CFD to "Escort" Students

If you don't have enough cops, bring in the firemen!

No word yet if the FOP or Firefighters Local will be filing some sort of job action on this one. According to the memo, it's supposed to run for three weeks.

All These guys and gals of CFD despise this Ryan for good reason. Go to the www.truenews site for some info on this but it's now under older items.

Wait till a firefighter gets hurt trying to help some kid out and the city denies his medical. Or better yet. What happens when CFD onviews a gang fight and calls for CPD backup, meanwhile someone gets shot or killed. Can't wait for all the savages shouting into the news cameras "The fire dept was there and watched ray ray get shotfied. They didn't even get out of their truck to help."

Rahm farted this flaming rat turd of a missile fully expecting it to fly?

Chicago is beset with LUNATICS!
Do any of these geniuses live in a world where the sky is blue and the grass is green?

Or is it a case of every-fucking body else is crazy but them?

Cue the recent Mother's Day foolishness in New Orleans as an example of the "Don't Give No Fuck" culture that thinks nothing of shooting into crowds of people...

Seriously?
Rahm & Co. have faith that Dude & Co. will check their fratricidal fire due to the presence of unarmed Firemen "escorting" the kiddies to school?

There go dat BULLSHIT Ol' Grand-Dad used to warn you about.

Heh... The Russians sent unarmed conscripts over the top (at machinegun point) to face the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front.

*Comrade Commissar... Where are our weapons?*

>Laying on the ground in the hands of the dead... Tovarisch.<

Unarmed Firemen performing a Police function of public safety as a cynical political ploy?

With axes and pikes at port arms maybe? Just Kidding...

So... is this what Rahm meant when he stopped by the Fire House and threatened the Firemen with, "Well, Ya gonna have to learn to bleed?"

Fuck Rahm... Let HIM and his alder mutts march THEIR tender and unarmed asses through these free-fire zones "For The Children."

We vaguely recall reading a quote that said in essence that it's good for the morale of soldiers in harm's way to see a few of their generals laying on the ground.

Heh... You'll never see local elected officialdom leading from the front or taking full frontal generalship on this spasm of fuckery.

Why... They might have to face the same peril Policemen and Firemen face!

>Pffft!<

Toss a pack of lady-finger firecrackers and watch Tiny and the 50 $110K gumps run each other over while screaming for the "overpaid" Coppers and Firemen to do something.

>Snicker!<

Fuck it all then... Let Ceasefire do the escort since Flamin' Tutu is so damn big on crisis management, message control and spin doctoring.

It'll be a priceless political talking point and photo-op too.

Dude & Co. WILL do the fool as is their wont.

It ain't a Police OR Fire problem...

The cowardice and pandering of elected officialdom is what has allowed things to decay to the point of unarmed Firemen being cynically pressed (under pain of politically motivated discipline and retaliation) into performing this function, because Police Manpower has been so thoroughly and intentionally destroyed...

If anyone is killed or injured in this exercise of fuckery, the ones who orchestrated this should be dangled with the offender(s).

The desperation IS showing...

We then escort the child home where we will have our own designated room in the childs home. Well, since CFD has minimum staffing requirements that is why you will see complete companies of CFD escorting students.

At what cost to the taxpayer?

How much does it cost to take an engine out of a firehouse?

And what about the public safety issues? What if that engine is needed for a fire, where will the replacement be coming from and from how far?

I am sure that there are many more questions that need to be asked.

Wouldn't the "positive adult presence" come from the parents ? Maybe they should start school at 3pm. This way grandma has enough time tio get up, head out to the hood, walk around till she finds mama on the corner, take her home, clean her up then stand with her on the safe passage path so she doesn't wander back to the corner at least till her child walks safely into school.

Santiago is a Political Hack, and as with all Cook County Machine Hacks, the Party is the first and foremost entity to be protected above all else. Lil Rahm knows, that if one kid is killed or beaten en route to a new school; Rahm's Black support and Second Term disappears! My only question is what happens if the firefighters are forced to fight? Will the firefighters be covered if they use their equipment to defend themselves? If they are injured defending youths, is that a job related injury, or death? Is there going to be special training, on what to do? At a time when Rahm is trying to take away benefits from the Firefighters Contract; any member who cooperates is jumping out of a plane without a parachute. Baby"G"

CFD used to be a pretty rough crowd. I remember in the mid/late 60s some of the Cabrini Green geniuses used to to pull alarm boxes and wait for the truck to show up so they could throw bricks and bottles.

I remember one incident on North, Larrabee and Ogden when they tried that. Note to geniuses, probably not the best idea to piss off large men wearing helmets and carrying axes and those long pokey things. (Remember the Vikings?)

Anyway, last I saw was a large group of Cabrini Greeners running south back towards the jungle with a few "Vikings" in pursuit.

