Sneed Spins Old News

This sounds familiar...almost like we covered it over a week ago:
  • The McCarthy era . . .

Sneed is told Police Supt. Garry McCarthy is shaking up the police department by getting rid of “legacy” top brass.

◆ Translation: Top cop holdovers from Mayor Richard M. Daley’s regime are retiring — through decision or force— and going bye bye.

◆ Job changes: Although Chief of Patrol Joe Patterson, whom McCarthy appointed, has opted to retire — Sneed is told Chief of the Bureau of Detectives Tom Byrne is leaving as well as Tina Skahill, chief of special functions. “Her job will not be filled,” said a top source.

◆ Bottom line: This enables McCarthy, who has recently seen homicide stats drop dramatically, to stamp his signature on the Chicago Police Department by picking his own top cops.

◆ Backshot: Last December, the bell tolled at midnight for top cops toiling in the city’s top shooting galleries and murder dens — when McCarthy named seven new police commanders.
Point of order - McCarthy has yet to demote one single boss, so he isn't leaving his mark on anything. In fact, he has a Deputy Chief running a district, something that hasn't occurred in Department history as far as we're aware.

Sneed ought to wonder why 3 separate chiefs, including one "appointed" by McCarthy as the best man for the job, all resigned rather than continue serving under this superintendent.  And maybe ask about the circumstances of the resignations - rumor is the hallways are still echoing from the "dialogue" between Patterson and McJersey.

Once again, the media abdicates its responsibility to ask questions and merely regurgitates City Hall press releases and spins them for the mayor.

Example of Political Influence and Police Union

From LA TIMES

The union for Los Angeles police officers is pumping another $850,000 into an independent effort backing mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel, the largest single contribution from one source during the campaign.

The Los Angeles Police Protective League, which represents about 10,000 police officers, has now spent roughly $1.4 million to back Greuel.

McfullofShit addressed this article yesterday at the end of Compstat. He made it clear that nobody was forced out. He also stated he didn't want Tom Byrne to leave. Now let me back track a little, earlier in the meeting he thru a shot at Byrne, maybe his speech at the end was a backass apology because he realized he had acted like a 6 year old by trying to embarrass Byrne. Best thing about all of this was Byrne left the meeting at the break and never came back. So he wasn't around to hear the praise by Mcfathead.
Also McClueless made it a point to say there has not been any outside influence in his promotion choices, he makes the decisions on everyone.
Further he hinted at the fact he wants to move more bosses from good spots to districts, he feels that's a step up the ladder, because patrol is the backbone and all major promotions Should come from people within patrol. Two of the current bosses that may be moved, because He singled them out specifically, are O'grady and Salemme.
Sorry to all if you waiting for Det,Sgt or Lt promotions he did not address it at all.

OT - from FOP website:

Retiree Healthcare
May 7, 2013

At the May Board meeting, the Lodge 7 Board of Directors voted unanimously to utilize the services of attorney Clint Krislov and help fund an amicus brief in the Illinois Supreme Court as well as litigation addressing the upcoming end of the Korshak Settlement Agreement, which expires on June 30, 2013. This is an issue of critical importance to our retirees and active members alike, as it will help determine the future of retiree healthcare for City of Chicago employees.

The FOP is proud to be the first and only Union to commit resources to this legal fight. There is no attorney in Chicago with more experience and knowledge on retiree healthcare and the Korshak litigation than Mr. Krislov. The Lodge is aware that Attorney Krislov has sent an e-mail to selected retirees soliciting funds to support his efforts in court. We would urge all members, active and retired, to contribute what they can to this critical undertaking. We are all in this together.

OT Illinois Economy - Media Propaganda again.

Did you hear back in 2010 Gov. Quinn and Sparklefarts touting how US and Illinois exports are going to double by 2014?

Well good luck with that plan and buckle-up Illinois.

From Crain's business...

Another worry: Illinois exports are stalling

Overall, exports of Illinois manufactured goods, which accounted for 80 percent of the state's $68.03 billion in foreign sales last year, rose 7.5 percent, while exports of non-manufactured commodities, mostly corn and soybeans, sagged 7.2 percent. Many types of manufactured goods still are increasing by rates of 20 percent or more, including some of the state's biggest exports such as earth-moving equipment made by Peoria-based Caterpillar Inc. and tractors and combines from Moline-based Deere Inc.

They try to paint us a ray of hope talking about Caterpillar.

Haha.. yeah, Caterpillar Inc. is doing so well...still increasing by 20% OR MORE??

Try Google-ing Caterpillar layoffs that go back to 2012 and continue today with tens of thousands of workers being cut.

Caterpillar announces more layoffs at Decatur plant

WAND-May 3, 2013

However, the declining mining economy forced CAT into cutting nearly 500 jobs just last month, now they will layoff 300 more in the next 60 ...

Remember this is the largest exporter of manufactured goods in Illinois

Maybe the cuts have something to do with the exchange rates on the Japanese Yen eh?

