Busy Thursday
- A 32-year-old woman was shot near a South Side elementary school this afternoon while with her two children, including a baby she was carrying, but there were no reports of students or staff being injured.
Paramedics were sent to the 1600 block of East 93rd Street around 3:30 p.m., on the same block as the Amelia Earhart Elementary School, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.
Langford said the victim is a woman who was shot in the chest and sent to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.
The woman was carrying a baby when she was shot, but the child was not harmed, a source said. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, with the bullet travelling through her body.
- A man was shot to death in the Marquette Park neighborhood and at least three others were wounded between 10 p.m. and midnight, police said.
The lone homicide of the evening happened about 10:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Francisco Avenue. Police discovered the man there, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
About the same time, a 22-year-old was shot in the 1200 block of West 73rd Place in Englewood and is in good condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center.
Another person was shot moments later in the 1600 block of East 70th Street in the South Shore neighborhood. The 24-year-old man was grazed in the head and taken to Jackson Park Hospital.
About 12:05 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot 'multiple times' in the 6500 block of South Eberhart Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood.
Another man was found with a gunshot wound at 71st Street and Ashland Avenue in Englewood. Additional details about that shooting weren't immediately available.
And the weekend is going to warm up.

We had multiple houses having bbq in the backyards on my block. It was out of control. Neighbors were sharing food, beer and laughs. Our block is weird like that. More than 50 people participating in a bbq outside but not a single shot fired. No one raised their voice at one another, no garbage on the sidewalk and streets, no fighting or shooting, just a nice easy day in the backyard. We bogus.
Whew! Good thing there is no CCW.

I know, right. Last year my neighbors had a big block party with lots of beer, liquor, a bbq'd pig, big bonfire for that, a giant water slide and hundreds of neighbors acting silly till the cows came home.
Early the next morning, those same bad neighbors came out early and cleaned up the things they missed the night before.
So really, I don't get it. The only blood spilled was on a skinned knee. How hard is it to act civilized?

Biggest difference between good and not good neighborhoods is welfare. Those on it for life ruin it through their lazy parenting. Welfare is abused in bad hoods.
