Perception Is Not Reality

  • Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy reiterated Monday that his department has safety and security under control in the North Michigan Avenue area.

McCarthy spoke to reporters at his weekly news conference held to showcase the amount of illegal guns seized in the city.

  • McCarthy says its being blown out of proportion by the media, creating a perception that there's a problem.

"So far to date, there's been no major incidents, but what's getting reported is mayhem, and it's patently false," McCarthy says, claiming there's been no robberies, thefts or property damage.

No robberies? No thefts?

Bartender? We'll have two of what he's having.

"McCarthy spoke to reporters at his weekly news conference held to showcase the amount of illegal guns seized in the city."

So if perception is indeed, not reality, how many of those illegal guns came from FOID holders (future CCW licensees)?

Since the answer to that question is likely zero, there's no reason for legislators not to approve a decent CCW law, similar to that of Indiana or Florida.

Don't piss on our head and tell us that it's raining!

Here's something else to ponder. Tell me we are not headed down the exact same path.

(youtube) Who Took Down Stocken

As they borrowed and borrowed to "revitalize" downtown with new sports stadiums and new waterfront improvements. They borrowed more.

Borrowed until they went bankrupt. As the bankers made out like bandits.

BTW, Any Chicago politicians have any ties with the bankers? Think about it.

As they went bankrupt the homicide rate soared.. yep we're headed down that same path. They cut basic services, cut wages and then they came for the healtcare and pensions.

Check out the clip. I think that you'll find it informative.

Oh, people getting shot in the head is not a major incident.

This exemplifies how bad things are. The city leaders have become desensitize and the shootings are considered normal behavior and are therefore acceptable.

Fricken idiots.

Well no more Pendaltons got shot so I guess the city is safe now...right? No one else matters.

Wow, how does the media not just let this dumb ass have it big time?

I stood there for hours up and down that nonsense this past weekend telling countless citizens and tourists what I had to tell them when dozens asked the obvious questions:
"Officer, what's going on?" -

Well, brace yourself, ma'am, I have some harsh realities to relay, but mostly, you can just believe your own eyes.

"Officer, are we in any danger out here today?"

- Well, sir, I think the possibilities are certainly higher than most nice days in some other city where THIS TYPE OF THING IS NOT HAPPENING, wouldn't you say?

"Do you guys really have this under control, there sure are an awful lot of mobs everywhere we go and we don't see enough of you guys..."

-Well, sir, I can tell you what you wanna hear, or I can tell you the truth.

Type: Resolution
Title: Call for United States Congress and Illinois Assembly to
pass an assault weapons ban to protect communities
Committee(s) Assignment:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Assault weapons are a class of military-style semi-automatic firearms,
designed and manufactured for the sole purpose of killing many people quickly, and are the
weapon of choice for criminals, enabling them to commit some of our Nation's deadliest crimes;
and
WHEREAS, Tragically, there has been a recent series of shooting rampages in which
innocent bystanders, attendees at movie theaters, gatherers at political events, school children,
and others have been killed by individuals wielding and firing semi-automatic weapons,
including at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and the Century
Movie Theater in Aurora, Colorado; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, the United States Congress, recognizing the threat to public safety
posed by the continued availability of assault weapons, enacted the Federal Assault Weapon
Ban, which banned certain models of assault weapons, as well as high capacity magazines.
During the first nine years of the federal ban, the use of assault weapons in crimes dropped by
66% and the number of murders caused by firearms dropped by 7%. Unfortunately, the
legislation contained a sunset provision, with the ban expiring in 2004, and attempts to reenact
the federal ban have failed; and
WHEREAS, In the absence of legislation from the federal government, seven states,
including California, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, Hawaii and Maryland,
attempted to stem the violence by enacting laws banning assault weapons. In addition, the
District of Columbia and five large urban cities, including the City of Chicago, have enacted
local laws banning such weapons; and
WHEREAS, Despite numerous attempts, the State of Illinois has never been able to
muster the political will to enact an assault weapons ban, and a recent attempt in the lame-duck
session ofthe General Assembly again failed to enact such a ban; and
WHEREAS, Even the United States Supreme Court has held that the Second
Amendment's right to bear arms is subject to reasonable restrictions, including a prohibition on
carrying "dangerous and unusual weapons"; and
WHEREAS, The effective regulation of assault weapons and high capacity magazines
requires comprehensive legislation and action on the part of the federal, state and local
government in order to protect our communities and prevent the further loss of innocent lives;
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of
Chicago, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby urge the United States
Congress and the liiinois General Assembly to pass an assault weapons ban in order to protect
our communities; and