Last Oct, just seven months ago it took 77 Yen to buy one US dollar. Guess what?

As of last night is takes 101 Yen to buy a US dollar.

That's about a 32% increase in the price of Illinois goods and services over the last seven months. Japan is the worlds third largest economy.

We also wonder what's is going on with that so-called five-fold increase in exported Illinois coal that Quinn was boasting about? Think Japan can buy as much at a 32% higher price?

Goodbye Illinois Jobs -- Hello Layoffs.

5/10/2013 12:56:00 AM

I have to agree with the decision to release and then re-arrest her. Anyone that has ever sat in the chair as a Watch Commander knows that the only thing worse than a prisoner guard is a prisoner guard in the psych ward. The hospital wants the officers to disarm which is always a fight and you are locked in a ward where, if a fight breaks out with the prisoner, will take responding officers forever to find and assist you. Not to mention that they always want the officers to "step out" when the Psychiatrist wants to talk to them.
Believe me...it's a hassle. Release them (her) without charging and make sure the hospital calls you as she's being released so you can re-arrest her.
I've done it for PCS arrests where they go psycho. Release them WO charging "pending analysis" of the drugs. A little different then the UUW arrest but it can be done and its okay to do it.

Everyone get over it...nobody who reached a top spot in this department in the last 40 years was a genius or could be considered a legend in policing. Sure there are a hundred blue shirts out there who could fill the top positions in this department that aren't good test takers or don't have any clout that would do a better job.

There are a few 9161 police officers with advanced degrees from reputable schools. These degrees require some amount of intelligence. (Intelligence tests are required for admission into these programs.) Additionally, there are officers enrolled in very high ranking educational programs. So, not everyone is a dumb alcoholic.

I agree. There are a few very good policemen that are bad test takers with no clout. But for the most part, career P.O.'s will always just be patrolmen because they are too lazy to get the college credit, disgruntled, don't want the responsibility, or just flat out unintelligent. Im pretty sure that I'm a combination of all 4 of those categories. That why I'm a blue shirt 4 life. There, I said it. We all know its true.

I'll take the answers of guys actually working in the field over pencil pushing politicians (that's what our brass is) that have never been the police any day of the week. Let me clue you in on something else too. Although we have many very intelligent officers on our department, there are no geniuses from top to bottom. Geniuses don't become police officers, fireman, garbage men, etc. We are all blue collar working stiffs. That being said, this department could definitely be run better by some of our blue shirts, detectives, and sergeants than it is by these moronic political clout hacks that wouldn't be qualified to shine my shoes or get my fries. They are only in the position they're in because they are connected to a high ranking politician that used a favor to put them there. Hence, the pile of shit this department has become.

From the FOP web site:

We are all in this together

Hey box of rocks. This was posted three days ago!

You don't seem to have paid much attention these past 25 years. That's when Krislov , and NO ONE ELSE, picked up the case for retiree health care and has fought the fight these past 25 years.

All at NO COST to anyone except the City of Chicago. This is the first time they have asked for any money from anyone.

Typical inhabitant of a martini bar, "where is FOP, duh, where is FOP, how come we gotta pay? What the fuk, when will I be made? Oh, I'm retired. Where is FOP."

Don't bother learning the issues of the case now, they are much too complex for you to grasp. Go back to your stool and order another martini.

Tip, get your cat food on sale at Costco. Great prices and with some mayonaise and a small can of peas and carrots can pass for tuna salad.

Hey, I have my South American General's uniform and get it out every Halloween. Then I pretend I am a high ranking police official in Chicago. And I strut around singing "If I Were the King of the Forest!" from the Wizard of Oz.

Being promoted to a position of authority on a thoroughly rigged department in a completely corrupt and "a purely medieval political city, one of chieftains and tribes" (thanks J. Kass) long ago shrunk into a level of insignificance.

Now, as long as those pension checks keep coming uninterrupted...

Weiss purge has Williams out the door. Williams turns down the Job at Merchandise Mart, but Risley takes it. Risley kicks the bucket...Williams takes the job after salary offer gets a sizable increase (remember #1)Daley = Obama = Kennedy. #2)Kennedy Family sold Merch Mart to Vornado Realty Trust. Who has controlling Interest in Vornado?? Kennedy Family so do the math).

SO?? In order to keep Williams under their(Daley Machine) control- He is told that if he wants to be the next Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department he will take the job at Streets and Sanitation.

SO?? Williams takes the job at S&S, and probably by the 10th period Rahm will give his vote of confidence to McWannabeChiefofNYPD (2 weeks later GONE! ala brizzard) Then the obligatory national search and Rahm will say look what was under my nose. Then the City Council will rubber stamp the appointment.

See Superintendent Charles Williams coming soon to a roll call near you!

As you can see Daley still runs it. Richie sent his brother to D.C. and Obama sent Rahm here.
