Gun Registry to End?

How much money wasted? How many man-hours burned?
  • Chicago's 3-year-old gun registry could go away as part of the concealed carry law state lawmakers recently passed, but few are publicly mourning the loss of a database once heralded as a key part of the city's gun control laws.

The registry, put in place by then-Mayor Richard Daley after the U.S. Supreme Court tossed out Chicago's 1982 handgun ban, required people who wanted guns in Chicago to buy city permits and register the weapons with police.

Gun rights advocates derided the registry and Chicago's municipal permit process as ineffective in curbing gun crime and an unfair burden for law-abiding gun owners.

The numbers indicate the registry wasn't effective. There are now about 8,650 Chicago firearms permit holders who have registered around 22,000 firearms, according to Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office. That's compared with the roughly 150,000 Chicago households the University of Chicago Crime Lab estimates currently have guns.

The idea was that the list would be available to police officers and firefighters so they would know if they were responding to a call for help at a home where there were firearms, Daley said at the time.
Won't somebody think of the First Responders!!???!!

What a crock of shit that was. No one thought of us for years, then suddenly we're a prop in Daley's gun-grabbing master plan.

So how many officers is this going to return to the street?

How are there 8,650 Chicago permit holders when there are 10,000+ police officers?

Does this figure not include police?

As everyone knows , anything from city hall with a "fee" attached to it is only about the "fee" and nothing more. Chicago Politicians would sell air if they could find a way to do it. Shortshanks found a way to sell "space" when he auctioned all the parking spots in Chicago. And the money grabs continue.........

Doesn't say anything about shotguns or rifle. So I can own any handgun but get jammed up cause I don't have a CFP for my pump shotty or non "assault" rifle, of course Rahm will push for that to happen and some officer will do it. This will be another SAF and NRA lawsuit

Speaking of money, did we ever get back the one million dollars that Blago gave (illegally) to the church/school that burned down on the east side several years ago? If not this would be a good case to give to Lisa Madigan to shore up her ability to make a case.

-------

Police don't need permits . . only "Gun Registrations" for their weapon(s) they own.

I only own 1 weapon
(yeah, right)

I am confused. It sounds like city gun registration will be phased out. This can't be. And the post says it's been in effect for 3 years? I had to register mine 30 years ago. I kow I am missing something. What does it all mean?

I would like to know how often, if ever Chicago 1st responders were informed the location they were headed to had a CFP holder at the scene, you know for your safety.
Sounds much like the smoke and mirrors of the Blue Light cameras. What have any of these initiatives done for you guys, I know what it has done to us taxpayers.
Please SCC, I would like to see some instances of how these initiatives have made a difference.

This stupid city 911 center tells every fireman and paramedic if the house they are responding to has a registered firearm. This same valuable information is never provided to police officers when they respond to a domestic or any other kind of call at a residence. This is another glaring example of how fucked up this shithole really is how little these politicians care about the safety and well being of their poloice officers. Bunch of two faced jagoffs.

The police don't get the info. I do know I have been on several jobs with CFD and their tickets all had the gun info in there. How CFD gets the printout and the police don't is awesome.

The gun regist. is a violation of the 2nd Admen. Everything the govt. does to violate rights and or tax good citizens is peddled as "Public Safety."

While both are in the same room, Fire Dispatch and Police Dispatch are as different as Hawaii and Alaska.

So why would a citizen pay $150 bucks to be identified as a city permit holder for the purpose of first responders being notified. (glad that didn't work out)

So if my house is on fire, does the first responder hold back cuz there's a gun in the house?

If I need the police there right away, do they wait for backup before engaging?

Sounds like a crappy deal for the permit holder if things played out as Daley stated.

So being a permit holder entitles me to have my guns confiscated when first responders know I own gun(s), but rest assure, I can reclaim them later. Is that how the ordinance is supposed to work?

The police aren't included in the registry because the General Orders of the dept. don't require it, but do "request it."