Why aren't the people outraged ? Because the city
is controled by the mayor, the aldermen, the moneyed interests, and the dope peddlers, and the people can't do a f*cken thing about it. The first line of defense, the Police Dept. is being hamstrung by the mayor and his superintendent when it comes to fighting crime.
Make an arrest or shoot and kill or wound an offender
and the states attorney or a
judge dismisses the charge
or pleads the charge down and the arresting officer is
left open for a lawsuit by the criminal or his survivors and the city leaves him on his own to battle the suit and possibly ruin his career and future. And the no-snitch rule in certain parts
of the city also contributes
to this garbage. The denizens have been taught that any law enforcement persons are their enemy so they suffer their losses in
silence. Despite his faults,
the late Richard J. Daley
backed his Police Department
and provided what they needed to police the city.
This knucklehead mayor we have now is a p*ss-poor excuse for chief executive.

So the bottom line is that in English McCompstat is really saying: 'Who you gonna believe, me, or your lying eyes?' (rotfl)

And not that it matters(/s) but according to the dictionary 'Mayhem' is defined thusly: Law -- 'the crime of willfully inflicting a bodily injury on another so as to make the victim less capable of self-defense or, under modern statutes, so as to cripple or mutilate the victim.'

Okey-dokey then GMAC. So Crippling and Mutilating people, and attacking the defenseless (disabled, seniors, etc) is just fine with you and all that Mayhem stuff is nothing to be concerned about. And in any case -- It's The Media's Fault!.. right? (deyze must beeze ateechin sum funny Law in NY & NJ)

And no major incidents? Tell that to the doctor who got mugged last year east of Mich Ave, or the doctor who got attacked in a restroom of a restaurant on Mich Ave. What are you going to say, those don't count because they didn't happen ON, as opposed to NEAR, Mich Ave?

Go fuck yourself Garry. You are nothing but a complete puppet for the Rahmulus. Maybe if you're real nice to Mayor Murder, he'll give you your balls back.

Can you imagine if this trend continues? Honestly, it will be the end of our great city. If Michigan Ave. and downtown goes down then the city will go down.

This trend of shitheads and ghetto people hanging out in downtown and other trendy parts of Chicago didn't just happen overnight. This slowly started happening about six years ago and each year it has gone a little worse.

The mayor and the politicians are caught between a rock and a hard place. If they react too aggressively then the black community won't support them. If if they react too lightly then the city goes to shit. They have taken the "let the city go to shit route".

I work downtown and have been there for all of these "wildings."

Garry is right. The media is blowing this bullshit way out of proportion. This is the lead story on the news because some teen jagoffs run into the street? Please. The media is just making the problem worse by encouraging these losers.

This is not a big problem and the fact that posters keep making more out of it than they should shows the sad state of this department.

There is just way too much fear on this job today, especially in the police who work downtown. Fear of getting in trouble, fear of shitheads, fear of putting hands on people.

Every time this story gets played up it tells the public one thing. The CPD officers are not up to the job. I find it odd that so many officers like the publicity. It's like they enjoy telling people they are incapable of doing their job.

Get one thing straight. The media is not commenting on the shitheads. The media is commenting on you. The media is telling the public that Chicago Police are punks and everyone on this job eats it up. Odd.

Just like Rahm lied to that genuflecting C-BS reporter on 48 Hours who had the audacity to ask Rahm an unscripted question, McCarthy lies.

It's all they got left in their diddy bag of tricks for useful idiots.

With the catastrophy that Rahm is, with Fubarak & his trifecta squared ineptitudes: Scare Force One, ObaminationCare, GM Bondholders screwing, MFGlobal, Fast & Furious, Solyndra, Benghazi, AP wire tapping, IRS intimidation, Fox News reporter Rosen's emails being read by the G, America is in a fork in the road.

