A couple of e-mails coming in describing CompStat yesterday. Seems a national news outlet, possibly CNN was there to tape the meeting, as a sort of rebuttal to the Saturday "48 Hours" report depicting Chicago crime as out of control. The e-mails are unanimous as describing McCarthy as "preening" and "strutting" around the room, playing to the cameras at every opportunity. None of the harsh screaming and cursing that have become commonplace, but a veritable love-fest of gentle correction, droll humor and posterior smooching.

How short handed are we? A guy got robbed at the Belmont CTA around 4a. All of the cars were doing paper, so 1999 told him to walk to the station if he wanted help.

I have used COMPSTAT metrics in a non-government agency. COMPSTAT is complete and utter hell. That statement is coming to you from a workaholic. Never have I ever felt so severely stressed along with my equally overworked co-workers.
My background includes management and in my opinion, COMPSTAT is utilized when an entity does not have the appropriate number of employees to produce desired results that are needed.
In the end, major burn out occurs and what happens is that people will try to do what they can to meet these metrics then do the minimum on the job due to severe fatigue, etc.
I would personally like to slap the individual with the NYPD who created this shit.

Hey SCC the annual First Responders Bowl football game is this Sunday. The CPD Enforcers vs. CFD Blaze play Sunday at 3pm at St Laurence HS 77/Central in Burbank. The games the first three years all came down to the last minute.

Can't do it. Even with an Anon Website and low visibility video camera....they'd be able to figure out which beat car it was recorded in.

I will disagree with you with on this somewhat point and I go all the way back to the days of James Conlisk and James Roshford. Politicians and the "Reverends" had a lot of influence on who were District Commanders and some top "figurehead" positions back in those days. But, usually the day to day nuts and bolts operations of the Department were handled by very competent career people. There were some dumb "figurehead exempts" but they knew to keep their mouths shut and let their people do the work and there were real dumb exempts who got in the way of the "real police". It was never perfect, but if you were in a spot with “Good Boss” no matter where it was the job was good.
What happened in the Jody Weis and even worse in the McNumbnuts era is we have been taken over by from the Top-Down-Micromanagers.
The individual patrol watches don't need Captains; they can be "managed" by a D.S.S. not a Watch Commander because all those decisions are made for them at Headquarters. Even the "Executive Officer" is only there as an Auditor or to see that McNumbnut’s McNumbers are kept in order. There is no more real leading and mentoring of the troops any more, just accounting by numbers people. Even now he and Rahm are trying to destroy the memory of what this great Department was like and what it did for the citizens. What do Rahm the New Yorker care?

019 is short handed, everyone down on paper at 4am.
The majority of cars in 019 on mid nights has been actively avoiding work for years riding out paper jobs for two hours. If the sgts aren't going to supervise then they should take the jobs themselves. I remember hearing one car refuse to take a job at a cat stop and say why do they have special employment. No first watch sgt got on the air while the dispatcher and car argued about it for at least two minutes

Years back everything came from the 11th ward , the 11th ward aldermen, judges, etc You thought it was legit then. Certain aldermen ran everything.

Any boss that vents his anger or tells the truth will get dumped or worse.
Then what? If dumped you are no longer in a position to help the people around you. Your replacement will have orders that will make it worse for your people.
There are worse things than getting dumped. Take for example the case in the NYPD whisleblower Officer Adrian Schoolcraft who was forcibly removed from his home by NYPD brass and held in a pshyco ward for almost a week. Schoolcraft is suing and may make millions and he may take the money on the condition that he keeps his mouth shut.
