CPS Bait and Switch

Typical Rahm ploy:
  1. Go out and threaten to do something bad.
  2. Let everyone get riled up.
  3. Back off slightly and let people think they won.
  4. Laugh
  5. Bask in the glory of the "great compromiser"
Rahm did this with city stickers, proposing an increase in fees for vehicles over a certain weight. When it was discovered that all the soccer moms with minivans would be hammered with massive sticker fee increases, there was much hue and cry.

So Rahm "compromised." All city stickers went up by $10 bucks across the board. Rahm got his influx of money pretending to be reasonable to the minivan owners, when the $10 increase was what he wanted all along. He just pretended to overreach, then backed off to what he figured he needed in the first place. And the low-information sheeple (and media) sang hymns in praise of having a reasonable mayor who was responsive to the needs of the citizens.

But it was all bullshit. And here comes more bullshit:
  • At least a few of the 53 Chicago Public Schools targeted for closing could be dropped from the list before Wednesday’s final school board vote, under pressure from black aldermen to follow hearing officers’ recommendations, City Hall sources said Friday.

The chairman of the City Council’s Black Caucus has demanded that Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his handpicked school board follow retired judges’ recommendations to keep open 13 of the 53 schools.

To do otherwise, Ald. Howard Brookins (21st) claimed, would be to “render the whole proceeding a joke” when Emanuel is the one who set it up.

No Howard, the joke is on you. Rahm is still going to close 40 schools. We aren't saying that Rahm is wrong closing 40 schools, but Howard Brookins is wrong think that Rahm isn't getting exactly what he wants. Howard is playing to his constituents by "fighting" Rahm and "winning." But we're pretty sure Rahm is letting Howard "win" while Rahm walks away with 75% of his proposed closings taking place as planned.

75% versus 25% - it's not hard to see who won.

Its called posturing. Citizens keep believing. No Leaders here. Just let officials drag us around and mentally rule us.

Does, can, will anyone ever tell this mayor "No." I know this city and the politicians are more than corrupt, but there has got to be someone, anyone who can just tell him, "No, you cannot do whatever the hell you want to." Please, anyone, before he screws this city and its residents worse than Daley.

If the black caucus and their ghetto constiuants didn't destroy their own neighborhoods many once peaceful areas like Englewood and Garfield Park would still have a taxpaying base to pay for the schools.

More and more Rahm is looking like that Ron Johnson - the whiz from APPLE that took over JC Penneys, where he listened to no one, everything had to be changed/updated immediately, and he ran it into the ground.

He did the same thing with closing the libraries. And then people thought they 'won' when he compromised.

It's called the art of negotiation. If you're selling at a flea market, you mark your stuff higher than you plan to sell it for. You let the buyer make his offers, then you 'settle' for the price you always intended to sell the item for, anyway.

But, if you play it right, and smile a lot, and touch the buyer on the arm a little, they buyer thinks they really got a great deal.

They need to close a lot more than 53. CPS is a disaster. Why not give parents vouchers to send their kids to the schools of their choice. The good schools will grow and the bad schools will close. Let the parents decide.

How about we pay potential unfit parents not to have kids they have no skills or interest in raising with vouchers. That will also increase the number of "good" schools and solve a whole bunch of problems.

A large part of our taxes go toward the Chicago Public School system.

Year after year reports of poor education for our children emerge as the schools post the failures of the year.

Soooooo, if we paid for something, say, a good meal, or paying to have your car fixed, and the meal was bad or the mechanic didn't fix it right, you would scream bloody murder because you spent your money for a service you didn't receive.

Just does not seem right. It;s like the weatherman job, you can keep that job even though day after day your wrong.

Go figure.....

As the "good schools" grow they will become ghettoized, gang infested and trashed.

Too bad there isn't a way to shrink neighborhood schools when enrollment drops instead of closing them.

Uh...no.

I don't want these ghetto bastards anywhere near my kids. Particularly not in their schools.

And I believe I speak for any other parent that elects to send their kid(s) to a private school. Not only do we not reap any benefit of the exorbitant property tax money we pay that is earmarked for CPS, but we pay thousands to send our kids to private schools for a greater assurance of safety and better caliber of facilities, teachers, etcetera. We take these measures because they're necessary for a myriad of reasons. If you're not smart enough to figure those reasons out, I hope you aren't capable of reproducing.

There's a reason - several, actually - why your logic is skewed. Think before you speak (blog), jackass.

The original number of schools to close was 100. Most of the critics are admitting that some of the schools do need to close because they are underutilizied, so what is the point in all of this?

This needs to be broken down so that the simple minded Chicago voter can understand it. You pay X dollars in taxes. Y dollars goes to a broken public school system. If you got that amount in your hand and sent your kids to schools of your choice, you would come out ahead.

Of course the ghetto savage pays nothing and doesn't care where the child goes but away, but normal people would get it.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing lawmakers to pass a gambling bill that would allow the city to weigh its choice of a casino operator in secret and forbid state regulators from taking away its license.

Dear Mr. Emmanuel,
I am sick and tired of hearing you spout your rhetoric about how 100% of any revenues from a Chicago Casino should go directly to Chicago Public Schools. In case you haven't noticed the Board of Education is just like the Deep Tunnel Project. We keep pouring money into the deep tunnel and only to watch our basements flood. Then we’re told that we need to complete another expansion for it to work effectively and still our basements flood. Similarly, we keep pouring money into the Board of Education for new programs, head start, free breakfast and lunch and busing to the tune of 50% of our property taxes and nothing changes. The Chicago public schools spent $12,193 per student in 2011 while the average cost of a student sent to a Chicago Archdiocesan school was 6387.00. If we’re spending almost twice as much per student and only getting half of the students to the state norm then we’re throwing money away. To put it another way if the United States Secretary of Education, Arnie Duncan, who your president declared to be the best and brightest, could not fix this problem while he was here then obviously there must not be a solution. Stop throwing our tax dollars in CPS deep tunnel and demand they do more with less. 100% of any Casino profits should be used to pay back the Chicago Police Pension Fund shortage that you helped foster by shrinking the size of the police force by 2500 officers and not conforming to the actuarial studies done to the Chicago Police Pension Fund by paying only the mandated minimum. As you are learning, there is strength in numbers; otherwise you would not be hiring back 400 police officers per day on their days off at 150% of their normal pay rate. Hire more police so the current police officers working your overtime initiative, who average 4 days off per month, are not burned out before summers end. Make their pension fund whole and then the kids might have a chance to make it through 12 years of school before being gunned down due to the lack of police preserving life and property. If you have a lawful society then everything else will fall into place. I just don’t understand how murder and maiming benefits the kids. After all isn’t it all about the kids? How about we start by giving them a safe environment to attend school and participate in sports. That would truly benefit the kids. When you say it's all about the kids you mean you want the citizens to believe that it’s all about the kids. The only reason you have chosen the all about the kids’ campaign is so you can enrich you Charter School Friends who can in return enrich you. You know that 50% of all property taxes collected go to the Board Of Education so that is the biggest chunk of money out there to be pilfered. If it was really about the kids you would not have let so many of them get killed since you took office by not hiring police officers.
