Frost Warning?
Check that calendar - yup, it's May:
- Any industrious gardeners who have already started on their summer planting may have some dead vegetation come Monday morning: The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for tonight for northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.
And speaking of dead vegetation, Tommy Skilling is helping to keep McJersey in business:
- Four people have been killed and at least nine wounded in violence throughout the city since Friday, police said.
It's going to hit 80's later this week, maybe 90 degrees at some point. Anyone want to bet on the midweek total?

Mayor Emanuels constituents are not happy with his job performance.
Golden Rule of Chicago gardening:
Never plant before Mother's Day.
If you've lived here more than one calendar year, you should know this already. It will save you lots of time and money.
It's global warming and George Bush's fault. It said so in the papers and on the news, so it has to be true.
Low information voters, ya gotta love them. (not really)
Latest body count:

The Sun Times called upon Jesus and now it is only 3 dead. Or maybe Garry simply made a call to editors.
Once again SCC, get your shit straight. Weather has NOTHING to do with crime. Gmac declared it.
FYI, This is NOT Global Warming! It is being renamed "Climate Change" by the Politboro so as not to confuse the low-information types who may question why warming = cold.
They will, however, have no problem understanding that the only way to "fix" it is through higher taxes.
typical chicago weather--- one day you're outside in shorts soaking up some rays and the next day you are wearing a parka freezing your ass off--- the hawks over detroit in 6--- the wings looked impressive against the ducks but will not be able to handle a well rested hawks team....
Frost hell. I was up in Door County Saturday and there was a blizzard in the morning. WTF???
I really want to see an animated heatmiser and snowmiser episode for chicago's homicide rate on one of our beloved new stations...soon!!
You should never plant before the "ides of May"! Growing up with grandparents who lived on farms explained that there is usually a frost in early - mid May. The "ides of May" as they called it, usually occurred before the third weekend in May. Plant after the third weekend. Been following that rule for ally my gardening forever!
Hopefully I will not have to turn the heat on in the building I am drywalling for fear that durabond will freeze.
How is the police Superintendent supposed to stop animals whose answer to any problem is to resort to violence? The people in these violence plagued communitites need to blame themselves and stop being stupid, lazy, self hating and violent. There almost as many lazy thieves and thugs as decent people and that is another reason there is so much violence. The police too need to lock up the thugs and not their victims and the sorry nothings who colloborate with the thugs, even if that includes our "aldercreatures" and congressmen.
Hey Tommy Skilling you are THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!! CPD LOVES YOU OUR GUY. Hey SCC Lets send Tom an HONORABLE MENTION that we get at roll call. Tom trying to keep us chili but Tommy it is not your problem. U DA BEST!

Actually, the AVERAGE last date of frost in Chicago is 15 May.
It can and has happened as late as the last day of the month of May.
In order to be absolutely sure your plants will survive, do not plant before the last weekend of May.
I do buy my plants well before Mother's Day and they go in and out of the garage (day and night) until planting.
Happy gardening all.

Should have stayed three more days; it's much warmer now and midweek, it'll be in the 70's. We'll think of you at the fishboil Wednesday.
Things are looking up.
