pistol case was still pretty empty. The picture I've seen was taken in the store.
There is some further information locally, that he is having some custom work done on the AR, like a trigger job, and supposedly a suppressor put on it, before taking possession Of course the suppressor begs the question of what method he is using for the Tax stamp and additional paperwork. Maybe he is buying it under a NFA trust or Company, to get past the fingerprints and LE check.
The whole issue raises another question, If he is buying the AR and intends to give it to the TPD, isn't that a straw purchase? Is his whole intention to prove the point that existing gun laws aren't enforced?

This idiot was just doing his own research to see how the processes works for a lawbiding citizen to purchase a firearm. So when he answered yes to the question he later realized he was a scumbag hypocrite. Maybe he should just go out and buy all the guns he can and hand them over to the gov. so revenue will continue to go up for the gun companies and so will my stock.

Yes, drums are problematic, especially newer ones made of thinner metal in a big hurry, etc. This sort of thing takes cleaning, polishing, deburring, study of what is going on in there by a skilled man -- and may not be much worth the trouble.
Probably they make more sense on a full-auto weapon with a high cyclic rate. TSMG prototype dumped out 20 rounds in about 1 1/2 seconds. Say it. "One thousand one one thous..." Need more capacity if you are going to get a few bursts before reloading. When the Navy ordered 1928 models, they lowered the cyclic rate to a saner 500 per minute by making the actuator heavier, and thus slower to reciprocate. I think the simplified "M1" WWII version was slowed down as well. All this is apples and oranges from shooting semi-auto.
The heavy old "L" and "C" drums on TSMG were one thing, newer stuff does not have the quality. Even the Thompson drums have to be carefully loaded in a certain sequence, the spring wound a certain way, etc.
I always preferred 20-rd over 30-rd box mags -- 30s seem too long, more likely to hit them on a doorway, etc. Maybe this is true for a more slender weapon like a .30 Carbine or a Mini-14, without the whole lower/pistol grip configuration. 30 is the default for most military and military-type today, though.
You can't buy "speed, power, accuracy" off the shelf, of course. The well-trained and -practiced shooter is the key.

No, there's not a 72 hour wait outside the People's Republic of Illinois. We're so used to being regulated by communists that we forget that in the rest of the country, the Constitution is still the law and you can purchase a firearm without waiting to exercise your constitutional rights. Only Illinois makes you wait to enjoy the Bill of Rights.

They know that at this time, if they attempted to change the provisions of the 2nd Amendment legally in Congress there would be a major push-back and there positions in power would be at risk.
So, they chip away at the Constitution from the edges and they pervert the law and the meaning of the law from the local fiefdoms they control by ballot stuffing, undercounting and illegals and dolt's voting.
They're working diligently and waiting for the day the Federal & State Courts are sufficiently stacked with enough appointed Leftist judges (and Leftist candidates for Judgeships) so they can circumvent the will of the people and eliminate the 2nd Amendment by the Courts rather then by the the proper broader citizen representation of Congressional action that the Constitution dictates.
Once they have taken away the citizen's right to protect themselves from tyranny, imagine how embolden they will become then? It's pretty obvious, given there actions up to now.

I was just about to publish my latest editorial as promised, on Canada's Supreme Court Decision to suspend Freedom of Speech, in favor of promoting one language over all others. THEN THE CONNECTICUT SCHOOL SHOOTING HAPPENED.
Next to language issues in Canada, and a failed Judicial System in both of our countries, what happened in Connecticut takes precedence. I won't waste words describing my feelings, because how I feel about as many as, and maybe more than 26 people murdered, including 18 children is indescribable.
BUT I WILL TELL YOU WHY IT HAPPENED:
It didn't happen because of the so-called gun culture, or because of poor security at the school. It happened because of the modern LEFTIST culture that has removed all semblances of personal responsibility and respect.
It happened because of the Hollywood and television types who lecture the Conservatives on how people should live, while they make FORTUNES producing absolute FILTH in their movies and on television programs.
It happened because of reality television shows that demean humanity. And shows that make people laugh at the pain and humiliation of others.
It happened because multi-millionaire computer game producers create UGLY digital scenarios that poison young minds with abject and gratuitous violence.
It happened because the school system doesn't teach values, and promotes the idea that everything goes. And that all people are equal regardless of the truth. And that no one ever fails.
It happened because LEFTISTS won't allow concerned and loving parents to discipline their children, or raise their children the way they want to.
It happened because far too many Liberals spend far too much time and effort ridiculing and attacking people who want to live by the lessons of the Bible and the Torah.
In truth . . . this and other horrible acts of violence happen, because our society from our entertainment industry, to schools, to the media, and our governments have created the social and cultural foundation that is eating away at our countries like a cancer.
I know that what I just wrote WILL inflame those on the LEFT, and that's OK, because if they don't like it . . . they can ROT in HELL along with the demons of their own creation.
I want my old country values back . . . . . . when we stood in school when an adult entered the room. When we were really disciplined for bad behavior. When we were measured by our successes and failures. When not everyone had to waste years of his or her life in college studying basket weaving instead of taking a trade course, or going to work right after finishing high school. When your mom was a woman and your dad was a man. And when there weren't vulgar parades extolling the virtues of being gay.
