You'd think that things like this would capture the attention of someone....someone who'd ask the uncomfortable questions about why so many people want to leave a formerly nice place to work.

There was not even 30 spots open in the last notice for bids so almost no one will be leaving 019. Even if this rumor is true.

See, here’s how it works: Whoever the boss is, well, they got “Clout”. How do you thing they got to such a high and lofty position? On good looks and charm? Well, they got to put that person somewhere. It’s NOT going to be in a Unit. Why? Because everyone in a Unit has “Clout”, and aint gonna but up with the bullshit. Sooooo, they got to put that person somewhere. Somewhere that they can’t fuck up too much and a place that no one cares about.
I guess 019 is the new 005.

Reminiscent of the mass exodus of sergeants in 011 back in '93/'94 to escape then-Commander Nate "The Snake" Gibson.
That motherfucker was a miserable prick. The fellas in A/4 from back when things were real will recall their unmarked cars missing from right in front of the station. Nate ordered them all towed after some connected bus driver complained about squads being parked in/near the bus stop.
It was almost surreal hearing VC dicks telling the Zone they wouldn't be responding to a triple Agg Batt with 2 dead because they had no cars to get there.
I work in 019. I have worked in various assignments throughout the city so I have a lot to compare it to. There is something unique about 019. The level of insanity and incompetance is unparalleled.
Do you remember the mass bids out of 007 years ago! In 3 months there were more than 100 people bidding out. Mary Rossell ring a bell?

When C/O EV allows a a Lt.(JH) and his girlfriend sidekick (RR)to be carried 049 to ride a bike for 3 days (voluntary) on the east coast,that has no benefit to the department or the member. Are you setting precedence EV? Do we all get to sign up for charity runs,walks,rides and be carried 049? Come on, Who is riding Who?

Everyone is leaving because 019 sucks. At least in the ghetto you know what your getting. This district is way to big since the merge to many bars to many drunk jag offs. Dude is everywhere now. Not to mention the xo is a complete tool and they treat patrol like crap. Returning back to the ghetto is looking better everyday!

The cmdr is afraid to hurt anyone's feelings so he leaves MR alone to continue being an ass. and although the cmdr is a good guy, he's failing to be the leader everyone expected him to be. He's got his pets, called "resource teams" that do nothing. So the working conditions in the district suck. It doesn't matter if you're south, west or north, when working conditions in a district suck because of poor leadership, they suck. So you seek to get out quick.

Reminds me of a time I was working PHN and had to listem to Sergeant M Bynum who used to work in IAD tell us what a great person C Dub was. One of the coppers told him in front of about 15 guys to go fuck himself. So he comes after the copper with his fists raised. Lucky he was stopped by his desk guy.
Back in the 80s in 024 (when the watches rotated every period) we had an asshole Lt. who enjoyed fucking with most everyone. About forty of us typed and signed a To-From requesting to be assigned to a different watch. The DC brought us in to his office and demanded answers we told him. The next period the Lt. was dumped to another watch.
Poor, poor 019 officers.
They have it so rough.

Listen this is not about the commander or a couple of shootings. Remember 019 has some of the highest seniority officers in the dept. Yes these same officers who worked many other places that were very bad long ago and when they rose in seniority they bid out, what a concept, they bid out to a slower district after putting years in working shit districts. Not everyone of them mind you but most of them worked the ghetto someplace else. I believe the post was to illustrate that a district like 019, which is probably one of the best districts around right now when you look at the population the low crime stats the night life the restaurants and all the amenities of working a nice, yuppie district, are completely overshadowed by something. But what is the cause for all these PAR forme being submitted to leave a place like 019? Last period over 50 par forms were submitted in the 019th district. Why is this occurring in a place like 019 which should be one of the most desirable places to work? This is the question. With everything 019 has to offer why do so many want to leave? Hint: It's not the commander, it's not the yuppies, it's not the myriad of great restaurants, it's not the lakefront, it's not the festive nightlife and party feel throughout the district. What or whom could it be? This is the question. What is the answer? Well inquiring minds want to know.
I've dealt with a few bad bosses and they usually get bumped up or moved very few stay more than a couple years deal with they will be gone before you know it.