Noting happens for the first time. A lot of this fuckery has occurred under both political parties. The difference this cycle, with this crew, is it is so much; and so in your face, blatant & condensed in such a short period of time, its stupefying.

Are we as a people so "pussified", so doltish, so diluted in assimilation as Americans, so devoid of critical thinking that we are going to allow these douchebags to destroy the foundation our forefathers built and died to preserve?

Ultimately, Chicago & America will get the government it deserves.

What that government will be will be determined in the next few years.

It looks grim with the potential mass amnesty of illegal immigrants and two to three generations of kids fed "Progressive" bullshit in failing schools.

But in flyover country, it's still a different story & they can grow their own food and they cling to their U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, G-d and Guns.

The Chicago tribal concil should follow shortly.

Can we steal the bankers money and call it Banking Reform. Or steal from the corporations and call it corporate reform?

How about we confiscate Rahm's and the city coucils money including their campagain contribution accounts and call it a reform too and tell them it's because it's necessary.

No casino until we get our hands on those pensions and reform them OF COURSE!!!

Because if you get the casino first the pensions may just demand contributions for skipped pension payments.

We couldn't possibly let that happen, no. That money is for the clouted ones and their friends to do as they please.

What boxes are the mayors CeaseFire people operating in and how many contact cards did they write?

Have the mayors million dollar CeaseFire crew interuppeted any public urination -- we're just wondering -- what are the taxpayers getting for that million bucks.

Oh, he better pray for NO "major" incident. No robberies he claims, but knocking people off their bikes last summer was ok? Harassing people on the street is ok? Insulting.

Let me guess, you hung your star out the window on the traffic stop expecting the guy to just turn off his lights and drive away? Then when he didn't, you acted like a condescending asshole, because nobody on CPD should EVER get pulled over, or EVER get a ticket? Is that why you guys blatantly disregard stoplights and speed through suburbs thinking that you're above traffic law?

I personally do not ticket fellow cops. But I am seeing an extremely disturbing trend where CPD will drive like absolute fucktards through our area, then hang a star out the window, which is probably the dumbest thing you can do. It makes me want to write a ticket, even though I won't.

By the way, if and when I ask for your police ID, I'm not being a jag. I'm trying to make sure some idiot didn't steal your star out of a gym bag, and is trying to use it to play police and get out of tickets (119th and Kedzie anyone?). So cut the attitude. We may not have wildings or as many homicides here as you, but we still are out there walking the line, and don't need the "I'm better than you because I'm CPD" bullshit.

Think of the similarities between NYC and Chicago as follows:

Brooklyn = South Side
The Bronx = West Side
Fifth Ave (MTN) = "The Magnificent Mile" (N. Michigan Ave.)
Upper East Side (19th Pct.) = Near North Side (18th Dist.)

The roving bands/flash mobs of feral black youth from the crime-ridden South and West Sides come down to N. Michigan Ave. and the Near North Side and wreck havoc.

Whats also interesting is that the FOP gave the law firm handling the case $50,000 after the law firm sent letters to retirees requesting donations to pay for the legal work
Am curious if the CFD union made a donation to the law firm or if any of the other 3 city unions have put money in If the FOP, CFD union and 3 others each give $50,000 that a quarter of a million dollars to fight Rahms proposal. or as usual letting the CPD and FOP take the lead and pay the expenses, while they sit back and ride in on our backs.

Bullshit. If you're there you'd either make an arrest cuz you're so astute and unafraid, or you're as goose-eyed and pigeon-toed as your conman superintendent.

It wasn't 40-50, it was at least ten groups of 40-50, running around breaking shit, fighting with each other, shoving bystanders, stopping traffic, clogging the train stations, and making decent people have to clear a path for their ridiculous stampeding from franklin to the lake and the river to division, unabated, and exempt from arrest because of their age and skin color.
If that's not a problem, if that's just the way it is now downtown or anywhere else, you can have it. This city and this nation is big time -ostrich head in the sand- done for.

