Interesting Differences
The 16-year-old shot and killed by CPD last week was covered as follows:
- A teenaged gunman on a bicycle who officials said was firing shots at pedestrians and police officers was fatally shot by police...
- ...[officers] spotted the offender firing shots at pedestrians and fleeing southbound on a bicycle while brandishing a handgun...
- The officers were pursuing the offender when he turned towards the officers and fired shots at them, prompting the officers to fire their weapons and hit the gunman...
- A semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene...
You kind of get a feel for what was happening, the article justifies police actions, it explains a running gun battle. And still, we get auntie and other relatives giving statements to the media about the usual - altar boy, never in trouble, soon-to-be-rapper, pre-school graduate with honors, etc.
Then you have the FBI shoot someone and they get this treatment:
Then you have the FBI shoot someone and they get this treatment:
- A robbery suspect was shot dead by an FBI agent in the parking lot of a bank in the small town of Richmond in McHenry County this morning...
- None of the men entered the bank when the shooting broke out in the parking lot, according to FBI spokeswoman...
- “There were multiple shots fired and one of the suspects was fatally injured,’’...
- The suspect who was killed as inside a vehicle...
Not to nitpick, but no word on shots fired at the feds, no word on gun(s) found to be in possession of the bad guys, nothing that says any of them made it out of the car, toward the bank or toward an agent. Not that we think that the feebs did anything wrong (these guys did some other stickups), but the reporting is just horseshit. CPD gives out a pile of information justifying action taken and the reporters appear to give the FBI a pass just because they're feebs?
It just feels like the media isn't doing their job again.

My thoughts exactly, but later reports "FBI agents immediately surrounded the Civic, then Starnes rammed an agent’s car, causing authorities to shoot and kill him. They then apprehended Russell, who was wearing a mask and gloves, according to the affidavit.......he had two handguns in the back seat of the Civic and that Starnes had a gun on the front seat of the Tahoe, the affidavit states"
Bad guys arrived in two cars.