I work there. I put in one of the PAR forms. I came from 007 on a phone call (only way anyone got there in the past 2 years before you start in with the nonsense). I can tell you, without a doubt...100% the mass exodus is NOT a result of the bosses. Whether you get along with a CO, or XO, or LT or whoever, we have all had issues with bosses, and rarely does one take the draconian step of leaving a district to avoid one...especially a lakefront quiet place. There are other ways to deal with a boss you dont like, but for 1, let alone 30 people to cut off their nose to spite their face and abandon a beautiful district over a boss? Nope. Not even close.
I will tell you what it is. The POS patrolmen at that place. Now before I get censored before this makes it to print, I will say obviously it is not every PO there. In fact, it is probably a small minority...probably the same ones on this blog pointing fingers and calling names. Do you know how hard it is to work with guys who have no pride? Who do nothing on a daily basis? Who would blow off anyone for the sake of blowing them off rather than handling the job they get paid to handle? Do you now how old it gets on a daily basis to have to pick up the slack for these slugs who in roll call tell war stories "back when I was the police..." blah blah blah...YOU NEVER WERE THE POLICE YOU LAZY DO NOTHING PRICK!! It is rampant over in 019, or 023 or wherever the fuck I work. It is old hearing over the radio "headin to lunch" "squad give me travel time to lunch" "hold me in 019 on reports" "hold me getting gas...for 2 hours!!!" it goes on and on and on...they cry about the Sgts, the Lts, the XO, even the CO...and at the end of the day...the worst part is the lazy whiney cry baby do nothing clowns that give us all a bad day. The final straw was when I heard a copper 19-paul a POs mom calling for a slim-jim and he is known to carry one...and he says "19-paul, writing some parkers then heading to lunch time due, wont get to it" Ugh!!! People can leave if they want but soon will realize the grass is not greener on the other side. We have had way worse bosses in 19 than one crazy xo. I dont inderstand what people expect. I have only worked on place better in 20 plus years. Yes we are short manpower but thats everywhere and yes one is expected to do their job and no less. I can only assume that people are leaving because they are not being taken care of. I work days and I can honestly say that our bosses make every effort to accomodate everyone with days off, time on the end and even start times. Why are people bidding out? Simple answer here and it isn't the xo, it isn't a couple of homicides, it's seniority. There are finally openings in districts like 020,016,017 etc. taking 016 out of the equation someone with 12 years on is currently enjoying working midnights and a full 2 furlo every year, and has enjoyed that since they got there. There is no new blood in the district. Currently the bottom of the district guy has 6 years. Now imagine that 6 years with no upward hopes of watch/furlo. That effects many bottom people's viewpoints. I would bet that many of those PAR's are from 12 year and under people. Probably a greater majority of them are from old 023 people who lost a lot of seniority through the merge.
Say what you will about "I'll do it in a heartbeat to leave 005 or 007" but the reality is you'll be happy for a year or two with the change of pace and then realize you'll be on midnights forever with a full 2 furlo, that is depressing...
Aren't places like 016, 019, 012 and 022 where you aspired to go after you did your 15 to 20 years in the ghetto?

Are you kidding me The LTs girlfriend works 5 hour days and if she even comes in on sat she works 2. But the same LT screams when you come in 5 min early. Most of us here have worked in other districts we are not complaining about working just the fact that our xo will shit on you for nothing while his 5 friends are hiding away on foot posts. 8 POs in the caps office, bullshit 2 man
cars on days but stay an extra 5 mins on lunch or take it at the wrong time and the sky is falling.

cant keep up with this there are no rapids on all 3 watches and on the weekends we have an average 3 beat cars down per watch. What a hell of a good commander we have and his super xo. a 5yr old could run this district better.

He is carried code 049 more than the whole district combined and for the fake blonde girlfriend she has been inside her whole career which is about 10 min. We need a commander with balls John Kenny kept that xo on a tight leash and this shit didnt happen. This whole consolidating districts and eliminating some 1200 Police positions from the city budget is all a smoke screen to hide the manpower shortage...
Simply put... All of the 25 former districts are down 200+ Officers compared to Y2K...
So, in the areas that was formerly comprised the 019th & 23rd Districts, along with 002 & 021 and 012 & 013, an entire district compliment of officers (400+) has disappeared from each area.
75% of a single district compliment is tasked with Policing the geographic area of TWO DISTRICTS!
Hell... Every district is down 200+ officers in manpower but Rahm has his minions all over that when someone dares to mention it.
Every "official source" of CPD numbers IS BULLSHIT!
Everybody who paid attention over the years, is looking around and scratching their heads trying to figure out where did all the help we once had disappear to...

