What Could Go Wrong?

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing lawmakers to pass a gambling bill that would allow the city to weigh its choice of a casino operator in secret and forbid state regulators from taking away its license.
The legislation also would grant the mayor authority to seize land for a casino and keep not only the gambling profits but also two local taxes and a cut of an upfront fee paid for the right to run the gambling emporium.

It's a mix of power and privileges that gambling experts say has never been bestowed upon any city or casino owner in the country. They also say the measure raises concerns about whether the state would have ample oversight of the nation's first city-owned casino.
A bat-shit crazy insane idea if ever there was one. How about proposing a counter law that all casino revenues first go to pay off outstanding city debt, including pension liabilities, prior to a single dime going to the "schools." Because part of the problem decades ago with the lottery money was that while lottery proceeds went to the schools, the General Assembly then removed the matching amount from the State school budget and spent it on nonsense.

According to Rahm, the casino will be owned by the City of Chicago and the people of Chicago. So than just like the casinos on American Indiana land, will I share in the revenue for the casino? There are no cities, or states that own casinos in this county, but I am sure Chicago can make all legit. Everything thing else we have done in Chicago has worked out fine for the last 100 years. Move along people nothing to see here.

That's how Rahm operates. Ask for the outrageous, make "concessions" and settle for the unheard of.
I agree the unions need to start a full court press demanding that a portion goes to fix the pension shortage that they created. When there is outstanding debt, they shouldn't be talking about where they are going to spend the "profit" It's not profil until the debt is paid off.
That's west side thinking. I have all my credit cards maxed out, my car is on the repo list and my house is in foreclosure but as soon as they get that tax money it's time for hair extensions and new Nike Air Jordan's.

This clinches it. Rahm Emanuel is certifiably insane! As such, in the interests of Public Safety he should be Institutionalized as soon as is legally possible.

Seriously, compared to this bat-shit crazy idea of Tiny Dancer it would actually make more sense to let The Outfit build and own any Casinos in Chicago. Then let the Wiseguys run them too as they at least have a lot of experience at that. Plus they know how to turn a profit from Casinos and gambling so even allowing for any skim, at the end of the day there'd still be Tax Dollars coming in to pay off Debts and Pensions. Not to mention that the Goodfellas have Honor.

And Honor is something that nobody can say any Politician from-in Chicago, Crook County, or Illinois has or ever had. From the time they could talk they were criminals, they just committed different types of crimes and in a different manner than the 'Gangsters'.

Thanks SCC! I hadn't seen this.

That's f'n genius! Blago on his best day could never in a million years come up with something so preposterous! Daley probably could but he wouldn't be able to keep a straight face or stop laughing long enough to pull it off. He'd be Elmer Fudd'n it for 30 minutes easy. Maybe in his new role he's lending a hand.
Think of all the graft and corruption! The mind reels!
Mr. Mayor, you learned well the lessons of the original Mayor Daley. You'll be a billionaire when you leave office.
And, where is the "opposition party"? This is a free option for them. In a one-party state like Illinois they can't stop it but they can at least extract something for themselves. Or, have they already been 'consulted' into submission.
What a state...

I am all for a casino in the City. I know the politicians will make every effort to corrupt the entire process and abuse the potential at every chance, but the revenue benefits, if maintained and marketed well, will far exceed the pitfalls. In order to guarantee its success, AND to prevent political and criminal corruption and abuse there should be a civilian oversight board hired to monitor and govern the entire operation. Yes, the politicians WILL attempt to stack the board with those who will benefit their agenda, but to prevent that the board should only be staffed by business owners(without City/State/Federal tax incentive benefit), physicians(advanced medical), law enforcement and fire professionals (for obvious safety decisions), and a few other professionals knowledgeable in the necessary fields for operational decisions but without political ties. A nine member board would ensure integrity and operational satisfaction, and would aide in defeating any political influence attempting to slither its way into the operation.
The revenue windfall could be significant and help to pay down the City's overwhelming debt, (Yes, including our pension and limiting the devastation of the pending healthcare crisis), and reduce the need for property tax increases to fund the politicians spending sprees. .. A dealer, hospitality or teller job would be a good one for the wife too!