I thought the same thing. I also read that Fioretti was saying this is the last thing we need at this time, especially for a team that only plays 18 games. Maybe Rahm's hold on the 50 thieves isn't what he thought it was. Also read that his new parking meter deal is a couple of votes short of passing. It's not a mutiny, but at least it's something.

If they can walk around at intersections with boot in hand asking for donations, then they can cross the kiddies as well. I guess they finally realized that the firemen in certain houses have a lot of down time. I've often felt that we should be allowed to come back to the station after handling a job and hang out in the break room. To sit back in a comfy leather recliner and watch the big screen HD television or maybe shoot a game of pool to relieve the stress. How about it FOP...

It is about time the hero's got involved.
Get out of the house, see the world.

How many times can they wash the truck or mop the floors?
Remember, they get paid to watch TV, read the paper, work out, eat and sleep.
They get paid by the city, while they run their businesses on cell phones and laptops.

Few of their runs involve any fire at all.
Most their runs are ambulance assists, where they stand around waiting for the ambulance. The only "action" they see is watching Chicago Fire on NBC. The CFD is not like Chicago Fire.

This escort assignment is just killing time, out of the house, while waiting for a run. They just won't have the above describe amenities.

Please don't tell me about the dangers, stress, sleep deprivation, etc of a firefighter. Cops have to worse times two.

You're right, I should have joined the CFD. When I was a young, I thought the firefighter's job was boring. I still do. When I was young, I didn't understand their benefits. I do now.

Can you imagine what Hoff's reaction to this might be? That man had balls, not little bitty bolas like Santiago.

This fire commissioner was bought, we all know that.

Hoff was awarded the Lambert Tree/Carter Harrison Medal not once but twice! Good men work their whole careers praying for a chance to work for a boss like Hoff; instead they get a eunuch like Santiago.

Strong and tough men will run into a fire building if someone like Hoff is there to lead them, no questions asked.

Disgusting.

And somehow, Mayor 9.5 is about to magically find $100 million for a new DePaul basketball stadium.

No money for proper police, though.
-----

I thought the same thing. I also read that Fioretti was saying this is the last thing we need at this time, especially for a team that only plays 18 games. Maybe Rahm's hold on the 50 thieves isn't what he thought it was. Also read that his new parking meter deal is a couple of votes short of passing. It's not a mutiny, but at least it's something.

5/14/2013 09:05:00 AM

Well, I can't not mention the $55 million for Maggies Park or the $250 milion already committed for a new Malcolm X College to replace the one that is barely 30 years old.

I hope they make reading a requirement to graduate from the new one.

So between Maggie Daley Park and Malcolm X College, that is $305 million bucks.

Or, 3,050 police officers.

Good F#ck these "hero's" It's about time someone put them in their place! These guys should be on 8.5 tours and suffer like every other city worker. They make great money to do very little. It's like they are on government assistance too. Don't give me the BS that "we run all day and night on EMS runs when there isn't a fire" BS!! You guys may go one EMS runs but do very little while on scene. Waste of tax payers money. If suburb FD's can do 3 man rigs so can the city......

You're a fucking tool and probably a fucking mutt ducker! As far as doing nothing on EMS runs, that's a load of shit. Most of the time (certainly in my area), EVERYTHING is done prior to the ambo showing up. By who? By us and that includes carting these minature elephant pts down the stairs from the 3rd or 4th floor. And being there first b4 the ambo at a CPD 10-1. Who's working the PO before the ambo shows? No one especially the first fire company? Yeah we just stand around and hold hands praying that he/she will be ok!

Maybe in your beat or your neighborhood, it's quiet and good for you. Go to ANY house on the South and West Sides and I can guarantee you they run a lot - day and nite.

3 man companies? Try that in ANY area that still gets fires on a regular basis. Especially, if bigger buildings are involved (courtyards, multi units 4 plus 1's, hi rise). Places that have LOADS of section 8. Most burbs do not have buildings like the above and VERY old at that. Then we'll see how many more people die. Not to mention CFD LODD's.

BTW - that's not a complaint about my job. It's what I signed up for. But don't marginalize us either. Your comments are akin to saying all police just hang out at the donut shop and do nothing ex drink coffee and flirt with girls. Obviously, that is FAR from the truth. Especially in the above mentioned areas. No denying, the job of a PO is VERY hard. And I'm VERY quick to point that out when people say FF's are much nicer than PO's. My response is usually a) there are good and bad in both depts. b) the crap you guys deal with is ENORMOUS. c) The amount of restraint you have for the true animals on the street is even greater. I have nothing but RESPECT for you guys.

So next time, you wanna mouth off about FF's doing nothing, you should get your facts straight jagoff!