It's Ben fucking ghazi!
"It just feels like the media isn't doing their job again."
When have they ever done their jobs?
Useless hacks, fucking vultures and vermin. That’s it. I haven’t met or experienced one here in the (bought and paid for) Chicago Media that was worthwhile in the last 15 years. It’s a dying art form, much like the old Stone Cutters of the Pilsen Neighborhood. Kup, Royko, Terkel, “Bulldog” Drumond… gone. And we get who in their place? Carol Marin? Sure, every once in a great while, one of them gets something good, juicy and worthwhile, but I think the next “Big Breaking Story” by these Hacks will be the Cubs winning the World Series.
But then again, what do you expect? WE, Police, Fire… WE DO SOMETHING. Granted, at times it may not be much, but we still DO SOMETHING. Be it go after a bad guy down a dark alley in the middle of the night, run into a burning building, save a live, and at times, end a life. Talk about a JOB! And what a great stroke to the ego. We go out and put it all on the line.
What about them? Yep, the Media, the Reporters, what do they do? What’s their function in life? Think about it… They TALK about what others DO. Hurricane Katrina, Remember when the Media filmed the poor guy drowning? They WATCHED. WE would have jumped in and at the least, tried to do something. 9/11, all of the Media Helicopters, and not one of them attempted to go to the top of the World Trade and get ONE, just ONE person and save them? Naaa… to busy rolling film.
They yammer about “The Truth”. They wouldn’t know “The Truth” if it bit them in the ass. Hide behind The First Amendment and put out the “If it bleeds, it leads” stories of the day to sell ad spots from Macy’s and Best Buy. Watch how they use the microphone much like a phallus, penis envy from a job that requires none. Sad… What’s the last line of Teddy Roosevelt’s “The Critic” speech? Oh, that’s right, something about … “so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.”
I know they read SCC, and I know they’ll be reading this. Have fun laying your head on your pillow tonight with the thought of when you wake, we’ll ALWAYS be grabbing something bigger than you do when standing before the porcelain throne. Sweet dreams!
"No self-respecting fish would want to be wrapped in a Murdoch paper" M.R.
The only thing that scares the city politician is an all out riot, I say bring it on!!
In all fairness...it didn't happen in shitcago. So the bad guys momma...auntie...reverund...and play cuzzins...probably weren't on scene taking pictures of their dead bodies and trying to steal their hops. No empty bottles of gin= no sob stories for our liberal soft as baby shit reporters. In all fairness.
Oh there's a " prejudicial" slant on CPD shootings. Especially now with the contract issues brewing. Look at the writeup of Tiny in the slum-times. All pretty much positive no mention of his ranking slipping. But they are doing one that's strange. They are more or less copying hey jackass and redeye tracker now with homicide watch
Color me surprised.
The Feds don't even TRY to justify anything. They just say ... this is what happened ... take it or leave it.
No way am I defending the media, but in the case of the bank robbery shooting, we're not going to see some entitled momma crawl out of the woodwork and talk about how her son was just turning his life around and, instead of a recent mug shot from his last incarceration for attempted murder or armed robbery, show him dressed up like Little Lord Fauntleroy at his First Communion.
OTOH, if this HAD been some 18 year old Southside POS, I suspect there would have been more info from the Feds justifying the shooting and a lot more weeping and wailing from the "public" over the loss of a rising star.
About the only thing you can count on is that Rahm's lapdogs in the media will continue to jam it to you because that's what he wants, because that's what his core voting block wants.
You done good, the Feds done good.
Watch your backs, stay safe, and fook da media clowns.
Local mainstream print and electronic media are nothing more than the propaganda wing of the lying shamelessly corrupt Democratic Machine. They have lost all credibility.
Oh,the media is doing their job,all right.
Just like City Hall tells them to.
This will be an interesting media town if the Koch brothers buy the Tribune. Not bleeding heart liberals.
Any mention of taking the Blago wire down earyl?
Thought not.
The FBI spends a lot of time nurturing their relationship with the media. We don't, and we don't really have media here. We have a propaganda ministry for socialists.
Still waiting for the Feds to go after the dirty judge that let the states attorney off....
momma said little junior was murdered by the police "in cold blood"--- momma should have put the pipe and bottle down and checked junior's sock drawer out a little better--- I'm sure the loevy's and ekl have been calling her non stop trying to sign her up for a lawsuit--- the city will pay even though the officers did nothing wrong....
The people of Richmond responded with gratatude ! And I have not seen any graduation pictures on the news yet ! Winning !
Everyone misses the point that today's mainstream "journalists" are not really journalists in the sense of muckrakers of the past. Today's "journalist" just copies and rehashes the press releases from whatever the government entities allow them to read. showing up hours after an event occurs to "report the story" is as dirty as their job gets.
It's all about the press releases.
How did the FBI know the bad guys would be at that bank or were they at all branchs?
Its' always the same w/the media incompetence bad reporting and trying to make the CPD look bad. Why don't they look at Obama or Clinton or any number of politicians who are constantly screwing up?
Can't wait to see the 48 Hours episode dedicated to the horror that is Rham Emmanuel's Chicago. It is airing this Saturday, May 18th, at 9 o'clock Central time.
OT: But just read rick morrisey's column in today's Slum Times about derrick rose. Derrick was givin the clearance by DOCTORS to play 2 months ago but insists he's not ready to play on the advice of his brother reggie whoever the fuck he is. Meantime lil derrick gets 10 million a year. Hey ricky morrisey if you want to do derrick just do him and not put it in print ASSHOLE!
Did Shields fire Geiger yet? He's the burning tire around Mikes neck.

I'd subscribe again
Sorry to say this, but federal agencies in general have more credibility in the eyes of the public than CPD.
O.T. CTA is safe to ride, just check out this video. http://youtu.be/G0gQuiM9VcQ
The old man is not a drunk as the comments would have you think, he is a regular on that bus. The bus driver locked the doors and would not let anyone on or off. No one seemed to be bothered by the fight. Police arrived quickly but it seems like forever in the moment. And yes, the person filming it did get involved but could not film and break it up at the same time. In fact, his video helped us sort out the incident. The old man refused to sign on the so called "gurls."