SAFE PATHWAYS?

No, no-no, not safe pathways for "the children" who's Chicago schools are being closed down and are now forced to cross gang boundries.

I'm talking about safe pathways to bring illegal immigrants to Illinois to prop-up our declining population rates and the economy.

Danmn You Ariz....

PHOENIX (AP) — Maricopa County sheriff's deputies have made another round of arrests as part of an effort to crackdown on human smuggling.

Deputies say 10 Mexican nationals were arrested after the van they were traveling in was stopped Thursday north of the Valley. About two hours later, five more people were arrested during a separate traffic stop.

On Friday, seven people from Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala and Honduras were arrested.

Deputies say the people paid between $2,500 and $13,000 to be smuggled into the country. They were headed to various states, including Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Delaware and Kansas.

Some were booked into Maricopa County's 4th Avenue jail. Others were turned over to federal authorities.

The sheriff's office says it has arrested 78 people on human smuggling charges in the last several weeks.

Chicago needs those illegal immigrants.

They will create anchor babies and increase the population so we can gain-back seats in congress and win more federal monies based on our population.

This is hurting our economy! 78 people in the last few weeks alone!

The media calls them people but are they not just seen as targets by the political appartus here? They are intentially kept in a state of immigration pergatory to be exploited and used.

I mean if these 78 people get caught up in the Chicago drug trade (because there are no other jobs for them) that is likely 78 more people either shot at or getting shot -- and let's face it that represents a windfall of money under OBamaCare to treat the shooting victims!

Billlions of dollars at risk. Doctor money, hospitals, nurses, ER and first responder money. How the hell is the city going to be able to publish GDP growth reports when our supply of crime casualities is being disrupted.

The City NEEDS this illegal activity to justify the legal spending and redistribution of money into the healthcare business, the pharma business, build the political kingdoms etc..

How dare Ariz mess with the free markets and free trade of illegals!

Get McSafePassage right on it will ya -- to end this blockaid - bust this embargo. Those are OUR ILLEGALS!! give em to us now!. Chicago needs to create a safe pathways program.

Oh wait. Some of them were turned over to the Feds so those are probably the ones coming to Illinois , right? No worries than.

Chicago Ideas Week.

First Chicago loses the so-called high tech CEO from Groupon (which partnered with Rahm to entice college entrepenures to set up shop in Chicago) lost to San Fransisco as he himself leaves the city to create his next startup in Cal., not here.

Now it's the Chairman of "Choose Chicago" that is fleeing.

In his place is Rahm's new appointee Desiree Rogers, the ex White House Social Secr. that has fallen from grace.

One failure after another after another.

These are the kinds of jobs that Rahm creates. Even at the highest level they only last a year or two.

They are not careers. They are part-time temporary positions.

In a few short weeks we will have another 1.8 million 4 year college graduates in the job market. Where are they going to go? If it's like last year about 60% of them will go back home to live in their mama's basement as the media likes to ridicule them as though they are lazy or have too high expectations.

Choose Chicago my azz.

Why do you keep asking for more money for pensions??? There shouldn't be ANY government pensions - everyone in the government should be on Social Security. Then, just maybe, the whole SS underfunded mess would get straightened out. As long as the people working FOR the taxpayers get to have a separate set of benefits, they will screw us (the taxpayer, i.e., your employer). Any person on any board in this city or anywhere looks out for their interests or can be bought and are bought or trade favors that are not in the interest if the people. It's a me first world and until PEOPLE watch and actively participate in government like the constitution allows, we will keep getting screwed. Period. There are no legit people out here that COULD get onto such a board, the system has things locked down to ensure the perpetual security of corrupt people, official and civilian.