To my ignorant coworkers; we are not above the law or better than any other law enforcement officer because we are the Chicago police.while off duty be respectful to your fellow law enforcement officers nationwide but more importantly be respectful to the citizens. When you are off duty, you are suppose to blend in with your surroundings, not drive like a jag because you are the police. When pulled over for a minor traffic infraction, hand the officer your police I'd with your license and insurance card and apologize. Why apologize? Because you know that every time you pull over a car, your stress level raises. It raise because you are worried about being shot and killed. No traffic stop is routine.

Sick of lies? Damn, how are you going to last 29 years?

I was lied to beginning the very first day in the academy. People lied to me when they didn't have to, they are just so accustomed to it I guess. I got pretty damn good at detecting lies. Mostly it wasn't too hard. After about 10 years it was easy. After 20 years I just wanted to tell people, hey, come on, you can do better than that. I would tell someone they are lying and they asked me how I knew. Jesus, the shithead on the street is typically a better liar that these people I work with and for. Sometimes I had to stop and think about how I knew, to see if there was asomething I could explain that gave them up. Frequently there wasn't, just a feeling, a sense, a tingle or a twitch and bam, I knew.

if you weren't there you don't know how either cop acted on that traffic stop. I was pulled over in Wisconsin for supposedly not yielding a lane fast enough on the 94 for a stopped police vehicle as I passed one of their speed traps. I opened all my windows, and turned on all my lights before he walked up to my car so he could see everything and everyone inside. I had my license, insurance and button waiting in hand.

This Racine county deputy sheriff called his spot "border patrol." Said he was sick and tired of "you Chicago guys coming up here driving 90 miles an hour like the law don't apply to you."

I asked him if he could try to consider that I wasn't speeding, he wasn't stopping me for speeding, and I should at least not be issued a ticket for what "all the other Chicago guys" supposedly do...

He accused me of trying to elude him because I had pulled over so quickly, which he felt was done to make him have to pass me up (not kidding).

The guy wrote me for not yielding a lane to a police (emergency)vehicle on a stop.

He had issues, because he went on and on about how much 'real police work' they have to do up there and how we're not the only ones having to deal with shit (that's a pattern and a self-conscious feeling of inadequacy I notice when you tell people you're Chicago).
Again, I pointed out I was on his side.
He didn't show up for court, but the racket they run up there is you either pay the fine or come back after spending hours waiting to see their court officer, who reminds you that when you have to come back, it'll be another long wait. Then he tells me the deputy added in his remarks that I was an odpo from Chicago so the judge "won't be happy" if I request a hearing and "their judge" sees two cops contradicting each other (meaning his guy has more credibility).

Bottom line, for 15 years, I've never written a copper. Rude or not, I was taught to give the courtesy, deserved or not, if it's just lousy traffic. I'm not scolding and lecturing another one of my brothers on a damn traffic stop, or writing him a ticket, he knows better and so do I- or at least we should know better.

I'm not scolding and lecturing another one of my brothers on a damn traffic stop, or writing him a ticket, he knows better and so do I- or at least we should know better

Well said, bite the bullet, give the courtesy and move on. Its only a ticket

I meant don't write coppers, but... Oh, well, some guys wanna write cops and if we're that cop getting written we just have to accept that some cops go home, tell their families what a tough job they have, what with having to pull over cops who drove too fast, made lane changes without signalling, didn't wear seat belts, or committed some heinous act or transgression in violation of laws written for cops to use in order to have probable cause to pull jagoffs over and legally pursue BIGGER CRIMES THAN TRAFFIC, LOSER !

I worked with a ppo once who went immediately out of roll call to a stop sign in a busy district... I chose to be passenger to prove a point that she should be able to start using her police discretion to pick and choose what was important enough for her to decide as driver what we'd be doing that night...and to prove I didn't mind doing paper as senior man in vehicle.

I asked her what the fuck she was doing at monroe and pulaski on a silly stop sign, to which she confidently replied, "I'm getting my traffic out of the way..."

I couldn't hold back. "you want to stop someone for traffic, we're on midnights on the godamn westside, you stop whoever the fuck you want, and if all you have is traffic, maybe you write them for traffic, or maybe you find something you should be looking for in the first place."

Traffic don't mean shit!
