This is America?

  • New Jersey officials, including police and the Department of Children and Families, are on the defensive today, after they raided the home of Shawn Moore, a firearms instructor for the National Rifle Association, demanding to see his guns after he posted a photo on Facebook of his son, Josh, 11, holding a rifle his father had given him as a birthday present.

"Someone called family services about the photo,” said Evan Nappen, an attorney who represents Moore. “It led to an incredible, heavy-handed raid on his house. They wanted to see his gun safe, his guns and search his house. They even threatened to take his kids."

[...] When the police confirmed they did not have a warrant to search his home and after a social worker refused to identify herself, Moore asked the officials to leave.

    They adhered to his request.
Classic liberal overreach. We certainly hope that Mr. Moore is successful in his lawsuit and collects damages from every single person involved in this blatant violation.

In other Civil Rights news, the National Assault Weapons Ban is dead:
  • After a meeting yesterday with Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Dianne Feinstein learned that her controversial assault weapons ban mess will not be part of the gun control bill package heading to the senate floor next month.

The AWB could be offered up as an amendment, but the bill was already considered a long shot, as senate democrats will be facing a competitive election cycle for 2014. Many face constituents back home who do not support such legislation.

So the dad takes a picture of his kid standing in camo holding a firearm with his finger off the trigger. (Apparently the kid knows more about gun safety than Joe-shoot-your-shotgun-thru-the door Biden)

Some rabid anti-gunner gets in a snit and calls NJ Child Welfare.

What was the exact wording of the outcry? Merely holding a firearm is considered "Child Endangerment?"

The police are in the middle here. They have to assist Child Welfare on these cases. At least they knew their limits.

The AWB is not dead.

The AWB is waiting for the rest of the gun bill to be implemented. The important part of that is universal registration and requirements for all transfers to go through FFLs and put into a database. THEN they will bring out the AWB and go door-to-door.

Expect felony penalties for failure to report thefts and losses.

MEANWHILE
Out of 76,000 prohibited persons flagged by the instant check system, only 13 were successfully prosecuted nationwide. Vice President Biden said they don't have time to prosecute those people.
So the answer is lets create more gun laws when the feds don't enforce the current ones when background checks raise a red flag?

I can you that off duty and retired police officers have had problems in New jersey and New York City regarding concealed carry. Remember the man who was flying across country and declared his unloaded firearms in his checked bags and his plane was forced to land in NJ? He was arrested by police for weapons in his bag and he was convicted and sent to prison. The governor had to intervene and pardon him. Not friendly state and no common sense.

They had no probable cause to enter the home period. I would hope before IDCFS asked you to gain entry you would ask to read the hotline complaint, and what backround had been checked, such as prior IDCFS contact and if the allegation required removing the child from the home without delay.

The police and social services conducted a "heavy handed" raid, but, as soon as they were asked to leave, they did? What this sounds like to me is that a couple cops and a social worker knocked on a guys door because someone complained about a picture of a kid with a rifle (a fear most likely related to the rash of recent school shootings). When he wouldn't talk to them, they left. What about this was heavy handed? or illegal? or overreaching? or deserving of damages? It sounds like cops doing their jobs.

They do have plans to get your guns. They just don't want to release them yet.

NJ is a pretty rough state when it comes to gun control.

I grew up in South Jersey & I remember a cop telling me one time that if I ever had to shoot someone on my property, drag his body in the house. Not sure if it it was jest, but I always remembered that.

I hope this family whose rights were violated win a very large lawsuit.

And fuck NJ, well, except Berlin, because that's where I grew up and it's still as quaint now as it was then. :)