The memo says the firemen "will provide support when and if they(school students walking the route) need it". Does this mean firemen must leave their rigs and disperse gang bangers along the route? Should they mediate disputes, break up fights, chase down offenders? This is clearly a contract violation, forcing firemen to do jobs they are not properly trained or equipped to do.

This is the most ridiculous order I've seen. And there have been many, but this one takes the cake. Why the hell should any first responder be used as a babysitter? There are so many reasons why this is just a plain bad and ill conceived policy. The people responsible for this must have gotten their management degrees from a cracker jack box. CFD is not trained or equipped to handle on-view disturbances, especially if there is a gun involved. Their union leaders are cross-eyed and simple if they allow their men and women to be used as referees for these ghetto mutts that want to start crap with kids from opposing schools. I grew up in this city, and NEVER ONCE had police supervision at dismissal, extra curricular sporting events, dances, etc. If the school needed help, they would have actual PARENTS volunteer to do it. This bs about "it's for the children" and "safety" is just sugar coating the truth that this is another government subsidy which the comes directly from the the taxpayers' wallet to pay for the inattentive, absentee, neglecting "parents" of these kids, most of whom are already on some, if not all, state assistance. Meanwhile, the taxpaying middle, and increasing lower-middle class continues to foot the bill for all of it. The political elites, including rahm, continue to enjoy 24/7 personal security, this includes their families, with each precious child enjoying an armed police escort to the store, to the game, to school etc, watching them while they sleep every night. We the working class have to fend for ourselves, and watch our own children and trust they will make it back home in one piece; no escorts, no assistance, no armed guard, no driver- just relying on being a responsible parent. What a concept.

See we are all realist here and what you read on this blog is envy. We know we are dumb for becoming the police when we could of been FF's instead and got payed the same salary to work less days and do nothing when on the city clock. Go push that hero shit somewhere else. I have the utmost respect for the paramedics who roll all night long on their 24 hr shift and deal with the same assholes we have to, they earn our respect and their pay.

What's the problem? They drive the big red machine out of the house, in the daylight, to where they are told to park or cruise a designated route. Just like when they assigned to a neighborhood parade or block party. The firefighter is your friend.

If they get a run, they go to the run. If they see a problem, they call for CPD.

Other workers, S&S, electric co, gas co, telephone, post office, FedEx, etc, all perform their jobs in the same neighborhoods without big problems.

You DO understand there's 70lbs of gear for every fireman? You DO understand all the firemen won't be walking the same route or the same group of children? You DO understand that the difference in FIVE MINUTES of fire response time can determine if your house is a total loss or just inconveniently smoke-damaged?

Fire trucks are often sent out in lieu of ambulances, too. Do I want my mother dying of a heart attack because Mayor CompletelyOuttaTouch thinks it's cute to send the firemen out to play anti-violence security guard games?

Quoting from the memo of Commissioner Santiago:

"For Phase I, the CFD will conduct surveys for all Safe Passage routes for all welcoming schools. This involves identifying abandoned buildings located on and around the routes and making the determination if they are open and/or dangerous."

Some time ago at a staff meeting at a West Side district we were told we were going to do the same thing. I told my fellow white shirts that this would be a waste of our time. There is someone in every neighborhood that knows exactly that information and would be glad to share that information.

There was a couple of hundred years of police experience in that room and there was stunned silence. In about the same time it takes to play the Final Jeopardy tune to play an older Sergeant said, "The Letter Carrier."

Stay Safe, when you don’t hire enough police bring in the Mailmen.

Is Jose Santiago the fire commissioner or is he just filling in until Rahm's term is over; more than likely that is what it is. He only got that position because of his past skeletons and what he has on those that were involved with him. He doesn't have the real credentials for that job. Investigate his past to his present and you will blow the lid off his position.

Jose Santiago makes $200K a year plus his $150K pension. He's a sell-out and Rahm's puppet. 33 years on the job and he puts the knife in everybody's back for money. This guy has no shame, he's a Benedict Arnold, acts like he cares about the department. Did you see the changing of guards video and did you see him holding his laugh when Hoff left the department in the online video when he started to talk? Who do you think was behind Hoff getting booted? This guy is a sell-out and would do anything for money...

It's obvious the CFD commissioner didn't read the CFD contract before he issued that memo to the Department. Wow! And, he replaced Hoff? Look at what he did during the winter storm 2 years ago...? Another fiasco in the ruins. 33 years of experience in what...? Does this guy think he can't be replaced? He's an embarrassment to the CFD and Chicago altogether one fiasco after another.

And, when the lawsuits start..., they should go after the current pinhead Jose Santiago that put that request in writing which is on the internet. He's an idiot to put that in writing before reading the contract and talking to the Union about it before he made his mentally ill decision to slam the CFD with duties that they are not trained nor equipped for. Who's asshole is he sucking?!
