FOP Grievance

Word on the street (and via e-mail) is that the FOP is looking into a class action grievance based on the new Ford Explorers.

It seems that the FTO Explorers don't have a cage, but still have the prisoner bench as the second seat.  The hard plastic one-piece unit is not meant to be sat in for a tour of duty (which is happening constantly as FTO's are riding with two PPO's). In fact, without a headrest to prevent whiplash injuries in the event of an accident, the entire construct falls under a Safety Grievance.

Anyone else hear about this one?

The couple we got in the district have the regular back seat so unless the ones coming out now are different I'm calling bull poop.

I thought ford cut tiny off on vehicle deals. No cash, no cars. Does this mean the REAL reason why there is foot patrol is because of no cars?

Wow what a surprise. The Fop filed this before when officers received pool cars without cages remember? Yeah but now everyone wants no cage because they don't lock anyone up anyway. Just a pain when they have to on signed complaints. Guess you have to wait for the wagon. Common sense if you are working the streets you should never operate a cageless vehicle, oh well.

I called FOP yesterday and was told Aguilar and Dougherty went to LA for the Hawks game. They said Aguilar would file the grievance when they returned. I was assured time would not be an issue. They were not sure if Aguilar would make it a class grievance.

Yea and by the time they get around to fighting it.. The vehicles will be gone. They only do and help the ones they like. All others get the usual city treatment. Funny.... and these FOP guys work for us? NOT! FOP is useless.

Half untrue. The backs are nice and comfy, but there are no head rests.

Ask frank M at FOP..he inspected one of the explorers. the seats are regular seats but its true no head rest ..he called a local district and a helpful lowly blue shirt drove one over.

Oh, It gets even better.
At the airport, the city ordered about 40 new explorers for Aviation police and operations. They ignored help from and rank&file and got the wrong vehicles! They have been sitting in a yard for weekss now, while the bosses try and figure out what to do.

They purchased the civilian model, so it gonna cost tens of thousands of dollars to fix them
On the same note, the CPD at the airports did listen to the guys and got the correct vehicles, which were put in service quickly.

If the aviation commisioner wasn't so busy dodgeing red light camera questions regarding here husband, maybe she could start being a leader and ask the right people instead of all the political hacks they have.
Where is the inspector general??

If the lack of a headrest is a safety hazard for coppers, it is a much worse safety hazard for prisoners who are completely unable to brace themselves. I can only imagine the well deserved law suits in all directions from that.

Solution. Just have them walk the entire tour in a box. Be careful what you grieve.

No self-respecting police officer should ever sit in the back seat that is a cage meant for the animals.

it's okay in cars without a cage.

Didn't see one with no cage and plastic seats. But the head-rest thing i did notice !!!Not safe at all !!! Also i'm 6'01", when i sit up front my knees touch the dashboard , can't move the seat further back coz they've made more room for the sit-bags in the cage, when we crash (and i do mean "when")i'm gonna be lookin at two pretty messed up legs !!!! Who picks these designs, coz they obviously never planned on having to drive them.

Safety grievances have no remedy that can force the City to do anything. City just says thanks, we lost, you are right, and go about their business. No arbitrator etc. can force anything out of a safety grievance.

Next topic...

What everybody needs to realize is that whenever the CITY violates the contract and AGUILAR does not pursue the grievance.........................it's because he allowed then to do it.

They called him......and he has the final say so to pursue or not! they have him in the bag........ this has happened time and time again....wake up people....

ONE GUY HAS THE FINAL SAY SO ON ALL OUR GREIVANCES..........

Move on to something else. Alot of them have regular rear seats.
Safety issue, what about the safety issue for a victim or a prisoner regarding the headrests. Worry about this shit, but pension and healthcare being reduced
Speaking of that what about the FOP complaining about the city losing the grieveance filed by the Lt's association regarding the 6th and 7th working day. They said it could have helped their case.
The ruling came down in March, think every Lt knew about it along with half the dept but the FOP is in the dark. Unbelieveable, they didnt know about another ruling when half the dept was talking about it and now they cry foul.

The grievance committee and the Board of Directors has the final say on which grievances go forward. If you don't like what Rich Aguilar says, attend a board meeting and appeal his decision and make your case to the Board.