To post 5:37and others, it's not the PO's that's wrong with 019 it's the management. Let's see the more of a do nothing you are the more you get taken care of. I've seen guys on 3rd watch for yrs that are good decent people who do their jobs and back up their fellow officers, but not even get so much as a steady car. Yet when you get an officer dumped from 2nd watch who has NEVER and I mean NEVER done any kind of police work in his career, after 4 periods on 3rd watch get a new foot post , and no one, no one else on 3rd watch was even asked if they would be interested this breaks down the desire and will to do anything. Just look at who is on the quality of life cars. Fine you want to put up these cars that's great but how bout giving them to officers who know what the he'll they are doing. But no they are give to "friends of the Lt" or " friends of the XO", without any expectation of bringing in anything. You had a traffic guy who would take all the accidents he could handle along with writing all the movers he
could and he gets bounced aroung like a pinging ball but these do. othngs, never been a worker, never been the police, get taken care of. Now top that off with a sociopath as an XO and collective morale that is in the toilet and it is not difficult to see why there are so many par forms submitted to exit the confines of 019. Like anyone who has got time on, who's done police work, ultimately you can handle the gangbangers, the shitheads, the bad guys, all the shit that the street has to offer but the real problem for us PO's is dealing with incompetent, ignorant, delusional, piss poor supervisors, and a department that is broken. Like the saying goes, I can deal with the street I just can't deal with the department and it's bosses.

I'm not the poster of either of above have worked in 3 different districts and always a beat car on all watches and have 20+ and I'm not going anywhere but to get respect you need to give it and our psycho xo is the most miserable hated psychotic person I know. He shits on everyone even the workers, he has a handful of friends that are taken care of and that is it. Anybody that sticks up for him is in that handful. When he leaves then I will give the company something and I'm not leaving.His life is a disaster and is taken out on everyone else. I wonder if he is ever called down for random drug because he is a total drunk and that is his problem.

that may be why YOU are leaving but the reason that most of us put in PAR forms is because of mr. PERIOD. you can't dispute that. just look at all the posting regarding that asshole. I worked in 019 for MR, if you worked he left you alone, the problem is most there have no desire to do even the minimum, just listen on days as people find excuses to dodge easy jobs all day long; it's pathetic and embarrassing. Don't blame the bosses, they don't sit in the car with you, you still make your own day. Bosses come and go, excuses are forever.

MR will fuck with atone and everyone. Like the post above, the only ones defending are his do nothing dollies and a coup,e guys that have to drink with him and and agree with whatever he happens to be pontificating about. Also they are the ones that get taken care of while the other workers are shit upon. This gutsy fucks with the tact team, the mission team, with sgts and Lt's. One thing you can say about MR is that he will shit on anyone and everyone because he can, like a bully.
017 will never forgive you for sending us capt DD--- thankfully she retired--- as treacherous as they come she managed to blow up the 3rd watch and chase a lot of good coppers out of the district--- I worked for a lot of bosses over the years and she was the worst of them all--- her suckass squad really misses her....
If any of you "supporters" think ryan only fux with non workers, just ask the girl who directly worked for ryan and was a good friend to him after his tragedy. Her and her husband supported ryans family and was there for him. Then, hah he screwed her over when he went to midnights and she wouldn't follow due to her family situation. So when you make BS comments abouts who he fux with, YOU are the one that don't know the man. He will hurt anyone. Just wait and see.
The only ones complaining are the districts that are getting the dogs that bid out.. It has been addition through subtraction. No quality officers are leaving.
The worker's get rewarded, the do-nothings complain because they get nothing, and now they want to leave.

You can say what you want to believe, but fact is, numbers and handling jobs correctly speaks volumes. These people wouldn't be leaving if management was good. People are leaving because of one thing "POOR LEADERSHIP". It starts with E/V, you either reward or do nothing to people who do ZERO. Go look at your CAPS office for one example, you increase your man power over there, for people who do nothing but shop all day on online, plan their next cruise, or what bar that they are having their next party at. You stick it to officers on all watches,tact teams,mission teams that bring in activity, instead of the ones that don't do SHIT!!! Reward the workers, not the do nothing's. Be a leader E/V, manage your district better and people will stay.
